His sharp eyes flicked between the two shinobi, clearly unimpressed by the polished words. He blew out a cloud of smoke, leaning back against the wall, crossing his arms.
"Hmph. I've heard your kind before, promising the world to get what they need," he grumbled. "I've given my years to Kirigakure. Bled for it, fought for it. And now you want me to go back? What makes you think I owe anyone anything more?"
Yomi held his ground. "You don't owe us anything," he said, voice steady. "But you still care about the village. If you didn't, you wouldn't have chosen to live on this cliff, where you can see every ship that sails past. You may have left, but you've never stopped watching over Kiri. That much is clear."
The officer's eyes narrowed, but there was a flicker of something - perhaps recognition, perhaps annoyance.
"You're persistent, I'll give you that," the officer finally muttered. He looked past Tsukuyomi to An, his gaze softening slightly at her. He sighed, shaking his head as if debating something within himself.
"Tell you what," he said gruffly. "You two have guts, climbing up here in this weather. I won't make any promises, but I'll hear you out. You can explain to me exactly what you need, and if I like what I hear... maybe I'll consider lending my expertise."
Tsukuyomi gave a slight nod, sensing that this was as much of a victory as they could expect for now. "Thank you," he said, his voice respectful yet firm. "We won't waste this opportunity."
The officer stepped aside, motioning for them to sit by the fire. As Tsukuyomi took a seat, he couldn't help but feel that this was just the beginning of their challenge. Convincing the officer to return would take more than words - it would require showing him that his legacy in Kirigakure wasn't finished yet.
The officer puffed on his pipe again, watching them closely, his expression unreadable. "So," he said slowly, "let's hear what you've got to say."
Tsukuyomi leaned forward slightly, his gaze fixed on the officer. The fire crackled between them, casting long shadows on the walls of the small, weathered home. He knew this moment would determine whether their mission succeeded or failed, and he couldn't afford to misstep.
"The truth is, Kirigakure is at a crossroads," Tsukuyomi said. "Our enemies are adapting - faster than we anticipated. The naval forces, once our village's strongest defense, are no longer as dominant as they used to be. Our current strategies are being outmaneuvered, and we need a fresh perspective. We need someone with your experience."
The officer, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed, stared at Tsukuyomi with a hard expression. He took a slow drag from his pipe, the embers glowing faintly, but said nothing, waiting for the shinobi to continue.
"You've fought in wars, led fleets, navigated the deadliest waters," the chunin pressed on. "You understand naval warfare in ways our current commanders don’t. What Kirigakure needs isn’t just new technology - it needs a strategist. Someone who can out think the enemy, who can see the patterns others miss. That someone is you."
The officer’s sharp eyes narrowed, and he exhaled a cloud of smoke, his voice low and bitter. "You speak of falling behind, but what makes you think my knowledge is enough to turn the tide? The world's changed since my time. New enemies, new weapons. What I know could be useless."
Tsukuyomi didn’t falter. "The fundamentals of naval warfare haven't changed. Tactics, timing, understanding the sea - those are timeless. Your experience gives you a perspective that no one else in the village has. You don't need to adapt to every new weapon to outsmart the enemy. You need to understand the core of battle, and that's exactly what you bring."
The officer’s gaze lingered on Yomi, his brow furrowing. The firelight flickered across his face, casting deep shadows under his eyes. His grip on the pipe tightened, but the silence that followed wasn't one of dismissal - it was consideration.
"You make it sound simple," the officer said, his voice quieter now, almost reflective. "But returning to that life... it's not just tactics and ships. It's blood, sacrifice. I left it behind for a reason."
Tsukuyomi nodded, acknowledging the weight of the man’s words. "War is never simple, and it always takes more than it gives. But what you left behind isn't gone. It's still a part of who you are, and the village is still a part of your legacy. You can shape its future. You have the chance to ensure that your knowledge - your sacrifices - aren't lost."
The officer's hardened expression softened, just slightly. His eyes shifted toward the window, where the storm continued to beat against the walls of the house. He sighed deeply, the sound of a man weighing the past against the present.
"I swore I'd never go back," he muttered, almost to himself. "But damn it, you make a good case."
