Akihiko didn't know what the signature was until it got close, then he realized it was a person. Which wasn't a good thing for him. He didn't want to necessarily clash with anyone in this windy little tunnel, but the chunin exams weren't meant to be 'easy' by any means, or so he had heard. Perhaps he could talk to whoever it was from attacking him if that was their intention. Not wanting to waste precious time, and backtrack he would keep walking forward. His heart rate increasing, he gripping both the torch in one hand and a kunai in the other. He kept going... Maybe the other didn't know he was here?

His breathing intensified a bit, he was prepared for the worst but hoped for the best. Because in some ways he was a hopeless optimist. He did things because his mind fueled him to do them with positivity even when he was terrified and his heart rate was on the brink of giving him a genuine heart attack. He continued on, perhaps stupidly. At least he had some weapons he could use, at least. He hoped that swinging the torch would be enough to ward off any would-be attacker.

Gifted with his clans dojutsu, even among clan members Akihiko can be seen as quite skilled with it, capable of utilizing both states of the dojutsu - sealing techniques within the four orbs that reside in his eyes, and seeing chakra from great distances (20m passively | 100m actively). At his level he is capable of sealing jutsu that top out at 'medium' in chakra usage, anything above this puts a high strain on him as he continues to work minimizing the strain his eyes put on his body and chakra supply.

Knowing ones strengths and weaknesses is important and as a boy who barely dabbles with the physical arts - as far as specializations go - he has taken a focus to knowing how to get out of harms way when in close quarters with those that might try to close the distance on him. He's more of a long range fighter and he keeps it that way. This ability allows him to completely out-maneuver genin who have not trained in a similar manner to therefore match his twitch reactions, furthermore he is able to go toe-to-toe with genin who have not trained like he has, though a trained chunin will find themselves with an advantage over Akihiko.

Extreme Vitality
Akihiko's bubbly and unreserved personality is not all for show, he seems to have a higher than average will to live, an abundant and generous life force. Capable of standing up in battle when a normal shinobi of his level would have been put down. Though, this is not to imply total immunity as much as he is capable of withstanding what others may not be mentally equipped to deal with, if healing or help does not come Akihiko can be taken out though it takes a greater amount of force. Additionally, Akihiko needs less rest after all battle or rigorous activity to fully recover and go again.

Enhanced Chakra Reserves
If Akihiko's vitality alone was not enough, he was also born with an unnatural amount of chakra. To fit his reckless personality, and fighting style he is able to spit out jutsu at an alarming rate without tiring out. Like the annoying brat that he is, he seems to go on and on seeming to be ready to take on the whole world if he so chooses.

The thudding of the footsteps came to a peak, another light finally revealing itself in the last few moments before the source of the noise rounded the corner. A girl sprung out into view, skidding to a halt a few meters ahead of Akihiko. She had the same striking, orange hair that he did and she was wearing essentially the same getup as the Kumo genin, including the bag slung over her back. Unlike Akihiko though, she was covered in a thin sheen of sweat, with only a torch in her right hand. Before her body had even come to a complete stop, the girl dipped into a combat stance, knees bent with her free hand balled into a fist and held at the ready.

"OI! Who the hell are you?!" Definitely a rhetorical question as the fist pointed in Akihiko's question turned to a pointing finger. "Drop the bag and buzz off if you don't want to get pulverized!"

The girl's eyes stared intensely at Akihko's frame to see if he'd comply, her own body springing into action should he choose anything other than to do what she asked. Even something as innocent as trying to continue talking through would result in the girl launching an attack, darting forward to attempt a simple straight punch aimed for Akihiko's head.

Akihiko wasn't expecting someone to show up, well he was because he saw them, but he wasn't really expecting the forceful encounter. Drop his bag?!

"W-Wh-" He didn't get a chance to let anything out because the girl was hurling herself towards him. Were they not going to talk it out? Confused, but just with enough distance to actually take action, Akihiko would duck and bound backward. Dropping his torch from that point he would land a little ways away, beginning to focus chakra throughout his body. Once he landed, he would clap his hands together. A huge wind would be initiated with the clap in the area. The reason for his dropping his torch near the girl?

Well, it was to make sure that the torch fires - the one on the ground and the one she was holding - would intensify, and potentially burn her where they were closest. The wind was strong enough to also knock her off her feet if she wasn't careful... Though, as if that were not enough, the young red-head would toss a kunai at the girl into the wind hoping that it would meet its mark somewhere... Just enough to hurt her.

