Asa Yuki Hakurei Nakajima Taro Imagawa Takumi Nakajima Ryuunosuke

When the team was brought before Yuki Shuka, the information she delivered may or may not have come as a surprise. Her transition to power was relatively sudden. Those who knew Emiri surely noticed her absence. For the leader of the nation to slowly fade out one day and be replaced with little fanfare- that was the kind of thing that raised questions. Turned heads. But there had been no violent upheaval. There had only been stability. The strangest of occurrences. To have be informed that Emiri simply embarked on an expedition one day and never returned... Perhaps that raised even more questions than it answered.

The team had been selected and briefed on the situation. Emiri had had a travel plan. She was to hit several sites around the nation searching for some old artifact and then return. But she never had. All the sites had been thoroughly searched and nothing had turned up- not until now. In one of the caves very near to Kuroi Kōri, there was a strange warping in the ice. As if it had been broken through and recently frozen back over, thinner and more brittle than the other white ice around it.

This was the site they were at today. These caverns were usually very closely guarded, so it was likely the first time most of them had ever stepped foot onto this pivotal landmark. Even nearer to the entrance of the caverns, the salted soot from the hot springs could be found flecking the snow, leaving it salt-and-pepper, a lingering ashen scent on the air.

"We're setting up now. We should be ready to blast this passage open soon. Get behind cover for now," one of the blast crew told the team. The shinobi selected to descend into the mouth of this mystery passageway today were Asa, Yuki Hakurei, Nakajima Ryuunosuke, Nakajima Taro, and Imagawa Takumi. Joining them was the GOKA's own Kabuto and another masked individual under her direction. Their presence indicated the potential danger of this mission. These shinobi needed to be braced. It was fully possible they may not be making it home.

They all had a moment before they would be asked to descend into the frozen depths of the cave. Would they talk with one another, spend their time preparing?

[Asa]

Asa had little to say. 

She did not like to speak during missions. Her expertise on the tundra was going to be vital for their progression: it wasn't difficult for her to locate the tunnels in which Nakajima Emiri's team had supposedly vanished down, given the extensive changes to the surrounding landscape. Everything about this disquieted her- fire did not belong within the ice. This Asa knew more than anything. 

She was one of the most experienced members of this operation. Yuki Hakurei and Kabuto were her superiors, after a fashion, but Asa was not content to let either of them lead her any more than it was necessary. She was a solo hunter, a lone wolf. The ice was her natural habitat, and anything they would come across would become her prey. 

She care little about Nakajima Emiri. The others in the expedition might have more ties to the woman, but Asa did not. She was little more than Lady Shuka's predecessor, and Asa did not have much lingering respect for the woman. What she did know was that the woman was a fire sorcerer with few peers: what in the cold could have overtaken her so easily? 

They were going to find out. Asa had her weapons at the ready, her supplies restocked, and her white eye ready to unseal if the need arose. 

[Nakajima Ryuunosuke]

I'm gonna watch it burn

Dressed in his white Chūnin outfit, the Nakajima was equipped fully the brim. This expedition was calling his name. He was certain Emiri was dead, it was the only way to explain the quiet shift in power, nothing convinced him otherwise. It's been quite some time since Ryuunosuke has seen his cousin, and honestly, he kind of missed her. He wanted to be stronger than her, be better, fight harder, fight faster. Not like this though. This wasn't in the slightest bit how he imagined surpassing Emiri and that alone made him pissed. Now he has to get stronger on his own, fighting who? Taro?

Fighting a Nakajima like him was nowhere near the equivalent of fighting a White Flame. At least, that was the opinion of Ryuunosuke. So when the chance to look for and find Emiri finally came, it made him happy, somehow, even hopeful. It was an odd feeling for the Nakajima to feel, it didn't quite make sense for him to feel such an emotion; alas, everything was different now, from his outlook on life to his emotions, even how he interacted with people; they were all different and it seemed these changes were brought about with Emiri's disappearance.

Why?

A team was assembled, they weren't all of Yukigakure's finest but they were the best bet for this mission. The objective was simple, discover what happened to Emiri. But nothing was as simple as it seems. At the gathering place, Ryuunosuke had one tip to say, well order, more advise. "My best advice is two search parties, each with one Nakajima. If things get dicey, make use of our Cremation forms, probably a bad idea lighting a human torch in a probable Ice cavern, but that does make rescue a little more easier. Got it? Good."

