I'm gonna watch it burn

The white-clothed Nakajima mentally groaned when Asa said something was already coming. "Tch, we just got here." The Chūnin muttered under his breath as his opposite arm lit up in flames. While the mix of Azure and Violet were beautiful, the intensity of his flames were akin to the of a star's death, staring at him was not recommended. Ryuunosuke went over in his head what exactly Asa saw, understanding her was rough at times and this was one of those times, it had not needed to be one of those times but the team got the lottery ticket.

Ryuunosuke walked forward when Asa beckoned him over. "Hakurai-san, how quickly can you form ice structures." The Chūnin asked, going full cremation in case something goes terribly wrong. As long as it wasn't a jutsu, he was fine in this state. He knew no one else... no one else but Taro had that kind of protection. But, when Asa gave her game plan, Ryuunosuke just stared at her. Fire bad!!! He wanted to shout, fully assuming the girl had no means of fire protection. Please, don't get hit.

The Nakajima thought as he built more chakra in him as firey fingers weaved the seals necessary to prep his jutsu, he waited for his light to catch the moving organisms; before he even identified the grade of the threat, he unleashed the ultimate crowd control jutsu, "Katon: Gōka Messhitsu!"

SPECIAL ABILITIES USED:
Soldier-boy Blue Flame of the Nakajima
As a Nakajima, Ryuunosuke has the honor of learning the clan hijutsu' Haini no Jutsu [Cremation Technique], in doing so, he displayed flames in the color of Blue. Aided by using Katon Jutsus in combat during the use of [Cremation Technique] had his chakra fuse with flames he created. Shifting the aesthetics of red to blue flames for all Nakajima/Katon Jutsus. As a result, he is a Nakajima of the Blue Flame.

Heightened Chakra Reserves
If Ryuunosuke knows one true strategy, it's to completely overwhelm his opponents. Through extensive training with his Nakajima Hijutsu, Ryuunosuke unlocked his true potential in chakra reserves, giving him extra fuel to fan his flames. His chakra reserves relationally doubled, meaning whatever his chakra level is at genin is doubled; heightening his reserves beyond other shinobi of similar skill compared to Ryuunosuke.


Blue Inferno
As a natural occurrence, blue fire is hotter in temperature compared to red and orange flames. Burns for Ryuunosuke up a degree of severity, 2nd-degree burn turn into third degrees, and so on. This temperature shift allows Ryuunosuke to burn open or cauterize wounds to unleash brutal blue infernos.

Atomic Spiral
Chakra is fuel and for Nakajimas, fuel is fire. Tapping into his increased reserves, Ryuunosuke's flames are entirely fed chakra, requiring no oxygen that powers the flames on his body while using the Cremation Technique. Due to utilizing his chakra reserves, the Nakajima's flames intensity boarders unnatural and the substance needed lacks any earthly component besides pure chakra. Because of this, his base cremation ability intensifies his flames to merely appear to go supernova, turning up the heat around him to substantially increase in temperature, melting snow and ice around him in a 10-meter radius (Distance is Set and will not increase with the Intense heat SA). Unlike most fire jutsus, Ryuunosuke's Cremation technique won't go out submerged underwater. Being sustained solely by chakra does allow the flames to exist in little to no oxygen areas, allowing his Cremation body to exist while submerged in water. This level of mastery within a Blue Flame is indicated by a blue-violet gradient hue, overwriting the complete blue aesthetic that a typical Blue Flame has on both clan-specific and universal Katon. Appearing as a spiral of multiple colors, the Nakajima's flames exist on another level, but where he stands on the totem pole is now unknown. Takumi hated waiting around and relying on others for direction, but unfortunately that was the situation he found himself in. It was only a few moments before Asa seemed to spot something in the darkness of the cavern, relaying the information swiftly to Hakurei and suggesting (more commanding really) a course of action. Takumi hadn't managed to catch everything regarding the incoming danger's description, but he barely heard something about... many legs?

