[Suzuki Tsubasa]

Tsubasa had always thought the day she’d learn how to walk on a variety of strange surfaces would be with a full team, in front of her sensei. Instead, with everything going on in the background she’d gone out of her way to go to the library, wrote out a bunch of notes on how to do the technique, and started writing up her own thoughts and approaches in case none of that ended up working as intended. Badly drawn diagrams and all. It probably wasn’t nearly as helpful to others as she may have hoped but she still threw the offer out to those around her who may have wanted to learn. It was only polite after all.

Having done all she could, Tsubasa was already quietly at work on her own training. The girl had claimed a spot in one of the few training grounds that actually had a tree growing in it and set herself up. The notebook she so often carried was laid out on the ground in front of her as she sat beside the tree, one shoe on and one shoe off. Whether this was a sensible decision or not remained to be seen, but the studious teen couldn’t help but feel that learning with and without shoes would be important for some reason.

Even without the blessing of Himishi blood, those words swirl within her memories. Make earnest efforts, earn herself a place in the next chuunin exam. For her to live up to the expectations of her guiding light, she must first attempt to get the basics down.[break][break]

What better for a sparrow to learn than a technique that will allow her to climb high above and shed the shackles of gravity? Or at least, that was the very first thought that had crossed her mind whilst she'd been writing down a list of areas she was most certainly lacking in. After all, her inability to scale walls had been what inhibited her during one of her missions beyond the village.[break][break]

It isn't difficult in theory. Evenly coat the soles of one's feet in chakra, enough to grasp at any surface without slipping or repelling. But as she spies the tree in the distance, towering over her and boasting a fall that would hurt anyone that messed up on their ascent, she can't quite help but begin to question her decision.[break][break]

Beyond that, there seems to be someone else already present. A figure sat beneath the sprawling branches of this tree with their attention seemingly hooked on whatever they've placed on the ground. Perhaps, serving as a sign that she should take a rain check on this venture and simply head back for the day.

[Suzuki Tsubasa]

Despite the open offer Tsubasa hadn’t exactly heard back from anyone who wanted to learn with her, so she was pleasantly surprised when she saw a familiar face off in the distance. When she stood up, ready to start working on the technique finally, she noticed Suzume staring awkwardly her way and waved enthusiastically before calling her teammate over. "Heeeey! Suzume over here! We’ve got the tree all to ourselves!” Tsubasa pat the side of the tree beside her enthusiastically in an effort to entice the younger girl over, quite happy to have a friend willing to work with her on the technique.

Of course, while she waited for Suzume she kept glancing down at her notes and while she thought on what she could do. The technique was about control, something she was very good at when she put her mind to it, but it was also a pure ninjutsu, an area she had little experience with outside of the basics taught in the academy. This technique was also considered a basic by some but that didn’t exactly overcome her self-doubt about it. Tsubasa shook her head to clear it of such distracting thoughts, she didn’t need them stopping her now. There were plenty of people around who believed in her and her ability to learn so she just had to join them too. She just had to put one foot in front of the other, on a tree, with chakra.

It's not quite staring into the abyss, but her stare does cause that someone to look back. And who else should it be but Tsubasa, with an energy that doesn't quite seem to fit her usual demeanour. Perhaps, because she has to be the one to lead any interactions between the two.[break][break]

With the rather audible callout, there's no way for her to simply slip away and pretend she hadn't noticed. So like a bird caught within a glue trap, she relents and flits over to the one who'd laid it.[break][break]

Her greeting is but a nod, easily missed if Tsubasa focuses solely on her notes. From the brief glance she gets of it, the older genin has spent quite a bit of time putting them together. Concepts and methods of approach all scribbled down onto these few sheets of paper... They aren't exactly wrong in the idea they are attempting to explain, but none of them quite resonate with the personal understanding she has of the technique.[break][break]

Still, she watches her teammate without the slightest deviation to her expressions, hesitant to add any additional noise to the already overflowing load of information. If things end up working for Tsubasa, then all is well. But if not, she might just witness a bit of a fall.

[Suzuki Tsubasa]

Considering all the planning she’d put into attempting to be able to train with everyone it was little wonder that Tsubasa was mentally prepared to interact with Suzume. The real question was if the younger girl had actually received her invitation or not. Tsubasa figured she had, she was here after all, so she happily pointed to her notes and gave a light smile when the younger girl nodded her way.

"I wasn’t sure if anyone else was coming, no one replied to my message so I was all ready to just practice on my own.” She explained cautiously, still uncertain of how familiar she should act when around the young Himishi girl. "I think I wrote down most of the important information, so if you haven’t had a chance to read up on it yet it should help out.”

Tsubasa was quite proud of her notes, they may have suffered a little from her shorthand style but to her they were readable. Most of the time she wasn’t sharing them with others so that didn’t matter but she would be more than happy to try and explain things if asked. In the meantime she was more than happy to attempt to step onto the tree while her teammate looked at her notes, alternating between her shoe covered foot and her naked foot as she attempted to figure out if there was any real difference between the two.

Tsubasa had sent a message? Someone in the clan must have intercepted it, considering it had never made its way to her. Though the thought is a little alarming, her expressions ultimately will not betray her here.[break][break]

All that there is is a hint of questioning, finicky curiosity towards the undescribed list of people that had been invited. As if she were trying to determine if anyone else would show up and whether she needed to leave before they did. With how little time they've spent together however, she's certain that Tsubasa might just struggle to translate this look.[break][break]

Perhaps, she might not even notice it at all, with how focused the older genin is on her climb. Things seem to be going rather well, considering how she hasn't slipped thus far but perhaps, that will all change when conscious effort has to be made unconscious. Add on the need to maintain the constant flow of chakra even while using other jutsu, and the task seems infinitely more complex.[break][break]

Blink. Reel back. Reset. She's getting ahead of herself. After all, none of that matters if they can't even get the basics down. So the young sparrow begins to put in her own work, drawing out a fragment of her chakra and beginning to circulate it through her feet.

[Suzuki Tsubasa]

What Suzume didn’t seem aware of in Tsubasa’s work was that she wasn’t slipping because she hadn’t even started trying. The girl was sending chakra into her feet sure, experimenting with intensity, strength, position, but she hadn’t even put her weight on the foot yet. Tsubasa simply wanted to see if she could detect any difference between her two conditions before truly starting to put work into the technique.

"I don’t think shoes matter.” She said decisively, unaware of the thoughts and worries that plagued her younger teammate’s mind. "Or I guess it’s probably more accurate to say they do? But you just need to compensate appropriately, which doesn’t seem to change stuff too much, just remember they’re there maybe?”

The silver haired girl glanced back at Suzume briefly and gave her another encouraging smile. She wasn’t sure if the other girl was working on it already or not, she was no sensor after all, but she did feel a desire to encourage her teammate. While she couldn’t be sure, the younger girl seemed to have her own worries and anxieties about being a genin so she tried her best to express the sort of support people had been showing her recently. The things that helped her start to believe.