SPECIAL ABILITIES USED:
Soldier-boy Blue Flame of the Nakajima
As a Nakajima, Ryuunosuke has the honor of learning the clan hijutsu' Haini no Jutsu [Cremation Technique], in doing so, he displayed flames in the color of Blue. Aided by using Katon Jutsus in combat during the use of [Cremation Technique] had his chakra fuse with flames he created. Shifting the aesthetics of red to blue flames for all Nakajima/Katon Jutsus. As a result, he is a Nakajima of the Blue Flame.

Heightened Chakra Reserves
If Ryuunosuke knows one true strategy, it's to completely overwhelm his opponents. Through extensive training with his Nakajima Hijutsu, Ryuunosuke unlocked his true potential in chakra reserves, giving him extra fuel to fan his flames. His chakra reserves relationally doubled, meaning whatever his chakra level is at genin is doubled; heightening his reserves beyond other shinobi of similar skill compared to Ryuunosuke.


Blue Inferno
As a natural occurrence, blue fire is hotter in temperature compared to red and orange flames. Burns for Ryuunosuke up a degree of severity, 2nd-degree burn turn into third degrees, and so on. This temperature shift allows Ryuunosuke to burn open or cauterize wounds to unleash brutal blue infernos.

Atomic Spiral
Chakra is fuel and for Nakajimas, fuel is fire. Tapping into his increased reserves, Ryuunosuke's flames are entirely fed chakra, requiring no oxygen that powers the flames on his body while using the Cremation Technique. Due to utilizing his chakra reserves, the Nakajima's flames intensity boarders unnatural and the substance needed lacks any earthly component besides pure chakra. Because of this, his base cremation ability intensifies his flames to merely appear to go supernova, turning up the heat around him to substantially increase in temperature, melting snow and ice around him in a 10-meter radius (Distance is Set and will not increase with the Intense heat SA). Unlike most fire jutsus, Ryuunosuke's Cremation technique won't go out submerged underwater. Being sustained solely by chakra does allow the flames to exist in little to no oxygen areas, allowing his Cremation body to exist while submerged in water. This level of mastery within a Blue Flame is indicated by a blue-violet gradient hue, overwriting the complete blue aesthetic that a typical Blue Flame has on both clan-specific and universal Katon. Appearing as a spiral of multiple colors, the Nakajima's flames exist on another level, but where he stands on the totem pole is now unknown. [Imagawa Takumi]

Takumi hadn't ever cared much for village politics, though he was smart enough to keep tabs on major happenings, such as the leader of Yukigakure suddenly leaving with another quietly taking her place. Not that it bothered him too much, no matter who sat at that position, he'd one day replace them. What did surprise him was that not even the high command knew what had happened to Nakajima Emiri. Takumi had assumed that the story of the expedition was just a coverup for the real thing, but according to their briefing it really was what had happened, and now a team was being sent to investigate her last known whereabouts.

Because of the nature of this mission, Takumi had opted to keep Ran home, and judging from the others present, that had been the right call. Cave's were no place for a lynx to be, especially one that wasn't part of the Imagawa contract and couldn't dismiss itself from a perilous situation. While he waited for the blast crew to finish, he busied himself with checking over his gear, glancing up from his work when the other Nakajima spoke up with a suggestion before rolling his eyes and turning his attention back to his weaponry. So he was a noisy one, just like Taro. Great.

"The only thing we really know about these caverns is that the Yondaime disappeared into them and never returned. It’d be easy enough to get lost in there but she’s a tough lady; if she’s alive we’ll find her. I think we should proceed cautiously for now. A few more hours isn’t going to make a difference if she’s found a way to survive this long.” [break][break] The jounin looked around at the others to make sure they understood his instructions. It didn’t matter who wanted to be in charge. The fact was that as their senior, Hakurei was responsible for both their lives and the success or failure of the mission. "We’ll travel as a group.”[break][break] He looked over at the man from the blast team and made his way behind a big chunk of ice that was jutting up out of the snow. He had no idea what they would find once they got inside and that frightened him. Hakurei looked up at the clouded sky with shades of blue and pink and hoped it wouldn’t be the last time he’d feel the sun on his face. He hoped the kiss he’d left on his daughter’s forehead wasn’t a final goodbye.

[Nakajima Taro]

Taro didn't know the rationale of anyone present, he couldn't quite grasp the intricate reason for each persons involvement in this mission. The majority seemed to be from GOKA's cut and that part made sense to him, it was more or less their job to know or find out the unknown in this country. Takumi was probably the oddest amongst the group to see, but perhaps he was interested to find the downfall of a Nakajima. That or maybe he knew deep down how much this little mission mattered to the devil amongst them, he however couldn't help feeling a little surprised it was just him and Ryuunosuke from their clan here.