The Imagawa let out a grunt of frustration. He really disliked being told what to do, but now wasn't the time to be defiant. Instead, Takumi simply followed the proposed plan, making sure to reposition himself besides Hakurei, while maintaining a fair amount of space to allow the man to use this 'ice sorcery' Asa mentioned. His own hands weren't idle, moving with practiced motions to retrieve a set of shuriken in each and keeping them at the ready. He wasn't so eager to throw them that he'd launch them the moment he saw a creature. There were to be many techniques sent down the cavern already, and so he'd withhold his own volley until it seemed their foes, whatever they were, managed to get past the initial salvo of attacks from the others.

[Nakajima Taro]

Taro's eagerness would only further turn to annoyance, as he'd be order to basically just cover Hakurei. Hopefully these ice structures he could create were all they were cracked to be. Ryuunosuke getting order up front and center to take all that spot light. Clenching both fist he had the mental gung-ho to take on anything. A part of him desiring these insects to make it past Asa and Ryuu, give his fist and feet a shot at eliminatingthese creatures.

Attempting to position himself behind Hakurei, so his burning fist still lit the background group up. As he'd attempt to keep both an eye on the combat soon to come, but to also be readily available to either of his assigned team. His stance lowered and his weight shift from one leg to the other, as though rearing to launch himself at the first sign of trouble or teammate needing rescue. He'd try to mentally prepare himself; many legs and flat like a snake? To him it could only be one thing then. "Giant Centipedes?" He'd question based off the description, but keep his eyes open. Ready for the unbelievable.

Asa Yuki Hakurei Nakajima Taro Imagawa Takumi Nakajima Ryuunosuke

Taking the helm with the information she was given, Asa set out a plan of action, kicking everyone into gear and getting them moving. Before the fight could even properly break out, it seemed Hakurei and Ryuunosuke had everything well and truly handled. Hakurei launched a lance of ice down the cavern and managed to flash freeze the majority of the creatures in place. Ryuunosuke's super heated flash of fire spilled down the hallway soon after, thawing the the ice and crisping the insects alive. If the sudden temperature changes didn't kill them, it at least maimed them.

For a moment, it almost seemed as though the combined attacks had been overkill. Had they really wasted that much effort on something so small?

Then the icy cavern ground beneath them began to shake and from the earth emerged the gnashing mandibles of a handful of the creatures. Nowhere near the nightmarish swarm that Asa had seen approach, but at least five of them. They were about three feet long each, and attempted to bite Takumi, Taro, and Hakurei.

With the cavern forwards unblocked, the shinobi again had both paths as an option. They could flee from these stragglers and continue on, or take the time to crush them as well before advancing. The creatures seemed more dangerous in combination with one another, so in such small numbers they died easy, even if their bites were horrifically painful to anyone unfortunate enough to actually suffer one.

If they continued down either path it would begin to occur to Asa that this place continued. Down deep. Almost like an anthill into the ground. Down each branching path, they were humanoid shapes lying on the dark ground. They weren't moving.

[Nakajima Taro]

The sound of the centipedes burrowing up around him was more than enough warning. His vision lacked the aid of chakra sensory, but the bugs weren't invisible and his hand torch lit the surroundings. He'd do his best to eye up where they were getting ambushed and the rough order these bugs emerged. His adrenaline had already been pumping from the explosion and mystery. "Finally something to do~!" He'd relish aloud.

Using his taijutsu prowess and already prepared fist, he'd down his fist on the back of the closest bug emerging. His torch hand reaching behind him for his scroll. Just before his burning hand could reach it, his fist which hit the bug would engulf in flame to change light sources and assure the bugs demise. His other hand deactivating the cremation technique, as to quickly undo the strap holding his top scroll. Pulling it off his back, as he'd push off the ground with his combusting fist. In order to quickly spin around to face the next enemy appearing.

