They boarded their ship from Gengetsu in the evening as the sun was setting over the horizon casting a golden glow over the world. The rays would be snuffed with time and both Mizuki and Toru would be left in the purple glow of darkness that would inevitably become pitch black as they sailed from the Western half of their nation towards the south where their goal lay unknowingly waiting for them.

Toru's mind was roaming elsewhere, and there was a relaxed feeling about the Mizukage that was seldom felt. The general demeanor as he spoke to the Captain before moving towards the front of the ship to feel wind and sea spray against his face as they moved into what seemed like the void. Illuminated gently by a moon that beckoned them on their way.

The purple hues of morning would begin to return to the world when they were nearing their destination, their voyage having been slow as to not alert anyone nearby of their presence. Toru moved back towards the helm to get a better view from higher-up, they were looking for a pirate hideout, something that would be difficult to uncover...

But he had Mizuki onboard, he glanced towards his partner for the mission and gestured loosely.

"If you could infiltrate through the water and investigate the area, that would be best." Toru could also jump in and breathe underwater, but it was... a lot less subtle.

[Hōzuki Mizuki]

Mizuki stood near the side of the ship, watching the dark waves ripple as the vessel cut through the water, their sharp eyes scanning the horizon while Toru conversed with the captain. The night had blanketed the sea in a deep purple, but Mizuki found comfort in the cool darkness, their senses keen as they prepared mentally for the task ahead. The soft breeze carried the scent of saltwater, and the gentle sway of the ship was almost hypnotic, but they knew the calm would not last.

As Toru moved to the front of the ship, seemingly at ease, Mizuki glanced at him out of the corner of their eye. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, there was an undeniable tension that accompanied every mission—especially one with a target as dangerous as this pirate captain. Trained like a shinobi, the captain was no ordinary adversary, and the thought of facing a foe like that quickened Mizuki’s pulse in anticipation.

When the purple hues of morning began to peek over the horizon, signaling their proximity to the target, Mizuki took a deep breath, centering themselves. The voyage had been quiet and uneventful, but now, as they neared the pirate hideout, the real work was about to begin.

Hearing Toru’s voice cut through the gentle sounds of the sea, Mizuki turned to meet his gaze, acknowledging his loose gesture and request with a slight nod. "Yeah, I can take care of it,” they replied, their voice calm and steady. Toru’s confidence in their abilities wasn’t lost on Mizuki, and they appreciated the silent trust placed in them.

Rather than have their main body go, a watery form would almost climb from Mizuki’s body before forming into a proper clone on the edge of the ship. Without much fanfare the clone would jump into the water below and merge with the water, practically becoming invisible as it scouted the beach of the island.

Watching the ripples disappear, Mizuki turned back to Toru with curious look. "So, do you have a plan, Stone Face-san, or are we just winging it?" they addressed him casually, their tone a blend of amusement and genuine curiosity, wondering if the Mizukage had something up his sleeve or if they were playing things by ear.

The clone, meanwhile, moved swiftly through the water, its form adapting to the currents as it scanned the seabed and crept toward the beach, ready to uncover the hidden pirate hideout.

NAME: Mizufūsen Bunshin [Water Balloon Clone]

DESCRIPTION:
A clone that is created by using the Hydrification Hijutsu of the Hozuki to alter the user's own cells into water. The clones can be as simple in function as a vaguely human shaped bubble for use in the Body Replacement Technique or a completely mobile and sentient clone capable of utilizing any jutsu in the users repertoire. the clones themselves have the ability to travel far from the user and are able to communicate with the original.

Moreover, since the clone has the ability to merge with any existing water source, it is also great for reconnaissance missions. By directly touching the clone with their hand, the user can either absorb the clone back into their body or change the shape of the clone.

Unlike other clone techniques, the Water Balloon Clone doesn't disappear when hit and takes the damage to a certain degree. This makes it the perfect clone technique that makes it nearly impossible to see through. However, the clones are inhibited by the actions of the user, so if they are preoccupied with other tasks the clones will not be able to act to their full potential.

Toru was unphased by the appearance of a clone that would move straight into the water and disappear in the still dark waters of the morning.