What're his reasons for being here? Did he feel the same way Taro did, he didn't know and ultimately couldn't know. He certainly didn't see eye to eye with those of that color. Blue was intolerance, it was a shade that felt it stood above the red and yet still groveled to the green and white. They had their pride and served their duty, but by narrative or directive always kept Taro on edge. It wouldn't help the first person to speak was that blue boy, he was a chuunin like Takumi and Taro. So what'd he think he was doing giving orders. Order for the two of them to split up, he'd like that wouldn't he? Perhaps there was more to this mission.

Red piercing eyes shifted from Ryuunosuke, then back to their goal the soon to be re-opened caverns. He'd grin with slight exhilaration, as the prospects of danger ahead encouraged him. To Takumi his silence likely spoke much louder than his typical banter, he was entranced by something likely relating to this mission. A hand shifting to the seal over his chest, a desire for violence and heat racing adrenaline through his body. There was something powerful enough to hold or kill Emiri, he yearned to test his metal against it. To be the hero of the Nakajima and save their once leader or to be the devil who avenged her death.

Gritting his teeth a thin wisp of black smoke would trail from his teeth and disperse to nothingness along the sides of his cheeks. He'd take deep breathes to calm himself then turn his attention to Hakurei. "Yessir!" He'd reply boisterously, before giving a very passionate salute. He was quite excited, so much so his own rush completely phased out the blast of the demolitions team. His attention barely perked by the destructive display, as he'd look back to Takumi after the disaster. "Talk to me, I don't wanna lose you in all this silence." He'd gest to his teammate, as he'd feel the subtle chill that most their 'team' would be quiet like the Imagawa.

As the team stepped back and prepared, all considering their options for approach once the ice was broken, the blast team set to work. They laid seals and some more physical bombs around the radius of the ice, alternating for the purposes of applying different levels of force. They had set up beams to support the cavern and stop it from collapsing when the explosion finally went live.

One of the blast team began a countdown. Five, four, three... The team all moved back behind their own barriers and covered their ears. The explosives lit up, rattling the whole of the cavern. Loose shaved ice and ash rained down from the ceiling above the team, but the movement settled after a few seconds. As the stillness of the cavern returned, the group was able to look out at the passage in front of them. It was a large hole in the ground and it seemed to descend incredibly deep into the dark. Though it wasn't exactly straight down, it was still fairly vertical.

To Asa and Takumi, it looked almost like an animal's burrow.

That would be an idle thought, though. It was time for the exploration to begin. The team could attempt to walk down the surface of the ice, or simply slide down it, though quick movement might be risky given that none of them could yet see below.

However they decided to tackle the descent into the cavern, reaching them bottom would leave them submerged in the dreadful, quiet dark. The soft sound of dripping water came from above, icicles formed on the ceiling from the melting and re-freezing ice. It would be impossible to see in the low light without using a material or performing a jutsu to light the way, but one could easily feel along the walls.

Eventually, they would come to a split in their passages, caverns eaten into the ice in two different directions. Would they follow Ryuunosuke's advice and split up into groups of two, or would they stick with Hakurei's thinking and travel as a group? If they did split up, what would the group assignments be?

If they strained their hearing, the group could hear a very, very soft shifting in the leftmost cavern. It could easily be the ice settling, but it could be something else.

[Asa]

In the frozen cave, Asa felt a certain, familiar kind of fear. Before, the biggest threat was stumbling upon a sleeping bear within a cave. But here? Asa was unsure what could be sleeping below the ice. In her core she knew that something ancient must be awaiting them, to have taken Nakajima Emiri and her team. Something more powerful than a mere bear. 

"I agree with Yuki Hakurei," Asa said, her voice low. "If there are threats within this ice that could stop the previous team, there is little chance that in pairs we would prevail. We would likely be overwhelmed faster. If necessary, I can scout ahead and report back details."

The ice here grew up and down the ceiling in a way that implied a thaw and a refreezing. All but impossible this deep into the ice, even at the time of year. Was this the Nakajima woman's doing? Her ears picked up the sound of something moving, and immediately her scythes were in her hands. 

She crossed her fingers over her eye, awakening the power sealed within the byakugan. Whatever was there, she would see it through the icy walls. 

"Something is there," she said, voice low and serious.

