It is no secret that Aika is a master of the art of Kenjutsu, and this prowess has earned her quite the reputation amongst the Shinobi of the world. Many rumors have been spread about her prowess with a blade, stories of her one-woman campaign against the Water Daimyo that ended only with the former Lord’s death, legends of her bisecting the Sanbi with a blade of flame during its rampage. The utter mastery she displays with a blade has lead many to flee the site of a battle at the mere mention of her name. Known for overwhelming power backed up by a surprisingly mind, Aika is seen as both a demon of the battlefield and brilliant, gleaming flower off it, granting her the title of "Chigiri Hana”- the Bloody Mist Flower, after the carnage she wrought in Kiri’s Civil War. PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: Tall, lithe, and well-muscled for one her size, Aika’s frame holds no flab or fat to weigh her down and never has. Her skin is pale like the moon on a clear night; spotless and faintly Southern in origin, though her exact ethnicity is impossible to know thanks to the mask that covers her face when on mission or on duty.
Speaking of such, the woman’s mask is a strange thing- made of the bones of dead Kaguya she slew during the Civil War, the mask covers her entire face save for the eyes, and is made up of multiple layers, with each layer fused to the one above/below. The first layer is in fact a single piece with no cracks, protrusions, or edges; it is only when we get to the second and third layers of the bone-like substance that it becomes more patchwork in nature. Pieces of bone stick out across her cheeks and forehead at perfectly formed right angles to the bottom layer, framing where her mouth and forehead would be with their simple, animalistic designs, while the top of her mask is covered by a beak like veneer that extends from several inches above her crown to the tip of her nose.
The only thing not covered by her mask are the woman’s eyes– pastel-cherry things the size of a small acorn that leap from one target to the next, never staying still and always one the move, as if she were in a perpetual state hyper-activity. Her fingers are long and slender despite the black gloves that cover them at all times, and her nails are trimmed and cut to about half a centimeter in length, so that they do not prick her if and when she gets into a fight.
Despite its simplistic nature, Aika’s hair is the most noticeable of her physical features; long, thick, and layered with multiple, interwoven tiers, the woman’s locks reach all the way down to her waist without approaching, or even framing, her face. Situated atop the mass of twisted, spiky hair is a single piece of red cloth that covers the parts of her crown that her mask does not, and indeed is actually attached to it, as if it was grown out of the mask itself.
Her clothes consist of a vibrant red and black dress patterned with vines and roses that covers her ample bust and provides a nominal level of protection to her long lean arms. Her skirt is a pleated and charming addition that shows off her legs while still hiding her inner thighs. Along with this is a piece of worn red leather that runs across her backside and just past the hem of her skirt that holds multiple pockets, as well as several lengths of black fur hanging from the back left side. Holding these two pieces of clothing to her waist is another piece of worn leather, this time a belt of black and red that is tied down by a plain metal buckle in the shape of a lotus.
In addition to these, Aika wears a set of black leather gloves, over which are layered a pair of red lacquered, segmented steel gauntlets that both protect her forearms and increase the damage they do upon impact. She also wears a set of black, thigh length boots with a red rose patterned across the outer thighs. Despite lacking any truly distinctive ornamentation, the woman does have a single set of what one might consider jewelry– a set of three beaded necklaces, each of differing lengths, one of which holds a small, though well made, wooden cross with the outline of a dove imprinted in the center. Her sword, Hanagiri, hangs on her left hip, snuggled comfortably in between her belt and skirt. PERSONALITY NINDO: "What you do has a far greater impact than what you say.”
At first glance, Aika appears to personify the virtues enthusiastic exuberance. Passionate yet controlled, adaptable yet focused, she seems to embody the very best of what the world has to offer, something that is not lost on her. So solid is this impression that, to most, she comes across as having always been this way, an unchanging rock amidst a sea of uncertainty. This "completeness” is the one aspect of herself that she presents with absolute clarity, and is the foundation atop which she has built her life upon. However, this this facade of put-togetherness is just that; a facade. For, while the woman believes herself to be perfect, she is far from it.
While she does her best to live up to the ideal she proclaims, it is an impossible task, for the very thing she uses as a guide is, at its best, little more than a vague and muddle piece of the puzzle. She can search and discover more of what it is, but she will never be able to use that to define who she is, and so chooses, however unconsciously it may be, to define herself through the search for perfection rather than by finding it. As such, Aika excels at the more conventional methods of self-discovery; she is outgoing, personable and charismatic almost to a fault. She approaches conversations as if each new word will shed new light on her life, finding a strange peace in both being accepted and rejected by others.
