Shouki Clan Poisons

The Shouki Clan are living weapons, able to draw out a variety of poisons from their body with their chakra. This poison is typically expelled from their sweat glands in the form of a deep purple sludge, which they use to poison their weapons, or those of allies.

Instead of their rank being determined by ingredient rarity, the rank of Shouki clan poisons are determined by their cost in poison reserve charges, according to the table below. Shouki clan ninja have 50 poison reserve charges maximum.

Liquid Poisons
-3 Ranks | cost 10
-2 Ranks | cost 6
-1 Ranks | cost 4
+1 Ranks | cost 2

Gaseous Poisons
-2 Ranks | cost 9
-1 Ranks | cost 6
+1 Ranks | cost 4

Restrictions
All Shouki clan poisons are used in conjunction with clan techniques, which specify whether they use liquid (blood-borne) or gaseous (inhaled/skin contact) poisons. The exception is the Chi Doku, which is naturally present in every clan member's blood and saliva. If blood or saliva is used to poison a weapon, it behaves as Chi Doku with a 1 turn decay rate, and does not cost poison reserve charges to use.

The shadow clones of the Shouki clan may mimic clan jutsu without restriction, however these techniques will not carry poisonous effects. The difference between a poisonous or benign technique is only obvious if the victim is exposed to the false poison. Fake gas will have no smell, and fake blood-borne poisons will not cause any numbness.

NAME: Chi Doku [Blood Poison]

RANK: C [0]

DETECTION: [-1] NoticeableDOSAGE: [+2] Minor Dosage
EFFECTS: [+1] Moderate DetrimentONSET: [+1] 3~5 Turn Onset
USE: [+1] Blood-BorneTREATMENT: [-3] 5 Turn Recovery
COST: [+1] 2 Charges
DECAY: [-2] 2 Turn Decay

DESCRIPTION:
Chi Doku is a poison found within all Shouki clan shinobi who have survived the Dokuyoke ritual. While it is called a "blood” poison, it is present in their saliva and sweat as well. Several scratches or a single well-laid cut from an envenomed blade is enough for the Chi Doku to take effect. Immediately, it's victims will experience numbness spreading from the site of the wound. This feeling will persist for five rotations as the poison takes effect, reduced to three if the afflicted individual overexerts themselves. At full duration exposure, the poison will cause difficulty breathing alongside a general crippling numbness, draining one's strength and agility.

Antidotes to the Chi Doku are fairly common, but usually unnecessary. Most victims will recover within five rotations, or roughly a minute or two, even in the heat of battle.

NAME: Kusaru Iki [Rotting Breath]

RANK: C [0]

DETECTION: [-2] Immediately NoticeableDOSAGE: [+3] Any Exposure
EFFECTS: [-1] Minor DetrimentONSET: [+3] 2 Turn Onset
USE: [+2] InhaledTREATMENT: [-4] 2 Turn Recovery
COST: [+1] 4 Charges
DECAY: [-2] 2 Turn Decay

DESCRIPTION:
Through application of chakra to their sweat or saliva, a Shouki clan shinobi can create a poisonous cloud of purple gas. Kusaru Iki is used by channeling it through a learned clan ninjutsu.

A victim unfortunate enough to breathe in the gas becomes exposed quickly – after two rotations they are afflicted with a fit of coughing. Speaking phrases longer than a few words becomes prohibitively difficult, as they are unable to take deep, steady breaths. Defending themselves in a fight becomes more challenging as well, as every few seconds a sharp cough could cause them to lose their form. Perhaps the most troubling effect of Kusaru Iki is that it's victims are unable to hold their breath, and as such are vulnerable to more lethal inhaled poisons. Mercifully, recovery is fast – after two continuous rotations of fresh air, the coughing fit subsides entirely, regardless of how much gas was inhaled. If a victim only gains one rotation of fresh air before breathing in more poison, however, they remain afflicted.

Preventative antidotes to the Kusaru Iki are not impossible to create, but are largely less effective than simple gas masks.

NAME: Togo Doku (liquid) [Integrated Poison]

RANK: A [+2]

DETECTION: [-1] NoticeableDOSAGE: [-1] Moderate Dosage
EFFECTS: [+4] FatalONSET: [-1] 5~9 Turn Onset
USE: [+1] Blood-BorneTREATMENT: [+2] Professional Treatment
COST: [-1] 4 Charges
DECAY: [-1] 3 Turns

DESCRIPTION:
The Togo Doku is the Shouki Clan's signature poison, used by its operation squads to terrible effect during the Shinobi Wars. Shouki Chuunin can utilize the Togo Doku in its liquid or gaseous form, provided they channel an appropriate jutsu. The Togo Doku was developed so that both the liquid and gaseous variants of the poison will contribute to poisoning a target.