Sure, he felt like a fool wearing it but the protection it could potentially offer against genjutsu would be completely worth it, if they were to run into such a thing. [break][break] "All right”, Hakurei spoke as the fog cleared and he rose to look down the tunnel. "Easy does it.” He activated tree climbing and began walking across the surface of the ice. That combined with his shoes which allow him to not slow down on slippery surfaces should allow him to reach the bottom of the tunnel without slipping too much. [break][break] "Can we get a little more light?” He asked. Surely, one of the Nakajima had a way of illuminating the path ahead. It seemed they had already come to a fork in the road; Of course they had. He still believed they should stick together. The jounin had already made his opinion clear on splitting the group and he expected everyone to follow his lead once they had decided on a route. [break][break] He listened hard at the pass and he could hear something shifting in one of the tunnels. He looked to Asa, not for her byakugan but for her experience in the tundra. Had she ever heard a sound like this before? He raised a finger to his lips to quiet everyone else. "What do you think?” He valued the input of his fellow clanswoman highly and would lead them down whichever path she advised. [break][break] He shuffled closer to Ryunnosuke. "Can you leave a small mark at the mouth of the tunnel we chose? That way we know where we've been.” He was sure the Nakajima could handle this task. Maybe he could burn some sort of sign into the ice? Nothing too extreme, he hoped. [break][break] Hakurei would make his way to the front with Asa and begin making his way forward as stealthily as the situation allowed. "What is it, Asa?” he asked.

Well, there goes the sanity. Ryuunosuke thought as he drew his blade from it's sheath. He stood unfazed by the explosions, it was controlled, contained, prepared. But when the ice settled, only darkness coveted the ground, A hole? Both Asa and Hakurei moved forward into the darkness, with a blank expression, the Nakajima stepped forward as brown hues converted to bright azure flames. He began running before sliding down the ice, rapidly following the two. Hakurei asked for a light and the Nakajima now sliding past him responded. "Isn't that why we're here?"

As soon as ice wasn't under him, the Nakajima erupted into intense and right azure and violet flames. Possibly the closest any Blue Flame came to being White. Ryuunosuke landed in the most open space of the cavern, waiting for additional directives from his superiors before reaching a singular arm up, letting his body come back while his arm acted like a miniature sun. "Well then, if something is there, take it out, you aren't my superior for nothing." The Nakajima stated, a hint of annoyance in his voice as he started to walk forward.

Hakurei's directives came in, Ryuunosuke looked at him. "Village symbol is our bread crumb marker." The Chūnin stated out loud, hoping everyone had that understanding, "What next, holding my light is stronger and more draining than normal."

DESCRIPTION:
The hiijutsu of the Nakajima clan. This technique allows the user to turn their body into living fire, making them immune to physical attacks. Every inch of the users body becomes fire, or if they prefer just one part. The user is able to absorb natural fire, not created with chakra, to heal themselves and restore chakra. The drawbacks to this technique being that it limits the user to using only Katon or non-elemental jutsus. It also makes the user more susceptible to Fuuton jutsu, which feeds the fire and forces the user to burn through their chakra, with powerful Fuuton attacks causing the body to detonate and expel a massive amount of chakra.

[Nakajima Taro]

The red-eyed shinobi watched eagerly, but restrained himself out of discipline. This was definitely not his ground to call the shots, so he'd approach the hole as the others had. Peering down into it to try and see how deep it went down, he raise one fist in front of him. An orange and red hue of light igniting just around his fist. He'd not immediately get too much use though, as Ryuunosuke raised to the front and ignited himself than left his arms a blaze gave Taro a cringe.

He didn't like being out done and an shown up, but this didn't feel like the place to impress. A candle flame lit a room, so his fist torch would suffice. It was awkward how the highest ranked took lead, but physically before vocally. Maybe the two were concerned for the chuunin. To Taro though they all had equal responsibility to give their lives for each other. Best leave the torches in the front, at least until something like the inevitable split happened.

Using tree climbing to ease the descent as well as his taijutsu prowess to most efficiently scale down. Taro kept to the middle of the group his burning hand held high to illuminatethe whole group. [Imagawa Takumi]

The most senior of the group spoke up shortly after Ryuunosuke, drawing Takumi's gaze away from his equipment temporarily as he responded. The older male's logic was far more sound, even considering the Imagawa's penchant for working alone: they had been gathered together for a reason, to split up would be to cut down on their strength unnecessarily. He nodded his head practically imperceptibly, yet again turning his attention to his various pockets and scrolls only for his attention to be ripped away by a familiar, yet irritating voice. Instinctively, the Imagawa shot back at Taro.

"Quiet, you fiery idiot. More silence means less ash you have to dig out of your ears. To hear important things."

