Within its territories were the foothills of great mountains that stretched to the north into other lands. While it sometimes did limit development, the little valleys they formed helped rainwater pool in predictable areas that helped farmers to build great irrigation systems.

Sometimes people preferred to live on the hills for security and only came down to farm. The Kimura’s were one such family, and they lived on a particularly treacherous hill with a winding path of pebbles overgrown with root and weed. In the distance the shadow of an old two story home loomed atop the hill and the smell of baked pastry filled the air.

Tax collection was the name of the game today. Not a job that Chitoku was proud to take, but one that would keep Ayane and himself fed for another day. They weren’t alone though, a different mercenary had been hired and they were patchworked together into a team. It wasn’t something Chitoku was unused to, although he was always weary in dealing with new faces because of past experiences.

"Didn’t catch your name,” Chitoku said to break the silence of the trek as he looked the dark haired woman over with one of his arm-eyes. "I'm Chitoku. Ayane and I usually work together, but I’ve not seen you around before. New to the area?”

DESCRIPTION:
The office of the Diamyo in the Land of Vegetables often struggles to collect taxes from the rural inhabitants throughout the country. They are outsourcing shinobi to visit some particularly hostile homes that their officials haven’t been able to collect from. The mission is to attempt to negotiate for pay or to seize property if they refuse. Past attempts have led to violent altercations, although they have never turned lethal. The government would like to keep it that way, so don’t kill anyone.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Chōmoku
From a young age Chitoku was implanted with preserved eyes of deceased clansmen all over his body. Coverage includes both his arms (5 on each arm), torso (9 eyes), and back (7 eyes) effectively granting him a 360 degree field of vision when his chest is uncovered and a plethora of eyes to use as visual triggers for certain genjutsu. When all but his arms are covered there are small pockets of the field which only fall into his peripheral vision.

This gift comes at a price, as he is more susceptible to seeing visual triggers himself or having the soft tissues of the eye damaged. In case of being blinded, covered eyes can be uncovered to provide sight as well, although the more eyes that are blinded or damaged the less coverage he has with line of sight.

Homicidal Medicine
Versed in traditional medicine including surgery, Chitoku can provide conventional first aid treatments to the wounded and practice medicine in general. Knowledge of the human body also grant him insights on vulnerable parts of anatomy and a deeper understanding of pain as well.

Exceptional Chakra Control
Compared to most shinobi of his grade, Chitoku's chakra control is exceptional. He is able to conserve a good deal of energy with his jutsu usage which allows him in turn to use more jutsu over time. His control is precise enough to channel complicated illusions and medical chakra as well.

Yakitsu was not pleased at all by this expansion of company that had been thrust on her. However, if she wanted to scope out the area and pretend to be the criminal that had taken to terrorizing this nation at large to get recruited into that bastard cult then she definitely needed more information on the state of affairs here. Ergo, she had taken the job to collect taxes as a free-lance wandering nin, which was never completely off the mark for the young woman. She hadn't been expecting company though, not in this case at the very least. The trek to the property of the Kimura family had mostly seen the young viper staying silent as she glanced around with her Crimson eyes, or not so subtly, and rather quietly observed her companions. Both having odd quirks of their own that made her question just what was up with both of them. The other freak of nature addressed her first though as they got close, not bothering to turn as he established eye contact from the back of his arm. If she weren't also a repulsive creature, unnatural to this world then she likely would have gagged at the concept of eyes rolling around in flesh other then the face. "Tateyama. I am new here though, yesss. I wasss working mossstly within Tori no Kuni, but found work drying to a ssscarcity recently. Decided to move over at the rumor that there may have been a bad actor among the populace here. Came in sssearch of that bounty," That was about as much as Yaki would willingly say, and part of that was to see if they knew anything. The dry tone of voice leaving no room for her to sound interested in a lot of conversation herself, regardless of the improper gait and slur to her speech. While not a struggle it sounded wrong, like something that wasn't human was speaking, while sounding distinctly like a simply rude, cold young woman. Ayane's eyes sparkled with anticipation as Chitoku introduced her. She was excited to meet another female wanin. Most of her friends these days were guys and she was looking forward to a little girl talk. Maybe if they really hit it off they could go shopping… Or maybe not. Ayane’s eyes went wide as the uncanny voice slithered from the girl’s lips. It reminded her of the ventriloquism jutsu she sometimes used on her puppets to make them seem more real.

Ayane gulped nervously and tried to pull herself together. She’d seen weirder things. None came to mind at the moment but she was sure she had. "That’s a beautiful name, Tateyama the bounty hunter! Well, if you spot your mark let us know so we can make ourselves scarce. I’d hate to get in the way.”

Ayane's words hung in the air, and she immediately realized how cowardly and weak they sounded. Although not entirely inaccurate, she decided it would be more polite to offer their assistance. Clearing her throat, she continued, "Unless, of course, you would like our help- for a modest percentage of the take, obviously. What do you know about this bad person? Perhaps we've crossed paths with them before."

[attr="class","butt-box2"]Two of the eyes on Chitoku’s side remained fixed on the stranger, Tateyama. A close inspection of them would reveal that when one of these eyes blinked, the other remained widely open, like two sentries relieving each other from watch. Something about their manner of speaking was off-putting to him. One might expect such a strange creature as himself to be more comfortable with the abnormal, but selfishness and paranoia accompanied him like old friends.

He chose to let Ayane do the talking, though he was curious about the bounty as well. The Dodomeki doubted this person was in the spirit to share with them, most hunters that weren’t already in a group tended to be loaners so they could keep the wealth for themselves.

Growing nearer to the two story home on the hill, its features became more discernible. Chitoku stopped the party near some brush and foliage to get a better look at the home without standing completely in the open.

Square in shape with two shogi doors that were closed, one overgrown with vines and blocked by a wagon filled with farming implements. The wood of the home was beginning to warp, giving it a sense of imbalance. A thatch roof top split in the center above the two doors where the wall continued up and broke for a large window, where a spider web dressed the corner.

To either side of the house were rows of sprouted potato plants that seemed at odds with weeds that invaded the soil around them.

There were no signs of life, other than a rocking chair near the front entrance that was still creaking in motion. That and that pie smell.