It was still so early, there was a good chance that most of the pirates would be asleep, aside from the early morning lookout. Though, they would not see the Hozuki's clone approach, in fact with their heavy eyelids they would miss the strange blob that would occasionally rise up along with the waves near the strand. But, indeed, the clone would find a fairly small pirate ship docked, and approximately ten different pirates all laid out on a beach. Though there seemed to be an entrance to a cove nearby that indicated that there could be more pirates - and with keen senses that would in fact be confirmed.

"My plan?" The Mizukage echoed, watching the distant shoreline.

"We stick by each other, take the crew on one by one until they are felled... I have a feeling the captain will stay away until the end, until there are no more options."

Which meant that the two of them would be more tired by the time they took on the Captain, but Toru was confident that if they just fed off of each other's energy they would succeed well enough.

[Hōzuki Mizuki]

Mizuki watched the shoreline while awaiting the return of their clone, Toru’s plan echoing in their mind. They gave a small nod, a smirk tugging at the corner of their lips. "Sounds like as good a plan as any,” they remarked, adding with playful confidence, "Besides, with the Mizukage here, there’s no way things go south, right?”

Soon enough, the water rippled as Mizuki’s clone returned, slipping silently back onto the ship. It moved effortlessly, rejoining Mizuki before confirming the intel. "Ten on the beach,” the clone reported in a hushed tone. "There are more inside the cove, but nothing we can’t handle.”

The tension in their muscles gave way to excitement as they flexed their fingers, cracking their knuckles with a quiet resolve. "I’ll go in first then. Once the mist is up, we can start picking them off.”

With a final nod to Toru, Mizuki leapt gracefully from the ship, their form seamlessly melding with the water beneath them, becoming nearly invisible as they skimmed toward the beach. Moving with the fluidity of the tide itself, they approached the cove unnoticed. Their sharp eyes caught sight of the pirates sprawled across the sand, oblivious to the danger creeping closer.

As Mizuki reached the shore, they silently slipped onto the sand, every movement calculated and precise. ‘Time to get to work,’ they thought, forming a quick sequence of hand seals. A thick mist rolled over the beach, blanketing the area in an eerie shroud. For a shinobi, the jutsu would be recognizable and foreboding, but to these common thugs, it might pass as nothing more than a heavy morning fog.

Mizuki waited patiently for Toru to catch up before making their decisive move. While the pirates remained oblivious, Mizuki would take advantage of the stillness. They’d swiftly move onto the beach under the cover of the Hidden Mist Technique and point their finger gun at bodies lying on the beach. Two water bullets would shoot from their fingers, sending two of the pirates to an eternal slumber. The thud of their bullets would be what alerted the pirates of the shinobi’s presence, but Mizuki unfortunately didn’t have many tools to handle 10 sleeping pirates at once. Luckily Toru had their back, and they were basically a weapon of mass destruction.

The user mimics a fire gun with his hand and, through the Hydrification Technique, compresses a drop of water in their index finger, firing it with tremendous force and speed similar to a gunshot. The technique is able to easily pierce through solid wood and stone but it has trouble actually destroying it. The average range being about 20 meters.

"Hopefully not."

Toru was a shinobi like any other, not infallible and despite his ability to fight there was always the chance that something could go wrong. Still he had the confidence that with another Kirigakure shinobi nearby, those chances lessened to nothing. An irony almost, that he would put so much faith into Mizuki when Mizuki was putting all of their faith into him.

Toru gave a small nod when Mizuki expressed that they would be bringing in the signature mist so the Mizukage would wait on the ship as Mizuki slipped away. The mist would arrive soon enough leaving Toru with only his nose to find who he was looking for. Indeed the salt of the sea made it a touch more difficult but he found Mizuki's watery trail in time and arrived on the shore with only slightly dampened sandal soles.

The Mizukage retrieved his sword then, of a peach hue as silent as stagnant air he would begin to move, hearing thuds and rushing air up ahead, the pirates stood no chance. But many were already waking up and shouting.

"We're under attack!" Someone shouted in the distance, clearly one of the look outs having reacted a little too late.