In the momentum of his spin Taro would remove the scroll and swing it down for the next bug like massive newspaper to a fly. The scroll specifically weighted to train Taro, but that weight now acting as the true killing force behind his blow. If possible, he'd try to use the flexibility of scrolls material to bounce it off ice and bug corpse. Weilding his full strength and remaining momentum to attempt one more massive scroll crush.

[Asa]

Asa was no fool. She was an experienced hunter, and knew that anything they left behind would possibly come back to bit them. In this case, perhaps literally. Asa wanted to leave no possible contingencies where these... creatures could double back and regroup. 

Asa did not plan on chasing them to the ends of the earth, but she would not let them have an easy time if they wanted to escape. With her twin scythes, she dropped upon any that would endanger the reckless Nakajima, or the backline of Yuki Hakurei. Otherwise, her plan was to use her position on the ceiling to her advantage and pick any stragglers off with her bow. She did not feel that she needed her chakra enhanced bow techniques for these. She wanted to conserve her strength for the coming battles ahead. She was convinced that there would be more. 

If she would get a moment of reprieve, she would unseal the demonic eye once more, to try and spot the remainder of the horde she had seen before. Regardless of what she saw, she would deactivate it quickly after getting the relevant data. Using the eye was strenuous, and she could not afford to be wasteful. 

"These tunnels are a nest of these beasts," Asa said, voice firm with confidence. "Like... those insects that burrow in the soil. The... ants? I believe that is the term in your tongue for the creatures I mean. These beasts are similar, but more dangerous by far."

I'm gonna watch it burn

After unleashing that fire blast from hell, Ryuunosuke pumped a small amount of chakra into his blade once his fiery hand grabbed tightly of the hilt. Unsheathing it saw his cremation mode fizzle out, both glow from Taro and the blade proved enough ample light. "How are they still more? I lighted them up like any chair after Taro eats anything spicy." The Nakajima half-joked, half complained. It really wasn't his battle as the stragglers made their way over to the others. Ryuunosuke was more than tempted to just let the others handle it after a display of azure and violet infernal hell. If only he could.

Nagging at him from his very core, the Nakajima was pulled to combat, even against something that seems so weak. All the Chūnin wanted was to show it was pointless to even stand in his presence. He left it at no chance, rushing to the nearest open target, the Nakajima would swing his blade at the critter's legs, the azure glowing blade cutting through as if nothing even existed below the creature's body. Ryuuunosuke just placed the blade pointing upwards below this apparent insect Asa called them. Eyes carefully examined the critter as it fell onto the blade.

A weak carapace would mean the Nakajima watched with pleasure as the superheated blade bisected the creature, using its limbless weight against it. Ryuunosuke didn't have much to say, even less to do. All that would come from him, "So, which way?"

[Imagawa Takumi]

It seemed that Takumi's decision to keep a hold of his weaponry had been the right one. Between Hakurei's ice and Ryuunosuke's fire, the initial wave of creatures, giant centipedes as far as Takumi could tell, had been outright killed or critically wounded. Like Taro, the rumbling beneath their feet provided more than enough warning for Takumi to react, immediately moving to the side to put some distance between himself and the foes attempting to bite at him. His arms moved in repeated sweeping crescents as he let loose his shuriken, using only as many as necessary to kill the remaining centipedes, despite the primal desire to simply throw as many as possible.

He prioritized the bugs closest to him, but once they were dispatched his began launching his projectiles towards the centipedes that surrounded Taro, provided his teammate hadn't already defeated them. There was no doubt in Takumi's mind that Hakurei would be able to handle himself, and thankfully the assault from below had nowhere near the same numbers as the initial wave of bugs. Killing them off would give the Yuki shinobi a moment to gather their bearings, a moment that Asa used to gather more information about the path ahead.

"If they are like ants, then they must have a queen. And a place where they keep their prey. We should press forward."