He turned back to Tsukuyomi, his sharp gaze narrowing once more. "If I agree to return, it'll be on my terms. I don't answer to anyone. No one questions my methods, no one tries to tell me how to lead. If your village can't handle that, they can find someone else."
Tsukuyomi allowed the faintest hint of a smile to touch his lips. "Understood. I'll make sure the village knows that if they want your expertise, they'll respect it."
The officer grunted, pushing off the doorframe. He extinguished his pipe with a sharp tap against the table and reached for his weathered coat, which hung from a hook by the door.
"All right," he said gruffly, slipping the coat over his shoulders. "Let's get moving before I change my mind. Storm or no storm, I suppose you're eager to get back."
Tsukuyomi nodded, rising to his feet and adjusting his gear. They had done it. The first step was complete, but the hardest part still lay ahead - convincing the village to trust the officer once more.
As the officer reached for the door, he paused, looking back over his shoulder. "Don't think this is over, kid. Convincing me was the easy part. Now you've got to convince Kirigakure to trust an old war dog again."
Tsukuyomi met his gaze. "We're ready for that."
The officer huffed, pulling the door open and stepping out into the storm. The wind roared as Yomi followed, bracing himself for the treacherous descent down the cliff.
As they began the climb down, the future of Kirigakure awaited. This formidable ability wraps the user in a demon-inspired chakra shroud, similar to what a jinchuuriki is able to produce, but not born from the powers of a tailed beast. The manifestation of this shroud mirrors Yomi's inner personality by taking on the form of a monstrous three-headed dog made of black fire. He has honed his control over this potent shroud as he’s grown and trained, deploying it to amplify both his physical presence and combat prowess.
The Demon Aether fulfills dual roles in Tsukuyomi's arsenal. Firstly, it casts a pervasive aura of intimidation, seeding fear and uncertainty among his adversaries, with its impact varying based on the psychological resilience of those it envelops. Secondly, it significantly enhances his physical stamina and resilience, pushing his fighting capabilities well beyond typical human limits. This makes Tsukuyomi an indomitable force in prolonged encounters.
The consumption of chakra by the Demon Aether is intricately linked to Tsukuyomi's shinobi rank - higher ranks experience a more efficient chakra drain, rendering it an increasingly sustainable combat asset as Tsukuyomi's experience and mastery grow. Although the activation of this shroud in high-tension scenarios can induce a state of post-adrenaline exhaustion, judicious use allows Yomi to maintain better control over his chakra reserves. This careful management ensures that he avoids immediate exhaustion upon the deactivation of the shroud, preserving his strength for the full duration of battle. Igaku Chishiki | Medical KnowledgeDriven by a relentless pursuit of efficiency and lethality in combat, Tsukuyomi has dedicated himself to mastering human anatomy. This deep understanding allows him to identify critical strike points on an opponent’s body, enabling him to inflict maximum damage with minimal effort. His strategic approach to combat, combined with his anatomical knowledge, allows him to end confrontations swiftly and decisively, conserving energy and minimizing risk.
Beyond his offensive capabilities, Yomi's expertise extends to medical knowledge as well. He is adept at treating a wide range of injuries, from superficial cuts to critical wounds. His proficiency also encompasses the identification and initial management of various poisons and toxins. While he may not have the ability to fully cure these ailments, his skills are crucial in stabilizing the affected individuals. This capability ensures that he can keep them safe and maintain their condition until more definitive healing jutsu can be applied, either by him or other medically trained shinobi. Shinkeikei | Nervous SystemTsukuyomi has refined his chakra control to a meticulous art form, achieving a level of mastery that allows him to sculpt and manipulate chakra with extraordinary precision and potency. His ability to intricately control the flow and direction of chakra threads enables him to execute complex jutsu with remarkable efficiency, ensuring no chakra is wasted during the process. This skill is crucial in high-stakes scenarios where every bit of energy must be optimized.
Understanding the principle that sometimes less is more in the realm of jutsu, Yomi leverages his refined control to maximize the impact of smaller, more focused uses of chakra. This strategic approach allows him to conserve energy and maintain stamina, thereby enabling him to compete on equal footing with opponents who may possess larger chakra reserves. Through this efficient use of his chakra, Yomi ensures that he can endure prolonged battles, maintaining his effectiveness and threat level without the need for excessive power displays. This not only conserves his strength but also often catches stronger adversaries off guard.