Panic ensued just as Toru arrived at Mizuki's side with his sword drawn and it did not take much longer for the shore pirates to find them in the thick mist.

As one approached Toru performed five hand seals, creating a grapple hook that whipped at the pirates body, Toru flinging them in a circular motion towards Mizuki for Mizuki to take care of.

NAME: Umi no Muchi Kōraru no Odori [Dance of the Sea Whip Coral]

DESCRIPTION:
Toru extends his hand and fire off chains of coral one after the other, that create a literal chain with the end acting as a grappling hook [max 15 meters]. Once the hook of the coral grabs onto its intended object or if it grabs onto its target - as the coral can be manipulated - it will then be grabbed by Toru at the end and yanked to fling the target towards himself.

Mizuki remained focused as the panic spread through the camp, the shouts of the pirates confirming that they had the upper hand in the current moment. With the mist enveloping the beach, they moved like a shadow, invisible to the scrambling enemies. Toru’s footsteps were absolutely silent as always, but just sensing their presence beside them brought a sense of calm and assurance; it was comforting to have the Mizukage at their side during a mission like this. Trust flowed both ways between them, and Mizuki knew they could push forward without hesitation and Toru would have their back.

Mizuki darted forward, weaving between the remaining pirates with fluid grace, the thrill of battle surging through them. The mist clung to them like a second skin, allowing them to remain hidden as moved between two pirates that were still waking up. With a hand on their sword, they had initially planned to cut them down.

As Toru flung a pirate in their direction, however, Mizuki wasted no time switched to utilizing their water spike technique. Almost reflexively, sharp spikes of water shot out from their body in all directions, skewering two of the pirates next to them as well as the pirate that Toru had flung in their direction. Their blood mixed with Mizuki’s liquid form as the breath left their bodies for the last time.

The presence of Toru, calm and deadly as ever, made it easier to focus, to remain sharp. The two of them worked in perfect harmony, cutting through the pirates like a well-rehearsed dance. As the water spikes receded back into Mizuki’s body, one of the enemies came running at them with a cutlass. Rather than take the attack with their hijutsu, Mizuki would utilize the quick rotation technique to move out of the way at the last second before tripping the enemy so they would fall to the ground in front of Toru.

Now that the pirates were finally starting to get up and attack them, Mizuki would finally pull out their sword. They had a bit of chakra at the beginning of this attack; but given the shinobi training of the captain, it was probably better to conserve their energy. Otherwise they'd have to wholly rely on Toru when they got to the head honcho.

The user can extend and retract these spikes at their will, as long as they have the water to do so.

DESCRIPTION:
Utilizing chakra in the feet, ankles and legs specifically. It is a small amount of energy, but used precisely on reflexes and timing. This technique is gauged this way. When timed, the user can twist themselves abruptly out of the way of an attack. Like a speedy side-step, but a rotation of one's body to the side. A spin-move. This is only attacks in an immediate vicinity(three meters) anything else is too big an attack. Usually Taijutsu, but sometimes this technique is effective against close-range ninjutsu.

The pirate met a rather grizzly end with several water spikes that came right out of Mizuki impaling two sleeping bodies and the man flying towards him. That put them down easily to about four that were left on the beach, two of which had been the lookout and were scrambling through the mist towards their assailants.

Toru let the grappling hook fall apart, coral to be used at a later date if it came to it as one of the pirates from lookout came barreling towards him. It was not that Toru could not respond, in fact, he very much could have. But he wanted to allow the cutlass to make contact, to try and cut into him but instead the blade bounced off of him, the pirate tried again, comically... Over and over again against Toru's impenetrable defense and finally Toru turned towards the man and caught the blade firmly in his palm. There was a sense of calm on Toru's features, but panic on the pirates features.

"DEMON!"

Toru blinked once or twice, and then smirked - an unusual thing of amusement - before he quickly cut down the pirate with his sword hand.

Perhaps Mizuki's playful and curious personality was rubbing off on him in the moment.

Who are you, and what have you done to my Toru-chan? The beast within boomed just as playfully.