If the fires didn't go out from the wind, they'd be in luck, but mostly it would be her who was in luck as he could still see even if they did go out and she would be having a hard time following that.

Synoposis: Akihiko ducks to avoid the punch, jumping back and dropping his torch at the same time. He claps as he lands to initiate a powerful gale to knock the girl down, get the fire to heat up and get bigger to burn her and also as an added effort threw a kunai into the wind to try and get her somewhere on her body.

Blown Away!

The girl hadn't expected Akihiko to react so quickly, shock apparent in her eyes when her fist swung at nothing. She barely had enough time to steady herself before the clap rung out in the tunnel, a powerful gust of wind following immediately after.

"Gackh!"

The sudden wind was surprising on its own, but the girl didn't let go of the torch in her hand until she felt the hot sting of its flames along her arm. She didn't suffer any burns, but all of the shock culminated into her losing her footing. She tumbled backwards a few meters as the gust continued, rolling on the ground and only managing to scramble to her feet once the jutsu came to an end. Thankfully, the torches had managed to stay lit through all that, bathing the immediate area in light.

"A fighter huh?! That's fine, I don't mind a li'l feistiness from my punching bags..."

On that note, the orange-haired girl suddenly darted forward, this time sending chakra through her body with a technique to reach her maximum speed instantly. Her attack, while much faster this time, held the same complexity as before, simply attempting to close the distance before striking out with her elbow.

The fire remained and whilst he did not get the full desired effect she had been knocked over at least. Which gave Akihiko some time to prepare, for anything that might come - mostly changing his eyes from their standard blue to black. It was a bit more chakra, but in this case, he needed to be able to really see the girl in full detail as much as he could.

What Akihiko wasn't expecting was for her to get up and lunge forward THAT quickly, his eyes widened... The worst part was that he could see her in full detail. Nothing went unnoticed and yet he could not stop it. Managing just to barely bring his arms in a cross in front of him before getting elbowed squarely in his torso. It was only a quarter of a block before her arm slipped past the defense.

Aki tumbled back quite violently, letting out a few grunts and coughs on his way back. Managing to stop himself in a squat, his fingers gripping the ground as hard as possible.

There was no small amount of pain now in his whole body but especially where she had elbowed him. Slowly, very slowly the boy started to stand.

"Aw come on! We can be friends!" He tried to bargain.

"No point in fighting, it's not like fighting me will help you pass the exams."

Talk it out?

Even though landing the elbow strike took up most of the girl's momentum, her body slid forward another meter or so after Akihiko went tumbling. She steadied her stance and posture immediately, one fist forward with the other chambered at her waist. It had only been a very brief bout of physical activity, but the suddenness of it all left her breathing heavily. The coolness of the labyrinth after the burst of flames also had a unnatural effect on her physical condition, a strange cold sweat covering her body as she stared the Kumo genin down. It was hard to see with the uneven lightning, but even with the determination on her face, it was clear that her hands were trembling just a tad.

Slowly, the determination turned to a mixture of confusion and shock as Akihiko brought himself to his feet, not to launch a counter-attack but to once again try the diplomatic approach. The girl froze for another moment after that, her tough facade breaking down as she growled and stamped her foot in frustration.

"What the hell are you talking about!? Of course we're supposed to fight, why else would they put us all down here!?"

She stood up straighter as she ruffled her own hair with both hands, eyebrows drawing together as she tried to make sense of Akihiko's words. Eventually she seemed to calm down a bit, eyes narrowing as she eyed the bag that Akihiko carried.

"What... do you even got in there anyway...?"

It was unclear if she was fully leaning into the diplomatic approach at this point, but at the very least she seemed to be willing to talk a bit more.

Akihiko had to admit that he felt a small bit of relief when the girl stopped and straightened out from attacking him. That was a good sign, right? She was at least willing to talk.

"Well, I was thinking we just need to get out or survive the maze. Plenty of traps thus far," Not that he had much trouble with them but it was all thanks to his eyes. He could only imagine what a genin without special eyes would have to deal with. Eyes black as black stared at the girl inspecting her movements, noticing that she wasn't going back to the offensive. Still, he kept himself a little weary, a little defensive. Maybe because he was worried she would lose her temper.

