TANTETSU, KOSUKE the samurai personal info
NAME: Tantestu, Kosuke AGE: 53 GENDER: Male BIRTHDAY: January 25th VILLAGE: Iwagakure no Sato CLAN: Tantestu RANK: Elite Jōnin POSITION: Jōnin Hanchō ALIASES:
[/i]][/u] Because of the way he wears his sword, along with his chosen style of kenjutsu - he is oft called by many, even those that do not know him; simply, Samurai. Steelsworn [World] As renowned as his work as a shinobi is, perhaps more telling is that of his work as a steel smith. His blades are often stamped with 'steel sworn by (鋼で宣誓)', along with various armors and miscellaneous equipment. Those that he has sold to have spread the word of a man steelsworn, something that continues to stick with him year after year. Pig-Iron [Clan]In some reference to his quality in size and strength, Kosuke was often called 'pig-iron' by his larger relatives at a young age. As time has passed, the name has become more fitting with his particular skill as a steelsmith, and transformed from a belligerent act of name-calling to something he accepts with pride. The Crescent Sun [Village]A nickname 'earned' during the civil war, Kosuke's overuse of Fire Release: Leaping Flames across the battlefields would see him called a 'Crescent Sun'. The belief that his abilities were waning due to his over-reliance on the technique, such as the moon does - so shall the sun. [/ul][/blockquote][/blockquote] appearanceHEIGHT: 6'0" WEIGHT: 188 lb.
Kosuke is, as far as a Tantetsu is concerned; a runt. Of a generally above average height, with a surprising build for his age, his size is nothing extraordinary. While he is seen most-often in his trademark armor, his head is still readily visible. Faint lines have started to carress his angular, if squared face. Sporting a regular five'o clock shadow, his left eye bares a singular scar that trails somewhat down his cheek. Underneath his right eye is another, yet horizontal, scar. His nose is large, with a slight hook, between two dark brown eyes. His brow is somewhat heavy, although not as heavy nor thick as his hair - a long black mess held together in a bun atop his head, strands usually falling in and around his face. It's rare for him to leave it down.
Starting from rather high up; his armor encases nigh his entire body. With form-fitting piece that go all the way up to his ears, the rest of it connects down against his jaw and chin. A faint collection of tans and browns, with a faint hint of green, his suit is exceptionally unique; even among the Tantetsu. Multiple pieces of it appear to be strapped on, bolted on, or layered on top of something else - all of which are true, to some extent. It's prominent features are rather bulky constructs to either side of his thighs, and patterning that somewhat resembles the human musculature structure. This is, however, just the base suit; the right side of his chest is far more asymmetrical.
Starting on his right pectoral muscle is a large, steel apparatus molded onto his regular suit. The general tone of it is a deep gunmetal grey, if not black; with an underside of more silver interlocking plates. Accents of red denote it with similar bolts to those on the other pieces of his armor, including the two 'fins' that rest beneath his ears. His arm is covered in this rather bulky contraption, the top of his forearm transitioning to a bright red towards its end. On his opposing him are his sword, Sunset, sheathed in it's bulky, metal sheathe; Sundowner. Etched into the far right of his shoulder is the Iwagakure village symbol, in place of an average headband. While he has no general footwear, the suit does have plentiful support around the area, including a metal toe guard.
personalityNINDO: "Progress needs purpose."
blunt, a rusted blade Tending to say what comes to the forefront of his mind, Kosuke is not a hesitant, nor reluctant speaker. An endearing trait to some, aggravating to others, his voice travels with a confidence that can only be established from his extensive career as a shinobi. While he rarely backs down from a point once made, this attitude shouldn't be mistaken for stubbornness, but a difficulty in admitting his own wrongdoings.
impersonal, a funeral with no name Over the years, Kosuke has had increasingly troubled times with forming more close and intimate bonds with those around him. As friends and allies from what feel like previous lives pass, he continues to find himself more alone, less likely to accept anyone as a friend or anything similar. In some ways, this has brought him closer to those he truly cares about; but his emotions feel like they are often naught but hanging by a thread, waiting to be cut.