[Hōzuki Mizuki]

As the chaos of the battlefield unfolded, Mizuki utilized their sensory capabilities to lock onto one of the final three assailants. The pirate was more alert than the others, his hand gripping a rusty cutlass as he squinted through the mist, trying to pinpoint his attacker. But Mizuki had no intention of giving him that luxury. With a fluid motion, they unsheathed their sword, the blade gleaming momentarily in the misty haze.

The pirate caught a glimpse of the movement too late. Mizuki dashed forward, their footsteps were deft and nearly silent as they closed the distance between them. The pirate swung his cutlass wildly, but Mizuki anticipated the clumsy attack, sidestepping with ease.

With a graceful twist of their wrist, Mizuki parried the pirate’s blade, the clash of metal ringing out sharply in the muffled atmosphere of the mist. Before the man could even react, Mizuki spun low, sweeping his legs out from under him and sending him crashing to the sand.

In one swift, precise motion, Mizuki brought the sword down through the man’s chest. With a flick of their wrist, the blade pierced the pirate’s heart, and was back out ready to defend Mizuki from either of the remaining pirates. As the man’s body went limp, Mizuki withdrew the sword, the blood dripping from the edge quickly washed away by the mist around them.
"If this is what the crew is like,” Mizuki said as they almost let out a laugh, "I feel like whatever this is was a bad strategy.”

They glanced over at Toru, who had just dispatched another pirate with ease. The two shinobi moved in sync, cutting down the remnants of the pirate crew like reapers in the fog. There were only two pirates remaining, and once they were dealt with, they'd be able to venture into the cove where any remaining pirates would be waiting for them.

Toru lifted his head towards the sky and sniffed getting an exact location for where the pirates were, he took off in the direction of one of them. This pirate was younger and had curled himself into a corner looking particularly fearful of what was to come, he had no fight left in him.

"P-Please..." He stuttered out and the Mizukage had halted in his path standing over the younger. "Please don't.. I'll I won't do it again."

"Do what again?" Toru asked, listening still for the sounds in the fog of Mizuki taking out the final opponent - or not.

"Piracy, crime... Any of it!"

"And how would I know that you are being honest? A pirate is seldom honest."

"I-"

Toru flicked his hand, a cage of coral appeared around the young man and he let out a scream.

"I could kill you, right now."

"NO!"

"Swear to me then, as the Mizukage and Daimyo." A piece of coral inched so close that it cut into the pirate, making him bleed. "Swear on your blood."

"I swear! I swear I will never!"

The coral disappeared in a snap and Toru motioned with his head - a rare mercy.

"Get out of here, and if I ever see you again doing anything like this then... You know what happens. Find honest work and if you are so keen to fight, join the military."

It didn't take much after that for the young pirate to disappear into the fog and well out of the way. Toru would appear at Mizuki's side not long after a hand in his pocket.

"Ready for the cove?"

Mizuki patiently watched from the mist, arms crossed as Toru stood over the trembling young pirate. The two of them were too far away to make out with Mizuki’s eyes, but a combination of their sensory and hearing helped paint the picture of what was happening. They tilted their head slightly, observing the whole exchange with mild amusement. As the pirate swore his oath and darted off into the fog, Mizuki strolled over, a bemused grin already forming.

As Toru approached, Mizuki raised an eyebrow, watching the last pirate sprint away down the beach and far from the cove where the rest of the pirates were hiding. A teasing smirk spread across their face. "Letting him go, huh? I didn’t know you had such a soft spot, Stone Face-san," Mizuki quipped, playfully nudging Toru's arm.

Their eyes sparkled with amusement, clearly enjoying the rare opportunity to poke fun at Toru. While the Mizukage had grown a little softer, Mizuki didn’t mind the idea of showing mercy, sometimes there was wiggle room in missions like this. Honestly they could probably consider it a success as long as they captured or killed the Captain, since they had shinobi training..

"Yeah, I'm ready, let’s head in," Mizuki added, a mischievous grin still firmly in place as they gestured toward the entrance of the cove. Without waiting for a response, they casually strolled forward, their steps light but confident. As they approached the dark maw of the cove, the playful demeanor faded slightly, replaced with a focused, expression.