"Not a bad combo, eh?” There wasn't much time to relish in their victory before the remnants were upon them; burrowing up from under the earth. They had weird pinchers or something which Hakurei figured it might be best to avoid. [break][break] The others seemed to have a pretty good handle on the situation. So for the most part he would watch. Never turn your back to an enemy. The others seemed to acknowledge that thought instinctually. It was best they take care of these creatures rather than allow themselves to be chased into whatever dangers lay ahead. [break][break] Hakurei watched the rest of the team; taking note of their fighting styles individually. And if there were any left after they’d finished he would attempt to leap onto the monsters' back and pummel the back of their head with his fists.

Asa Yuki Hakurei Nakajima Taro Imagawa Takumi Nakajima Ryuunosuke

In an efficient wipe, the group managed to do away with the remainder of the centipedes, crushing them under foot or scroll or fist, or slicing them with various weapons. Soon enough the entry cavern was quiet and they had a moment to breathe and reassess the situation. Asa took another glance with her eye and found that the wave that had approached them had been quickly snuffed by Hakurei and Ryuunosuke's first attack, with any remaining stragglers (and there weren't many, only a few crisped and injured creatures struggling across the ice) appearing to retreat back into the cave system for now. This cleared the way to advance forwards.

No reason to stand about in this opening all day. They had advancements to make. Takumi recommended pressing forwards after the location the centipedes had come from, in order to seek out a source. A center to this hive. A queen.

If no one had any disagreements, they would continue forwards.

They inched deeper into the cave system, and as they continued, they'd begin to find odd signs. Slashes carved into the ice, strange melted formations in the walls. It was clear combat had occurred here.

Eventually, they came upon their first sign of... "life" wouldn't be accurate, because the human body they found was very much dead. A shinobi sporting the Yukigakure symbol was slumped on the ground. Their body was blue from the cold, but if the wounds they sustained were any indication, it was clear they'd died long before freezing.

It seemed they were headed in the right direction.

If they liked to, they could stop to dig through the belongings of the deceased shinobi.

If they did, they would find:

A map of Yukigakure with several locations marked. Most of them had been crossed off. It appeared this stop had been one of the last ones on Emiri's expedition before she vanished.

A notebook containing some detailed notes on some translation work the shinobi had been doing before the expedition. Apparently, Emiri had stumbled upon some ancient journal chronicling the exploits of a historic katon master. Most of the language was too archaic to mean much of anything to the travelling party here, but one thing did stand out: the repeated use of the term tomb. Perhaps they were looking for the resting place of this katon master, for one reason or another.

If they did search the body, they could discuss the contents they discovered as they moved forwards.

Eventually, they would reach a sheet of ice that was flat and reflective, like a mirror. There were two small seals carved into its surface. The seals read "Flame of the Earth" and "Flame of the Spirit."

They could attempt to figure out what these meant in relation to trying to open the door. Or they could attempt to bash right through the door, ignoring whatever risk that might bring. Or the resident Yuki could attempt to manipulate the door open using his own ice release.

[Asa]

Asa was silent as they went through the belongings of the dead man. She was focused more on keeping her eyes and ears open to potential attacks that could be coming their way. After all, she had seen many of these strange, insectoid beasts through the ice with the frozen demon eye. There would likely be more. She needed to keep on her guard, as she had taken a leadership role in this expedition. She could not let Lady Shuka down. They would return. They would succeed where this shinobi had failed. 

The mention of a fire master meant little to her. She was completely unread in the history of Yukigakure. She was a stranger there as much as she was anywhere. It was not a particular surprise that there would be ancient fire sorcerers. After all, there were modern ones. 

A tomb... the place of the dead. It would make sense that such an ancient place like that could be forgotten so utterly, particularly if these not ants had infested the entire structure. Asa would not have ventured past them on her own for sport. 

When they made it to the strange door, Asa held up a hand to caution the group to slow down. It took her much longer than the others to read the doors, but both used the character for "Fire". They had a fire sorcerer. This should be easy. 

"Flame of Earth, Flame of Spirit..." Asa mused. "Nakajima Ryunnosuke, are your flames that of the spirit? What is a flame of the earth?"