She is at once a proponent of the rule of law and its harshest critic, informal in her obedience and rigid in her rebellion to the point of frustrating her friends and colleagues alike. Her lack of "proper” etiquette makes her seem less cultured and mature than most, but her distinct sense of sensuality makes up for this in spades. If there is an idea or train of thought she has not yet understood, she will not rest until she can claim to comprehend at least half of its inner workings, often doing so with an enthusiasm most reserve only for the most intimate of moments. All of these things contribute to her quest, each part fitting with the rest in an ever growing web of seemingly disparate thoughts and behaviors that combine to form something greater than the sum of its parts.
And yet this ever-shifting, ever evolving sense of self, this journey of discovery and understanding is not what her heart desires. Aika lives for who she might become because she doesn't know who she is. It gives her purpose and adds meaning to a life that has none. Pain has no hold over her, fear cannot direct her, people cannot hurt her if she is never the same person each day, each hour, each moment. Life cannot surprise her if she expects every waking moment to be one where her entire worldview could be irrevocably altered. If she could simply expand her knowledge to include all possible view points, then she would be able to determine what, if anything, she can call her own brand of truth.
However, that is but the surface of Aika, the small bits of herself that she has crafted into the façade she feeds to the world (and herself). She is more than just the journey, for in declaring her desire to find herself she has inadvertently admitted her inability to live a life without other people shaping who she is. By looking for the answer to "Who am I?” she has purposefully opened herself up to others, hoping that they might be able to provide a meaning to an existence she feels has none. She wishes, beyond all else, to know her place and purpose in this world, and be given a chance to live that purpose for all to see. For if she is to be given a chance at life, she would live it the way she was meant to, or not at all.
And so Aika lives for that, for the moment when everything finally clicks and the decades of life after. She strives for this clarity of purpose knowing that, one day, it will be all she knows. She cannot squash this part of herself, cannot push it aside and accept that there is no reason for her existence. She may never become perfect, but that is what makes her whole; her deep-rooted desire to be better, her need to understand, her raw and unfettered emotionality, all these serve to make her her. Rebellious and a trouble-maker she may be, Aika has a righteousness that pushes through her facade and reveals the gold in others, without thought to manipulation or control. She wants her life to matter, an all-consuming need that drives her into the ground as everyone and everything tries to convince her that she isn’t that important, and probably never will be. FIGHTING STYLE Though Aika is by and large a swordsman, the woman realizes the necessity for other options on the field of battle, and as such has done her best to diversify her skillset beyond just sword techniques. Though far from a master of the other ninja arts, Aika has a basic understanding of every type of jutsu one can imagine, and can fight at nearly any range should the need call for it- though she will always be a primarily close range fighter, the woman is capable of cutting down her foes at any distance, and is no slouch when defending herself against other forms of attack as well.
That being said, her preferred method for combat is that of raw, overwhelming force; her usual choice is to smother the enemy with an unrelenting barrage of attacks that cover all avenues of escape and shatter their guard to pieces through nothing but sheer force. Because of this mindset, Aika always strives to be the one to strike first, as the first move tends to set the pace and flow of a battle, be it between two masters or a thousand Genin.
Kenjutsu, and particularly her own personal style of Kenjutsu, is her strongest avenue in combat, as the techniques and jutsu she knows/has created allow her to fight at close, medium, or long range, hurling devastating arcs of pure flame or turning entire battlefields into a roiling pit of fire and ash. However, just because fire is her primary nature does not mean she is not without other options; her knowledge of Fuuton techniques, while not nearly as substantial as Katon, allows her to add an explosiveness to her otherwise single-note techniques that cannot be ignored, and her understanding of Suiton, while limited to the basics, is enough for the woman to produce devastating combinations should be given time to prepare.
Though earned through years of blood, sweat, and pain, Aika is no stranger to tactics and strategy, having fought through an entire Civil War well before she became an Elite Jounin. While she obviously prefers fighting on her own, she is no stranger to leading men into battle, and isn’t afraid to risk lives if it means ending a battle quickly; this risk-driven strategy extends to her own tactics as well, as she can often be found allowing an opponent to strike at a perceived opening in order to force their guard down for a devastating counterstrike. Kenjutsu Goddess
It is said that the greatest swordsman can determine the outcome of a battle with single stroke of their blade; for Aika, this is saying is not merely an anecdote, but an actual fact, as her skill with a blade is far and above what one would consider to be the threshold for "mastery.” No matter what weapon is in her hands, be it Hanagiri or some other blade, she is capable of triumphing against any foe. Only the greatest of swordsman can hope to match her, and none as of yet can claim to be her better. When she draws her blade, the weapon is not merely an extension of herself, nor a separate being bent to her will- it is her, a perfect embodiment of her will and self, a weapon carved from her very soul to cleave her enemies in twain.