prejudice, born from pride Kosuke has been molded by the beliefs of his fellow clanmen, and fellow villagers, for his entire life. Surrounded by rife conflicts between clans and clanless, bearing witness to the tyranny of those who hold guise to such beliefs; he has become somewhat despondent. Seeing their own actions as a betrayal of their own potential, his bitterness has turned into a hard stance, difficult, if not impossible, to change. While it is a truly vast category, some of the specifics include: a personal lack of trust for the Nohime, a dislike of Biju and Jinchuriki in general, and above all, that one's clan is what they make of it.
passion, of a long burning flame Not an easily excitable person by most means, Kosuke has a fair share of hobbies, or more realistically, "passions". From his genuine love of all things weapon crafting, to learning new techniques, he rarely ever barely dips into something. While his own abilities may not reflect this, his general knowledge is exceedingly detailed and deep with several, almost random, categories shelved away. While almost all of them are a more advanced learning of general knowledge, a few distinct passions are deep cuts.
ease, born from terrifying strength Surprisingly a rather easy going person in most day-to-day situations, Kosuke finds it difficult to become stressed out, or more accurately, put into a situation where he needs to feel stressed. While this may shift in combat, or around certain people; he can often be found with a careless smile.
priorities, a man's direction While not always exact, Kosuke has his own list of priorities. Ranging from the village of Iwagakure, to his duties as a shinobi, even going so far as whether or not he should sleep. These are something he finds particularly important for any person to have, only to become something more than annoyed whenever they would rather tackle things in a nonsensical way. His approach leaves very little room to breath; and he likes the order it brings to an otherwise chaotic life.
loyalty, for a fitting ruler Born as a shinobi, and he will die as a shinobi; Kosuke's loyalty has rarely ever been seen as lacking. While he has had laps in personal judgement in the past, he sees to serve those as most capable, with the most singular drive. He would rather push himself into positions of leadership than see others fail at them, particularly if they were to boost themselves off of his own merits. He demands performance, and will do anything it takes to get to that point.
history~57 SD - 49 SD Kosuke was born somewhat prematurely to a Noh, Sakura; the mistress of Tantetsu, Hideo. Somewhat elderly at the time of his now third son's birth, he had amassed quite an amount of wealth, and despite his rather diminutive size and "thin" blood, welcomed him and his mother as family. To Hideo - family was everything, a true Tantetsu man through and through.
Kosuke's early life would not be an easy one. From his rather low stance in his clan, accompanied by his supposed 'weak genes', h would be ridiculed by many. Although rarely openly, it was still easy for the young boy to often find himself secluded among the rather reclusive clan. With his mother having passed shortly after his birth, the only people he truly had were his immediate family. His father, Hideo - and two half brothers, Inoharu and Nichisuke. While he was not able to learn the clan's inheritance for some time, it did not stop him from learning how to forge steel. Before he joined the academy, he would have forged a half dozen swords on his own, and countless more with aid.
At the age of seven, he would be admitted into Iwagakure's Academy. A sort of culture shock for the young child, he hadn't actually seen anything outside of the Tantetsu's land. Adapting to the idea of a "shinobi" was foreign in concept, and adjusting to the actual activities would prove more... Difficult, for Kosuke than many of his peers. Yet, while difficult, it would be something he thoroughly enjoyed. These so called "shinobi" took him in willingly, and gladly - unlike many of his clan that saw him as unfit to be a member of their family. While not true, this first year in the academy could be seen as the 'birth' of Kosuke. At the age of eight, his skill with most techniques would far surpass those of his peers, as he slowly, yet surely, climbed through the academy. Day after day, and sword after sword.
~48 SD - 42 SD From the ages of eight to nine, Kosuke's training between home and the academy would slowly become further entwined. Sword smithing would turn his young body hard, and practice with the blades would enhance his reflexes. All the while, focusing to maintain and produce chakra in a way that allowed him to not be constantly pushed away by his older siblings. In this period, Nichisuke would become closer with his younger brother - and do something taboo to the clan; helping him to harness his natural abilities with kōton.
His studies would stray as far as he could take them, trying to figure out more methods to sword forging that he couldn't grasp, let alone perform. During this, he would come across a form of sword fighting that had been known for its use by samurai. Iaido, as it was called, would be what he would hound his elder siblings about for months. Eventually, they'd break down, and go out of their way to find any techniques related to the style. He would eagerly, if clumsily, attempt to learn the style. While not the fastest learner, his skills were beginning to shape up into something greater than what an academy student should be capable - and his teacher took strong notice.