"Some supplies, don't you have a similar bag?" He asked, staying in his spot so that she didn't think he was going to after her in any way.

"Say, say! What do you think of this idea? We team up, hm? Two skilled shinobi to get through the maze is better than one, yeah? I can see pretty far away and let you know if people are about to come upon us?" Perhaps it was foolish and a little silly, but Akihiko wasn't the type to just fight, he wanted nothing to do with senseless violence... An Omori through and through, wanting peace. The proposal was quite selfishly motivated, but at the very least Aki was being genuine in helping the girl out if she helped him out.

Shaky Alliance?

The girl clicked her tongue in annoyance when Akihiko gave his vague answer to the question of what was in his bag.

"Tch, yea I've got a bag on my own." She jerked a thumb to the backpack she was wearing. "I meant what exactly do you have..."

She wasn't all that concerned with getting that information though, especially as the Kumo genin propsed the idea of teaming up. The more he spoke, the more calm she seemed to get, though the irritation on her face never left. She dug her heel into the dirt for a few moments after the Omori was done speaking, the whirling of the cogs in her head almost audible as she eventually came to a decision.

"I... guessssss we can work together... for now. But if you try any funny stuff I'll beat your head in!"

She raised a fist up to accent her point before lowering it. She did seem to genuinely accept Akihiko's proposal to work together, and if her words weren't enough, she even turned her back on the Kumo genin to go pick up one of the fallen torches.

"Well Mr. 'See far away'? Any idea where we're supposed to go now?"

Akihiko stuck his lower lip out ever so slightly at the girls suggestion that he was somehow a cheat or that he would try something funny. He wasn’t really the traitorous type, wasn’t in his nature. Just like fighting wasn’t really for him either. Not that he couldn’t, but as was shown now he preferred the diplomatic road. Not necessarily out of cowardice but mostly because he was more of a talker and friendly dispositioned individual than a vicious fighter.

But, for now the girl seemed like she would fall on his side and two talents were better than one! She was a pretty solid taijutsu fighter it seemed so that would round out their team pretty well!

So, at her request Aki would look around with his eyes as they remained in their second stage. He would be able to see chakra signatures a lot further in this manner - more akin to someone with a sensory ability distance - and the boy stared focusing a bit to try and gather information on what was ahead and all around.

Though as he did this he would move slowly towards the girl and just around her to pick up one of the torches.

Endurance

In the end, Akihiko's decision to team up with the other genin would prove to be beneficial. She revealed her name was Tani Hikari once they were situated, also revealing that she was from Konohagakure. Travelling through the labyrinth together, Akihiko would have opportunities to strengthen their alliance or take advantage of her guard being lowered to eliminate her. Whichever he chose, he'd also eventually learn that Hikari had actually already eliminated another genin before running into him, pillaging all of his resources before eliminating him by forcing him to use his lifeline. Her bag included an assortment of things, including hard, stale bread, pemmican, 2 canteens of water, a lighter, and a whopping set of 20 shuriken.

It was good that Hikari had an ample amount of supplies as two days would pass by in the trial relatively uneventfully. That wasn't to say the maze was static, however. There were still traps to evade littered throughout, and the structure of the labyrinth itself changed periodically. The chakra walls Akihiko had noted before were actually a permanent fixture of the maze, randomly closing off paths while opening up other avenues as well. As random as it seemed though, the shifting tides of the maze were clearly a conscious effort, always keeping any participants that weren't already grouped together from meeting in combat. It soon became clear that this was primarily a test of will and endurance. How long could the genin last with no idea when the end would come?

Provided Akihiko hadn't given up by this point, he'd get a welcome change in pace on the start of the 4th day. A new path would make itself open to the Kumo genin, and his new ally if she was still present. Not a cramped tunnel like the ones he had no doubt grown accustomed to, but a more spacious square room. In the center of the room was a strange looking cube on a pedestal, and on the far side of the room was a large door with seals on it, clearly linked with the cube in some way.

Akihko was happy to know that his new ally was in fact an ally in real life that he might be able to be friends with once all this was done and over with. He was very much the type to make friends with all that he could meet, but it made it a lot easier when the villages were on good terms. The two would come to combine their resources to stay strong and survive the however many days they had left in the labyrinth. The time seemed to go on and on, but Aki never took advantage of her guard being down. He valued her companionship, and saw no reason to betray her when she had trusted him. He just, wasn't that kind of person.

