An had received a recommendation from her sensei to take the graduation exam. She was among the first in her class to take on the gauntlet after a few individuals failed earlier in the year. The entire exam was shrouded in mystery, those that failed did not speak of it and those that passed seemed to keep their lips shut about it. Some tradition had to be kept, it had to come as a shock to all. Though if An had been paying attention in her classes she might be successful.

She had been given instructions to arrive at the academy after hours, in her homeroom. There she was given a light sedative, before being blindfolded and tied up. It was a pretty significant rope tie between her legs and ankles, ensuring that she would not be able to wiggle out.

When An would wake she would find herself still tied - blindfolded and all - but laying on something somewhat soft. There were bird sounds in the distance, but otherwise the area was very quiet. If she used her nose she might be able to tell that it was moss that she was laying on and the entire surrounding area smelled damp...

But that was all the information that the girl would be able to gather for now. The test however, had already begun.

It was noon.

As An slowly came to her senses, she felt the softness of the moss beneath her, the sound of distant birdsong in her ears, and the chill of dampness in the air. Panic initially welled up inside her, but she took a few deep breaths to steady herself. Blindfolded and tied, she realized that she was in the midst of the graduation exam. The questions raced through her mind. What was the true nature of this test? What was expected of her?

Remembering her lessons, An knew that she needed to stay calm and use her wits. She began by testing the tightness of her restraints, flexing her muscles to see if she could inch closer to freedom. The ropes were securely tied. Gently, she tried to remember all she had learned, focusing on her senses. The smell of the damp moss indicated she might be in a forest, possibly near a river or a lake. But no matter how much she listened all she could hear was utter silence.

An, still blindfolded and tied up, knew she needed to find a way to free herself. Remembering the lessons she had learned, she decided to attempt the Nawanuke no Jutsu. With a calm and focused mind, An began to channel her chakra, which she had been practicing meticulously. She concentrated her energy on her hands, feeling the subtle flow of chakra within her. Carefully, she started to manipulate her chakra, trying to loosen the tight knots that bound her. As she continued to work her chakra into the knots, An felt a subtle change in the ropes. They began to slacken, ever so slightly. She maintained her focus, pouring more chakra into her hands.

After several moments that seemed to stretch on forever, she finally felt the ropes give way. An was free. She quickly removed the blindfold looking around not quite sure what to make out of her situation just yet.

An would overcome the very first test that she was given - to get out of the ropes that she had been bound in. A real life application, though in real life she might be in even more dire straits than she was in now. After all being captured and bound was not a place any shinobi wanted to be in. It was why it was being tested here. Could she do it? It seemed she could. One thing she could check off the list, or rather her invisible proctors could check off the list.

So she stood, and evaluated her surroundings. There was sunlight somewhere beyond the foliage, but it was blocked by the winding vines, leaves and large trees that had an eerie growth pattern. None of the trees were really pretty to look at, in fact they all seemed to give off the same energy.

As the girl stood, the birds in the distance seemed to turn quiet leaving her in an almost too eerie of surroundings. What would she do now?

She had no food on her, and no weaponry. Yet she would have to survive a full twenty four hours - she had been told that much at least. In time it would get dark, and there was no wood around where she stood that could be used for fire - it was too damp here.

She could go north, south, east, or west... And really inspect what was around her, hope for the best. This was not just a graduation exam, it was a test of ability and survival.

An took the path North, and started to move through it quietly. There was no small amount of woods in the area, and on occasion they would be less dense but otherwise the woods were daunting, and were thick enough to block out much of the sun. What was worse, was as An proceeded North the forest got thicker, denser until there was no sun poking through at all and she was left in an almost darkness pricked with an occasion light.

After an hour of walking - if she had been moving quicker it would have definitely taken less time - her feet would touch something rather wet. Upon looking down she would notice the beginnings of a bog like area. The water here moved but slowly, it was almost swamp like with the overgrowth. This was the trickle An had been hearing. But it was stagnant.

If she looked ahead what was revealed was a fairly large body of water, however there was no way to safely traverse it as the water was dark, murky and swimming in it was likely not a good idea.