As such, Aika’s style is one that perfectly reflects her perceived "self,” much like her Heart Nature; seemingly wild on the surface, but hiding a secret order to it that grants it far more power than mere brute strength alone. This, combined with her instinctual understand of Hanagiri’s capabilities, gives her otherwise straightforward approach to swordsmanship a level of complexity that few can match.
Personal Kenjutsu Style - Hanakiri Kata
Aika’s Kenjutsu stye (Hanakiri Kata lit. "Flower Cutter Style”), while not terribly complex at first glance, is a style with many layers of purpose hidden beneath the surface, each one blooming only when it is needed, allowing the woman to fight at nearly any range, in any condition, and with (or without) anyone nearby to help her. Powerful, direct, and incredibly dangerous up close, Hanakiri Kata relies on her natural affinity for Katon in order to empower her strikes with the fury and intensity of fire, granting the woman an incredibly versatile moveset that she uses to great effect.
Preferring to use raw power to lure her opponents into a false sense of understanding, only to follow up a blow with a sneaky, almost underhanded attack. Marked by quick, sweeping blows that mask hidden thrusts and cuts far more deadly than they appear, the Hanakiri Kata is at once incredibly easy to understand and almost impossible to master or defend against, as it provides its user with near limitless amounts of versatility and raw, overwhelming power to defeat those who would dare stand against them.
Immense Chakra Reserves
While Aika’s ability to manipulate her chakra is no better than the average one would expect of a person her rank, she more than makes up for this with the immense reserve of chakra she possesses, far and above what her peers would consider to be normal. Through years of strain, toil, and countless battles, the Kurosaki has expanded her reserves to the point that she is able to expend large chunks of chakra in even the most trivial of fights and still walk away with more than enough to spare, allowing her to go all out in nearly every situation and not fear chakra exhaustion afterwards.
Crimson Blur - Weight Trained Speed
Trained from a young age to prioritize speed as well as power, Aika has always been fleet of foot and has only grown quicker with time and experience. There are few within Kirigakure who can claim to have the speed necessary to keep up with her, and even fewer who can say so honestly- even when wearing her weights, she is more than capable of keeping up with Jounin level opponents, matching them step for step with seeming ease.
Once the weights come off, however, she becomes a literal blur of motion to all but the fastest of fighters, outpacing even Elite Jounin of similar skill in terms of sheer speed. Only those with extremely powerful sensory capabilities or doujutsu specifically meant to track fast moving targets can follow her when she is moving without weights on, as without such advantages it is almost impossible to see her move.
Flower’s Aren’t Weak - Weight Trained Strength
Trained from a young age to prioritize power as well as speed, Aika has always been capable of great feats of strength and has only grown stronger with time and experience. There are few within Kirigakure who can claim to have the physical might necessary to keep up with her, and even fewer who can say so honestly- even when wearing her weights, she is more than capable of keeping up with Jounin level opponents, matching them blow for blow with seeming ease.
Once the weights come off, however, she becomes a literal monster of power to all but the strongest of fighters, outpacing even Elite Jounin of similar skill in terms of sheer power. Only those with Kekkei Genkai specifically meant to enhance their physical prowess can match her when she is fighting without weights on, as without such advantages it is almost impossible to compare to her pure, overwhelming strength.
An Unyielding Body
Years of hellish combat have hardened Aika’s slender frame into a near impenetrable fortress, allowing her to shrug off weaker blows and soldier through stronger without issue, granting her an increased level of hardiness that only a swordsman could understand. Capable of outright ignoring minor wounds such as small or deep cuts, 1st and 2nd degree burns, bruises/cracked bones, the Kunoichi has molded her body to all but ignore pain, allowing her to push through otherwise incapacitating injuries and fight on even when she should be dropping to ground from shock. Major injuries, such as 3rd degree burns (or higher), deep slashes, and broken bones can still hinder her ability to fight, but even those are lessened in their potency, allowing her to press on in a difficult battle far longer than normal. It is only when one deals a truly devastating blow to her that her defenses fail- and even then, she is still able to hold for a moment or two to get in one final blow, should the need arise.