Full exposure requires the target to suffer many cuts and breaths of poison gas. Successful wounds will cause a mild, slowly spreading numbness, similar to the Chi Doku. The numbness will intensify over time until, after nine rotations at most, the victim falls unconscious. Strenuous exertion and extra applications of poison reduce the time it takes for the poison to spread to five rotations at minimum. A victim afflicted by Togo Doku may wake after some hours, but they require skilled medical treatment to do more than stumble about.

Because the Togo Doku was so widely used in battle during warfare, many researched it, attempting to synthesize an antidote. Few succeeded, making them rare, but not impossible to acquire. The Shouki Clan maintains that noone should have access to an antidote, and they occasionally attack and rob shinobi and minor clans discovered to be in possession of them. Such conflicts are a sore spot for the Shouki Clan's relations.

NAME: Togo Doku (gas) [Integrated Poison]

RANK: A [+2]

DETECTION: [-2] Immediately NoticeableDOSAGE: [-1] Moderate Dosage
EFFECTS: [+4] FatalONSET: [-1] 5~9 Turn Onset
USE: [+2] InhaledTREATMENT: [+2] Professional Treatment
COST: [-1] 6 Charges
DECAY: [-1] 3 Turns

DESCRIPTION:
As above. The gaseous variant of the Togo Doku has identical effects to the liquid variant, and both contribute towards poisoning a target.

NAME: Tenchi Doku [Heavenly Blood Poison]

RANK: S [+3]

DETECTION: [-2] Immediately NoticeableDOSAGE: [+2] Minor Dosage
EFFECTS: [+4] FatalONSET: [+1] 3~5 Turn Onset
USE: [+1] Blood-BorneTREATMENT: [+2] Professional Treatment
COST: [-2] 6 Charges
DECAY: [-3] 1 Turn Decay

DESCRIPTION:
The Tenchi Doku is the Shouki Clan's deadliest poison, available to experts of Jounin rank. It is an extremely volatile poison – when charged with chakra, it emits a faint cyan glow and evaporates rapidly, fizzing loudly like a lit fuse.

If its user lands a cut within this short timeframe, however, their victim is doomed. The effects of the Tenchi Doku follow a similar pattern to the more basic Chi Doku. First, the afflicted area is plagued by a spreading numbness - but within as few as three rotations, the poison bites and paralyzes the victim, starting with the parts of the body closest to the wound. At five rotations, the victim becomes totally paralyzed, and falls into a coma. If they do not receive careful treatment within the next few hours, death is likely.

Not even the Shouki Clan maintains complete antidotes to the Tenchi Doku, carefully guarding it's most deadly weapon. That does not mean it is incurable – many medicines are able to save its victims from death. It does mean, however, that there are few measures one can take to protect themselves until the poison begins to spread.

NAME: Tenkusaru Shouki [Heavenly Rotting Miasma]

RANK: S [+3]

DETECTION: [-2] Immediately NoticeableDOSAGE: [-1] Moderate Dosage
EFFECTS: [+2] Major DetrimentONSET: [+1] 3~5 Turn Onset
USE: [+5] Skin ExposureTREATMENT: [+2] Professional Treatment
COST: [-2] 9 Charges
DECAY: [-2] 2 Turn Decay

DESCRIPTION:
While not its deadliest poison, the Tenkusaru Shouki is perhaps the clan's most unpleasant. The clouds of purple gas created with this technique are volatile, dissipating with a distinctive fizz, like the sound rain makes when falling into a campfire. Merely touching the fog is rumored to drain one's very life force. Those fully afflicted become sluggish and lethargic, their reflexes and even their wit slowed to a crawl. Fortunately, the Tenkusaru Shouki requires five full rotations to take effect – two submerged within the gas to become exposed, and a further three for symptoms to emerge. The gas itself causes peculiar sensations on skin contact, a mix of prickling, icy burns, pins and needles. After several instances of exposure to the gas, fatigue begins to build within the victim. At three rotations, this fatigue becomes debilitating, and the symptoms of the poison only get worse over time, reaching a peak at five rotations, wherein the victim can scarcely fight a heated battle at all.

Like their other high rank poisons, the Shouki Clan do not produce preventative antidotes for the Tenkusaru Shouki. With some time, however, a reasonably skilled medic can cure it's effects. Failing that, a victim will remain bedridden for a week or more before they are able to regain their previous vigor.