How would she collect the water though and was it safe to drink?

The sound of a bird - a loud crow - could be heard vibrate the area, if An paid any attention to it she might find something worth looking at...

An ventured North through the increasingly dense and shadowy forest, her senses on high alert. She couldn't shake the eerie feeling that something was amiss in this unnatural place. As she continued her trek, the squelching sensation beneath her feet took her by surprise. Looking down, she realized she had reached a bog-like area with slow-moving water. The stagnant pool didn't appear to be safe for direct consumption.

An would search her surroundings for something to collect the water. Hopefully, there were large leaves and some vines nearby. If those were around she would use her skills and other possible nearby objects to fashion a makeshift container. She would tear a few large leaves and bound them together with the vines, creating a rough but functional water carrier. She would dip the leafy container into the murky water and allow it to fill up. After she would have collected some water, she would examine it closely, looking for any visible impurities or unusual colors. While she would still be wary of its safety, she would know that filtering and purifying it would be her next task.

Thought with the crow's call echoing through the eerie forest, An would decide to follow the direction from which the sound had come. She would move cautiously, her possible makeshift container of murky water would be carefully secured, and she would make her way through the dark and dense undergrowth. The sound of the crow would guide her deeper into the shadowy woods, and she would feel a growing sense of unease as she ventured further from the bog.

Finding a suitable leaf and some vine took some time, especially since many of the leaves appeared to be ripped up, chewed on, or were missing from the area entirely. It would take some expert climbing to find one on An's part but if she went through with it she would find the water to be very difficult to deal with. It was stagnant and not only was it not suitable to drink outright, it was brown... If that were not enough there were some kind of tiny bugs in it which would take a lot more than just filtering this water. It might be better in truth if she sought out another source of water.

But, at least she followed after the crow sound, if she did so well enough she would find herself a few steps out of the bog and at the base of a tree. The tree itself had a suspicious little mound underneath it that would require some digging. But it was a very shallow dig that could be done with ones bare hands. The question was whether or not An would risk doing so - it could be a trap after all, or not - it could be something helpful. What would An do in this case?

Though in the shinobi world such things might be rewarded with a trap, An would find her curiosity in a moment of true singularity - rewarded. As she dug she would find a canteen, one made of a fairly sturdy metal and once picked up she would find it full of a liquid. Of course, she would still have to examine the liquid - but if she did, she would find nothing but clear drinking water for her to consume if the need came. But there was no telling if she would get her hands on another such prize again, so she should perhaps be sparing with the reward she had found.

Something rustled in some bushes ahead, and if she paid attention she would find a hare jumping out. Though quickly disappearing upon seeing a human.

There seemed to be some kind of life on this island at least, perhaps she could try to hunt for food or look around further and see if she could find more mounds in the area. Granted, this could be a waste of time as well. This was a test of survival, after all, not how well An could find goodies in a forest.

Regardless, she had a few ways to go - more North, back South... And of course the unexplored East and West. Without a map though she had no way of knowing how far in any direction she was currently, and would have to rely on navigational abilities and instinct to travel.

The sun was just barely poking through the foliage overhead, but it had already passed high noon at this point, and was on the Western side of the sky if only marginally. An, however, would have to be able to see expertly through foliage to really be able to tell the difference...

There was always climbing a tree!

Notes: An finds a canteen filled with clean water! She better keep it safe. The forest proves itself to have some source of food for her if she desires to hunt. It's been a little over an hour and a half since she has woken up. Will she continue to explore? Climb a tree to try and get a better idea of what time it is? There are many options to go.

Academy students seldom were able to climb trees in the way that genin and those above them learned how to. But it was still a pertinent skill to get a higher vantage point, whether it was for battle or for other bits of information. In this case, it was An climbing to the very top of a sturdy tree she found. Which, finding a sturdy tree near a bog was quite difficult and cost her a bit of time. Then climbing the tree itself, as it was a rather tall tree, An would find, was also no small feat.

There was quite a nice breeze towards the top though as she finally mounted up on a sturdy branch near the peak - though that was not to say she did not step on a few cracking branches that might elevate her heart rate on the way up. If she surveyed her surroundings she would find that there was a rather large man made tower not far from her, in fact it was just a few clicks to the east. Though there was no telling if that place was even accessible as there seemed to be life no there and it was overgrown in vines from where she sat.