Their senses sharpened, every movement, every sound heightened as the mist swirled around them. Mizuki's gaze scanned the mist as their chakra sensory reached out and pinpointed the locations of the remaining pirates as well as the Captain who was deeper in.

"In certain situations," Toru responded with a shrug, trying to appear nonchalant about it. The truth was that Toru was not often one to let others get away, he was not a merciful young man when it came to the safety of his nation. But in this case, he could see a genuine fear in the pirates eyes, a promise that would cost him his life in another situation. He would let him walk away, just this once. This was the kind of mercy policy that Toru followed.

As Mizuki nudged him, they would notice the iron clad skin that Toru had. The Mizukage's body had absolutely no give and so he hardly moved at the nudge.

Toru nodded and started to move towards the cove, his feet moving over the water until they hit the rocks and cliff sides of the cove that they could enter. The Mizukage did not speak, just continued to move forward into the darkness, moving towards flickering lights in the distance and the scents of those that were inside.

"He won't come until the end," Toru whispered to Mizuki, his voice echoing gently across the walls nearby, it didn't seem to carry all the way to the pirates as there was no reaction - yet.

Mizuki’s playful demeanor shifted as they stepped into the cove alongside Toru, their gaze now sharp and focused. They gave a small chuckle at Toru’s response, though it was quieter than before. "Nothing wrong with a little mercy every now and then,” they murmured. Their tone held no malice—just a hint of amusement at their friend’s rare moment of mercy.

As their feet left the water and met the rocky surface, Mizuki moved in sync with Toru, eyes flickering between the dark shapes of the cove and the faint flickering lights ahead. Their senses were on high alert, muscles coiled and ready for whatever lay inside. Even the scent of saltwater was tinged with something darker, more dangerous—the unmistakable tension that always hung in the air before a fight.

As Mizuki stepped deeper into the cove alongside Toru, their usual playful grin gave way to a slight frown of confusion. "He’ll want us tired, worn down after dealing with his lackeys,” Mizuki repeated softly, then added with a shake of their head, "But… these guys are barely a warm-up. If this is his plan, it’s a pretty bad one.”

They glanced over at Toru, their brow furrowed as they tried to piece together the captain’s strategy. "I mean, sure, if he was expecting weaker shinobi, maybe. But we’re hardly going to break a sweat with this lot. Feels like the guy’s overestimating his crew or underestimating the opposition he was going to receive.”

The mist around them thickened, the flickering lights ahead casting long, distorted shadows of pirates who clearly weren’t prepared for what was coming. Mizuki’s confusion didn’t dull their readiness, though. If the captain had shinobi training, he might’ve had plans in place for a more typical B-rank team—one that wasn’t led by two highly capable Kirigakure shinobi.

"I guess there’s not too much sense in worrying about it, just keep an eye out for traps, I guess,” Mizuki added, their voice quiet but firm.

With one final glance at Toru, they finally moved deep enough into the cove that they should start meeting the handful of lackeys that were inside. Mizuki was ready to make quick work of the pirates ahead, although they were still puzzled by the captain’s general plan unless the cave was lined with booby traps.

Toru rubbed at the back of his neck briefly at Mizuki spoke to him, it was true that they were likely not going to break a sweat. Though Toru might consider pretending at breaking a sweat to give the pirates some ego boost before taking them out. It was hard to decide what he was going to do, strike ego or fear into their hearts before their untimely demise. The Mizukage stretched his muscles out as they moved forward, a part of him awaiting ambush though it had not yet come. He felt particularly at ease around Mizuki in the moment, for one reason or another... Though he had also been feeling more at ease in general in recent weeks.

Toru allowed Mizuki to head in first towards the huddled mass of lackey pirates.

"Use caution." Was all he said as they went ahead, there was no telling what the cove held...

The cove was mostly water in truth, the occasional swell of sea coming in and out. A damp scent of moss, and iron lingered in the the fake mist that they had created and worked in.

Mizuki would not reach the huddled mass because from two sides the Hozuki would be flanked by not only pirates but pirates carrying spears to keep their distance to try and stab at them.