So between the two of them, they had quite a bit of supplies which made enduring the maze a lot easier.

Aki would also help with any traps they might come across in the dark by noting them to his new ally since he could see them. Keeping them out of harm's way and for the most part also avoiding any other shinobi signatures.

Akihiko also knew how long this whole thing would last, and had shared with the girl how long they needed to survive in here, though the walls seemed to be opening and closing and some of the paths would repeat. So, in that regard, he was at some point certain that they were just stuck in here and there was no 'goal' to achieve or reach.

By the fourth day, it was getting boring and annoying. Though they had slept some which was good... A new path had opened that Akihiko had noted and he would lead his new ally into it out of sheer curiosity. It was a room! Which was very new and different!

"Hey, what's that?" The boy called out, approaching the cube with seals on it. He knew a bit about fuuinjutsu being that he had a bit of a focus in it alongside ninjutsu. Plus he knew how to seal things in his eyes, which really was telling of his knowledge of seals in general. So, he would inspect it.

"Check the door out, Hikari-chan? Might be a new path for us! Or a puzzle that would be cool!"

A Puzzle?

Through their time together, Hikari had come to fully trust the genin from Kumogakure, so much so that she barely gave turning her back to him a second thought when they entered the new room. With a torch in hand, Hikari investigated the cube alongside Akihiko, only leaving his side when he asked her to take a look at the door instead.

A closer look at the cube revealed that it was more than just a simple geometric shape. It was about half a meter long on each side, and while most of the faces were smooth, two of the sides had a hole on each of them. The holes were about the size of a fist, going all the way through and meeting inside the cube. The seal markings seemed to be coming out from the holes, anchoring the cube to the pedestal, with a different set of seals on the other faces matching the ones on the door.

"Yup! I don't know what any of this means!"

Hikari had looked over the seals on the door herself for only a few moments before returning to Akihiko's side, also investigating the far more interesting cube with her ally. She put her face right up to the cube, dangling her fingers just outside one of the holes with a mischievous look in her eye.

"Hey, dare me to stick my hand inside?"

Akihiko inspected and then soon enough came to the conclusion that there was not a lot to look at that he could recognize. But the holes in the two sides did beg a question to arise in his little head that had very little thoughts and questions in general. When Hikari wandered back up having declared that she didn't understand the door at all, and then asked him to dare to put her hand inside, Akihiko grinned. Maybe this whole thing required two people? What if they could get out early? The challenge might not have been clear, to begin with... To survive for seven days, he knew the event was be seven days, but what if there was a way if one teamed up to get out early? That would have been the ultimate trick! And so cool too!

The boy bit his lower lip.

"Okay! I dare you!"

He would wait for the right moment then and wait for Hikari to stick her hand in before he would follow suit on the other side. It was a bit reckless most likely for them to be doing this with a very mysterious item, but it would be kind of cool if something happened that progressed them further in the round!

Team Battle

Hikari snickered quietly when Akihiko went along with the dare she proposed, her left hand inching towards the cube before suddenly thrusting her whole hand into the hole. She grunted in surprise when she saw Akihiko do the same thing with his right, the grunt turning to an outright yell of shock as the cube reacted to their actions. As soon as both hands were in the cube, the seals that came from the holes retreated from the pedestal and wrapped themselves around the genin's wrists, the cube even shrinking a bit to firmly lock around them. The inside of the cube hollowed out just a bit as well, giving their hands a bit of room to move around and touch each other, but for the most part the two genin were effectively handcuffed to each other by the cube.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOI-"

The genin from Konohagakure immediately began shouting her objection to the situation, arm heavily tugging to free her left hand from its prison, though she immediately stopped as the other seals activated as well. The lines connecting the cube to the door snapped, fully freeing the cube from the pedestal and causing the doors to open, revealing the next room. Even if Akihiko wished to be cautious Hikari would do no such thing, tugging her ally along with her if necessary in order to dash into the new area.