Takumi wasn't blind to the irony of the situation, but... he just couldn't help himself. Ignoring Taro didn't even necessary guarantee that he'd stop talking, so it was best to jab back in hopes that it got him to zip his lip. Thankfully, it seemed that the blasting crew was just about ready, and after a short countdown the way forward was made clear. While not taking the lead himself, Takumi didn't exactly wait for everyone to get moving, taking up a position just a few meters behind Hakurei and following him down. Like most everyone else, he decided on a slow approach down the cave, utilizing the tree walking technique to prevent himself from sliding on the ice. He noted how easily Hakurei gave commands to the rest of the group, his request for light and a mark being answered without question.

While the jounin consulted with Asa, Takumi managed to get a glimpse of the look Taro gave him, and without missing a beat, he simply shrugged. Clearly the two in front knew something they didn't, and while he could sense his teammate's discomfort, he wasn't about to compromise their mission just to coddle Taro. Wherever Hakurei led, Takumi would follow, for now.

Utilizing the byakugan, Asa looked through the ice, down into the further depths of the caves. While it allowed her to see through objects, the low light was still mildly troubling. Still, she could see well enough to tell- there was something up ahead. Many somethings, in fact. The walls of the cavern were thick with the inky shapes of skittering creatures. And these creatures were approaching. It seemed the conversation had alerted the inhabitants of this gave to the shinobis' presence.

They seemed to move relatively quickly. If the group did not move just as quickly, whatever it was would be upon them soon. Asa would have to relay the information available to the team quickly and they would have to make a choice on how to approach the situation.

Would they stand their ground in this opening and attempt to face what was approaching, setting up preparations for the confrontation? Would they rush ahead into the cavern in front of them and attempt to meet these foes head-on? Or would they go down the second cavern path and attempt to run away from the pursuing beings?

The sound of movement drew closer. The scrape-scrape-scrape of dozens of legs on ice, almost deafening in the enclosed space.

Act fast, driven by survival instinct.

[Asa]

Asa's scythes twirled in her hands, and she deactivated her demonic eye. She didn't need to see through walls any longer. She knew what was coming towards them, and they needed to act as soon as possible. She was ready to hunt such beasts, but were her compatriots? She did not know their capabilities very well, bar those of Yuki Hakurei. 

She was not a leader by trade, but she was the one with the information. 

"Large beasts come towards us," Asa said, and pointed one scythe in the direction she saw. "Things with many legs, but the bodies of flat serpents."

She only knew what serpents were from books. She had never seen anything like those... beasts in her life. But if it moved, Asa was confident that she could hunt it down and kill it. Her whole life was dedicated to this. She had a plan, but it was reliant on the group following her lead. 

"Nakajima Ryunnosuke, to me," She said. "Nakajima Taro, Imagawa Takumi- you will remain with Yuki Hakurei. We will draw their attention. You will follow up as needed. Yuki Hakurei, your ice sorcery can likely hold them in place, just as you did in the time before. We have little time, the hunt is upon us."

"Ryunnosuke, we focus on keeping them at bay," she said, and was already starting to head off to battle, her footfalls as silent as she could. 

She ran up towards the wall of the cave, hoping to ambush the creatures from above while Ryunnosuke came from below.

The kid- which was exactly what the Nakajima was despite being of legal age- was like a rebellious teen in a lot of ways; always hoping to prove he’s better than daddy. Hakurei had always wanted a son and although he would never admit it to Ryuunosuke, he would have been proud to be his father. This was not the time to continue their rivalry with this pointless power struggle. [break][break] They were all chunin or higher and Hakurei was sure that any of them could lead the team; Asa was proving that now. Spiders? Hakurei thought. He was a little confused by her description. Quick decisions needed to be made and Hakurei went with his gut. He’d follow her lead to the best of his ability as they began the hunt. She could see better than anyone else anyway. [break][break] "Got it." Hakurei knew exactly what jutsu Asa was talking about but it wouldn’t work for multiple creatures. Instead, he formed a quick series of handseals before a long trident of chakra infused ice appeared in his hand. He launched it down the tunnel towards the approaching spiders, using the chakra within to control the direction of the trident midair and his aim was true enough that the chances of hitting Asa on the wall were nonexistent. [break][break] When it got to the front of the crowd of spiders he would cause the trident to detonate, freezing solid anything within ten feet of the detonation and injuring anything within thirty feet. Considering the width of the tunnel, it was possible that the whole tunnel would be blocked. Freezing solid anything in the immediate vicinity of 10 feet, and realeasing a burst of hyper cool air and razor sharp ice shards capable of causing frostbite( or frost burns) and shredding unprotected flesh receptively to around 30ft though past that, stray shards might still do some damage .