Toru would press himself off to the side lingering in the darkness as he started to get closer and closer to the huddled masses only to very quickly discover that these were just decoys, they weren't real people and frankly it was just their clothes. It was a second too late that the Mizukage caught the scent of someone flying at him overhead. A sword trying to impale him directly - Toru used the impact to roll backwards knocking the man and sword off of him as it failed to cut.

Now he was staring into the darkness into what appeared to be glowing eyes, this wasn't the Captain but this was no ordinary pirate either.

Mizuki moved swiftly, eyes sharp as they navigated the misty cove, their body in sync with the ebb and flow of the seawater around them. Hearing Toru’s quiet caution, they gave a quick nod, stepping further into the shadows ahead. As they neared the huddled mass of pirates, their senses flared—something felt off.

Without hesitation, Mizuki raised a hand in the typical shape of finger guns that they utilized for their water gun technique. A sharp jet of water shot out, slicing through one of the figures in the group of pirates, only to reveal that it wasn’t a person at all—just a pile of discarded clothes, cleverly arranged to deceive them. "Decoys? Really?" Mizuki muttered, a mix of annoyance and disbelief coloring their voice.

There were also two pirates approaching with spears, Mizuki knew that none of the lesser pirates were practiced shinobi at least from their intel, so they could easily partially liquify their body to avoid damage from the spear attacks.

Before they could process it further, their senses picked up on movement above at an incredibly quick speeds. They glanced up just in time to see the silhouette of the captain flying overhead, sword gleaming in the dim light as he dove towards Toru. Mizuki senses picked up the unmistakable intensity of chakra, their mind instinctively locking onto the captain as they prepared another water shot. The water gathered at their fingertips, primed for a lethal strike.

But Toru was directly in the way, fending off the blow from the captain. Mizuki gritted their teeth, unable to take the shot without risking hitting their partner. The gleam in their eyes flickered for a moment, frustration bubbling up as they lowered their hand slightly. "Tch, move, Stone Face-san" they called out.

They shifted their stance, and would immediately take the shot as soon as Toru reacted. The water bullet would be difficult to dodge at this distance for a normal person, but there was something off about the Captain. He was much faster than Mizuki had expected them to be. Mizuki was also preparing to liquify their body to avoid the spear attacks from behind them, utilizing their sensory to help predict when the attacks were coming.

This technique makes it impossible to receive damage from physical attacks. From a single hair, to the skin and muscles, everything can be liquefied and solidified at will. Be it to evade an enemy's attack during a short range battle, to infiltrate a structure, or to launch a surprise attack in a liquefied state, this technique boasts a high strategic value. Applying this technique, the user can also modify their body parts for suitable situations or even use the liquid as projectiles. In order to use this technique, the user must remain hydrated, lest the user not being able to use this or other Hozuki techniques.

The only way to contain a user of this technique is to lock them up in an airtight container so they cannot move about. When the user passes out, they turn into a jelly-like state. Since this technique turns the body into water, the Hōzuki are extremely vulnerable to Lightning Release techniques. Along with Scorch Release techniques.

The two pirates were a bit baffled by the fact that their spears just went into Mizuki and did not in fact hurt Mizuki - which was what they were expecting. Of course they had battled with lesser shinobi and won before, but this had not come across their radar before. Pulling the spears out they found to be quite wet, dripping with water and that was definitely strange. Still that didn't quite deter them, in fact as Mizuki pointed towards Toru's own enemy they tried to attack again. This time one went for a stab and the other swung the spear beneath Mizuki's feet in an attempt to knock them over completely and thus cause them to be doubly hurt with the other spear going in for a controlled stab.

Toru glanced over as the words rang through the cavern to move, he did so deftly but the announcement also insured that the glowing eyed man heard what was happening and was able to jump cleanly over the water bullet and head his landing straight for Toru.

"Pay attention to yourself!" Toru had taken notice that there were two around Mizuki trying to kill them, so it was best that Mizuki pay attention and protect themselves...

Toru would block the strike from overhead this time though he shook a bit from the vibrating impact. He twisted his foot across the ground causing the coral to come up from underground and bind his opponents leg down to the ground.