Like the room that housed the cube, this cavern in the labyrinth boasted a much higher ceiling and it was even bigger horizontally as well. There were plenty of torches attached to the walls all around, but what was the most noticeable was the fact there were already others present in the room. In the center was someone who was clearly an exam proctor, sporting standard shinobi attire with a Kusagakure headband, and beyond them was another pair of people. Their statuses were just as obvious, both of them wearing the same plain clothes given to the exam participants with their wrists attached with a cube as well. They both appeared to be males and their postures were somewhat slumped and defeated, though they straightened up just a bit upon Akihiko and Hikari entering.

"Well it's about time."

The mystery genin on the left spoke up, a second look revealing it was the other participant he had met in the Hummingbird's Forest. The Kusa shinobi in the middle raised a handseal which shut all the doors to the room, speaking up in a commanding voice to cut off any further speaking.

"Enough. You've all done well to endure for this long, but too many participants remain in the labyrinth. This will be a way to more quickly weed out stragglers and accelerate those who show potential. The four of you will have a no-limits battle here and now, ending only when one party verbally surrenders. This means that if your partner surrenders, even if you do not, you will both lose the battle. The other duo will be named the victor and be allowed to pass the rest of this round prematurely, while the losing duo will be forced to remain in the labyrinth for the rest of this round's duration. With that being said, would either party like to surrender now?"

The proctor looked at each of the duo's nonchalantly, seeing if any of the 4 genin would like to back out now. The other duo seemed to be ready to do battle, and Hikari raised her fist to Akihiko, determination in her eyes.

"You better not surrender! If it seems like you will I swear I'll knock your jaw off first myself!"

If Akihiko agreed to not surrender straightaway, the proctor would then signal the start of the battle.

A very clear, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" came out of Akihiko's throat mostly in tandem with his partner's shouting about what it was that he was doing. No amount of flailing allowed them to get out of the situation though, none. And for a moment, he thought that they had made a huge mistake, so huge that perhaps they were going to die? But no, nothing so dramatic. Instead, the door opened and Aki found himself getting dragged across the open stage into a new room. Where two individuals already stood.

Closer inspection, it was a boy he had met before in that forest.

Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the situation was all that great. They were going to have to battle. And, frankly, Akihiko wasn't all that keen on battling. He wasn't keen on having to get through the next three days in the labyrinth either though. So, perhaps duking it out with little to no consequence - death or otherwise - would be okay?

So, when the girl threatened him he lifted one hand at her and waved.

"I won't surrender, I promise!" He huffed with a slight pout, before looking back to their opponents.

Both sides would agree to the terms, and well there wasn't a lot left to do, it was time to fight. So Aki would barrel forward at the duo in front of him. He only had one fist free but that was enough if Hikari used her own. Plus any jutsu would certainly have Akihiko utilizing his dojutsu.

Gifted with his clans dojutsu, even among clan members Akihiko can be seen as quite skilled with it, capable of utilizing both states of the dojutsu - sealing techniques within the four orbs that reside in his eyes, and seeing chakra from great distances (20m passively | 100m actively). At his level he is capable of sealing jutsu that top out at 'medium' in chakra usage, anything above this puts a high strain on him as he continues to work minimizing the strain his eyes put on his body and chakra supply.

Evasive Maneuvers
Knowing ones strengths and weaknesses is important and as a boy who barely dabbles with the physical arts - as far as specializations go - he has taken a focus to knowing how to get out of harms way when in close quarters with those that might try to close the distance on him. He's more of a long range fighter and he keeps it that way. This ability allows him to completely out-maneuver genin who have not trained in a similar manner to therefore match his twitch reactions, furthermore he is able to go toe-to-toe with genin who have not trained like he has, though a trained chunin will find themselves with an advantage over Akihiko.

Extreme Vitality
Akihiko's bubbly and unreserved personality is not all for show, he seems to have a higher than average will to live, an abundant and generous life force. Capable of standing up in battle when a normal shinobi of his level would have been put down. Though, this is not to imply total immunity as much as he is capable of withstanding what others may not be mentally equipped to deal with, if healing or help does not come Akihiko can be taken out though it takes a greater amount of force. Additionally, Akihiko needs less rest after all battle or rigorous activity to fully recover and go again.

Special Ability #4
Enhanced Chakra Reserves
If Akihiko's vitality alone was not enough, he was also born with an unnatural amount of chakra. To fit his reckless personality, and fighting style he is able to spit out jutsu at an alarming rate without tiring out. Like the annoying brat that he is, he seems to go on and on seeming to be ready to take on the whole world if he so chooses.