North, South and West however was a lot more forest. North she could not see anything but forest. West was forest and horizon... South was the same as West. But if she paid attention to the stir of breeze she would notice the smell of sea.

Climbing the tall tree had proven to be a challenging task, but An finally reached the uppermost sturdy branch. The view from this vantage point was expansive, and she took a moment to catch her breath, feeling the cool breeze at the tree's peak. The surrounding forest spread out below her, but it was what lay beyond that caught her attention. To the east, not too far from her position, stood a large man-made tower. However, it appeared to be abandoned and heavily overgrown with vines. Its desolate state made it uncertain whether it was accessible or if it held any immediate value for her survival.

The rest of her view presented an expanse of forest in the North, South, and West. However, the breeze carried a distinct smell that caught An's attention—the scent of the sea. It was a faint yet unmistakable hint that indicated the presence of an ocean or large body of water in that direction. An took a moment to consider her options. The forested regions held unknown challenges and potential resources, but the possibility of finding the sea to the South was intriguing. It could offer opportunities for sustenance and perhaps a more favorable environment for survival.

It was a trek down the tree, some rest and a trek more towards the South. An would attune her senses to the area around, and would find only the occasional rodent run by - be it a rat, a chipmunk or a rabbit - but nothing of other great note. The silence was perhaps the most infuriating part, in these dense woods it seemed not even a single bit of wind could reach An and she was left with an extensive amount of silence that could be maddening were it not for her activity of looking around for other bits and tools that she could use to survive the day... No tools like the water canteen came up, only the woods and rodents and in due time - a little over an hour - she would reach the Southern dune of the island, a small hill covered in grasses that once An climbed she would meet the swell of wind, and the sea beyond that with soft sand.

The sun was beaming here, with no protection from it in the surrounding area. Now An had to determine if she would come closer to the water and see if there was anything worth hunting, explore the shoreline, or go back into the forest...

Arriving at the southern dune of the island, An found herself greeted by the expanse of the sea beyond a hill covered in swaying grasses. The sun beat down, casting a brilliant glow over the area, with no shade in sight to shield her from its rays. Now faced with this new terrain, An weighed her options. The sea seemed to offer potential for hunting or discovering resources, while the shoreline enticed exploration. Alternatively, she could choose to return to the shelter of the forest.

Observing the stretch of sand and the waves lapping at the shore, she contemplated her next move. The sea might hold opportunities for food, whether through foraging or potentially spotting aquatic life for hunting. Yet, the forest was familiar territory and might offer resources she hadn't come across earlier.

Descending the dune, An ventured closer to the shoreline, where the waves met the sand. The sound of the crashing waves soothed her senses, a welcome change from the stifling silence of the forest.

I would know him in death At the end of the world Gurē An

An chose the shoreline and climbing over the dune with the grass she would wander down towards the shore and begin to wander it. As she did, there was nothing particularly exciting about the shoreline. It was clean, the sand was white or tan but not noticeably strange one way or another. A crab or two would scuttle by, but they were entirely too quick for An to simply try and catch with her bare hands... If there were fish, she would not see any in this shallow of water and there was no telling if they were edible or not either way.

As she walked, she would notice that with the heat her thirst would become greater and her energy levels would drag down as well. Without proper shade or hydration she would find herself struggling, most certainly.

Traveling along the shore did reveal a large tree trunk lodged in the sand some ways up, and some wooden structure around it almost like a makeshift hut. She could see what was inside of it, though it was covered in some flies and was not the most welcoming looking thing, it did seem to provide the potential for shade and a spot to contemplate her next move.

Perhaps there was something in her toolkit that would allow her to capture food, as quick moving food resources needed to be caught by surprise.

Notes: An moves along the shoreline, seeing way too fast of moving crabs along the way but no fish. The water is clear, the sand is nice. After about 30 minutes of walking she finds planks and a large piece of a tree trunk lodged in the sand on the beach. She could explore it, or continue forward.