I'm gonna watch it burn

For once, we finally agree on something. Ryuunosuke thought as he kept his sword in hand, finally the group moved en masse from the entrance to a tunnel. He didn't know which, all he knew was to use his super heated weapon to carve the village symbol in the ice they decided to move to. The Nakajima followed along the path before the group was kindly greeted by a cadaver of a Yuki shinobi... well, former shinobi. The group ransacked the body for clues as toa what was going on and a map marking several locations was uncovered.

Yeah, so? The Nakajima dismissed the finding and passed it to Hakurei, someone that hopefully had a clue what was going on with that. Soon they came across a journal with heavy translation work of something. Ryuunosuke's eyes moved over key translations, mainly tomb, fire, and master, the rest meant little, enough to pass it on to anyone who cared enough. The Nakajima chuckled as he stood back up, feet moving to walk down the hall. "I never pegged Emiri as the type to seek out what kinda adds up to a children's tale. You don't expect me to believe that I lost my cousin based on a folklore."

Ryuunosuke made a sharp exhale, sounded like a scoff meeting a sigh. This was all getting hard to believe, and each uncovering was more and more annoying. It wasn't long before they came to... a mirror? The boy looked around for something that would point them in the right direction. The symbols, once translated, were even weirder in the form of the question Asa asked. "Lore of our abilities don't mention that if I recall, I honestly can't state an answer to... your question."

"Maybe Taro knows something, if not, do your think Hakurei." Ryuunosuke responded with, he was at a slump and he already didn't feel like finding an answer to a riddle when the question of a family member's fate plagued him.

As a Nakajima, Ryuunosuke has the honor of learning the clan hijutsu' Haini no Jutsu [Cremation Technique], in doing so, he displayed flames in the color of Blue. Aided by using Katon Jutsus in combat during the use of [Cremation Technique] had his chakra fuse with flames he created. Shifting the aesthetics of red to blue flames for all Nakajima/Katon Jutsus. As a result, he is a Nakajima of the Blue Flame.

Heightened Chakra Reserves
If Ryuunosuke knows one true strategy, it's to completely overwhelm his opponents. Through extensive training with his Nakajima Hijutsu, Ryuunosuke unlocked his true potential in chakra reserves, giving him extra fuel to fan his flames. His chakra reserves relationally doubled, meaning whatever his chakra level is at genin is doubled; heightening his reserves beyond other shinobi of similar skill compared to Ryuunosuke.


Blue Inferno
As a natural occurrence, blue fire is hotter in temperature compared to red and orange flames. Burns for Ryuunosuke up a degree of severity, 2nd-degree burn turn into third degrees, and so on. This temperature shift allows Ryuunosuke to burn open or cauterize wounds to unleash brutal blue infernos.

Atomic Spiral
Chakra is fuel and for Nakajimas, fuel is fire. Tapping into his increased reserves, Ryuunosuke's flames are entirely fed chakra, requiring no oxygen that powers the flames on his body while using the Cremation Technique. Due to utilizing his chakra reserves, the Nakajima's flames intensity boarders unnatural and the substance needed lacks any earthly component besides pure chakra. Because of this, his base cremation ability intensifies his flames to merely appear to go supernova, turning up the heat around him to substantially increase in temperature, melting snow and ice around him in a 10-meter radius (Distance is Set and will not increase with the Intense heat SA). Unlike most fire jutsus, Ryuunosuke's Cremation technique won't go out submerged underwater. Being sustained solely by chakra does allow the flames to exist in little to no oxygen areas, allowing his Cremation body to exist while submerged in water. This level of mastery within a Blue Flame is indicated by a blue-violet gradient hue, overwriting the complete blue aesthetic that a typical Blue Flame has on both clan-specific and universal Katon. Appearing as a spiral of multiple colors, the Nakajima's flames exist on another level, but where he stands on the totem pole is now unknown. [break][break] Hakurei didn’t have much to add in regards to the contents of the journal. This could very well be a tomb for a powerful shinobi. Although, it didn’t say what exactly she was looking for or at least none of them had found that information yet. [break][break] They walked a little further before coming across a door with two seals. He could try to break it if needed but past experience warned him against being too hasty. A moment’s thought could be the difference between life and death. "I don’t know much about katon but as a wielder of ice, I know my weaknesses. Lava comes from the earth, so does salt which melts ice, but maybe they just want a natural spark from flint or matches. The spirit could refer to sunlight from the heavens, or acid rain, or just to chakra based flames. There must be something we could try.”

[Nakajima Taro]

Taro moved with the group and tried to stay somewhat centered, as to keep his one burning fist to be a torch to keep the team in light. Provide a little warmth and just be ready for the unexpected. The desire for the unexpected to occur was high in the young males heart, he couldn't help enjoying the smack down which had just went down, but it was awfully short and anticlimactic in that nature. It was after all just a welcoming party for who knew what foes lay ahead of them, but soon they'd come across a very disappointing find. A Yukigakure shinobi had been here prior to them, but clearly suffered a grimmer fate. At least he hoped their group wouldn't suffer the same demise as this shinobi.

Taken back a second by the discovery, he'd almost blanked out on his teammates. His attention was caught somewhere between the dangerous possibilities and those locations they might occur. Luckily for him the others took more interest in the body and ransacked it quick, it was some sort of journal most took an interest in. Taro hadn't really concerned himself with that ordeal, but with nothing happening he found it hard not to harp on the situation. 'Emiri are you the next body we're going to find?' He'd think to himself worriedly, but then his attention drifted to the highest ranking in their team taking a knee. It was an awkward and unsafe position to take, but it was also a very respectful stance to take at an allies grave.

Grabbing the tip of his hat Taro would tip it downwards and attempt to give a moment of silence. This arguably was all to be expected, but as a chuunin for only a short amount of time. It'd certainly feel a much darker mission than most, but this wasn't just some random request. This was a mission of great importance, there was always a cost for greatness. It'd seem they'd spent their fair share. Hopefully there was some logic behind this team, he still couldn't grasp the straws of it, but was more than happy to go along for the ride. His eagerness subsided in the face of death, but it'd peak again as they'd continue back down the dark cavernous path.

A mirror and two seats, engravings about the earth and spirit fire. You'd think as a Nakajima, they'd just know about it. At least that seemed to be the going thought of their teammate Asa, he wish it'd been true, but it simply wasn't. Shrugging with an audible hum of confusion. "Huh, I can't say I know this phrasings meaning to the Nakajima. When I hear earth and spirit though, I think of shinobi, body and chakra... That or perhaps the balance of our inherent chakra's yin and yang. Though that's me wildly guessing allowed." It felt good to have something to respond to, but he felt kind of out of place. The tension in the room and around the mission was keeping him relatively quiet and that was internally driving him mad.

Thankfully the group didn't encounter any more centipedes for the time being as they pressed forward. Even so, Takumi kept his own senses on high alert, dreading the moment when he might feel the earth beneath his feet rumble yet again. The moment never came, though they did end up coming across the body of a Yuki shinobi, one they could assume had been a part of Emiri's expedition. The Imagawa murmered a brief prayer to the old spirits at the sight of it, hopefully allowing the shinobi's spirit to be at peace. Meanwhile, Hakurei examined the body and recovered a few items.

The contents of hte map and notebook gave a bit of a clearer insight as to what Emiri and her entourage had been trying to accomplish, but it also raised several more questions. Questions that would have to be wait to be answered as the group came across the next obstacle in their investigation. The group quickly discussed what the "Flame of hte Spirit" and "Flame of the Earth" might mean, and Takumi found himself agreeing most with Hakurei's conjecture, at least the part about creating a natural fire.

"Chakra fire and natural fire sound right. Taro, you carry wood and and the means to start a natural flame. Let's touch the seals with a burning branch and flame from one of the Nakajima. If that doesn't work, Hakurei should attempt to use his lineage to open the way."
