Kokoro is a tall, well-built man with brown skin and green eyes. He has dark hair, typically assorted in a messy array of jaw-length dreadlocks. His locks line the corners of his face, and one almost always dangles between his eyes. His locks are decked with stylized, aqua-blue cowrie beads. He possesses a fairly strong constitution with a slender yet toned frame. His facial features are smooth and yet piercing. He can always be seen wearing distinct black framed, lime green shaded glasses.
His attire consists of a black, long-sleeve shirt and black pants which extend down to his black, steel-toe combat boots with tan shoe laces, stylized with blue, gray and teal metal loops at the upper heel. He also wears black fingerless gloves with tan metal plates on the backhand, designed like a masked face. The most distinctive part of his wardrobe is Ōji’s oversized scarf, which replaces what most shinobi opt for a flak jacket. The large scarf is made of a durable silk and covers the majority of Ōji’s torso and is blue, gray and teal in color. Several hidden pockets and pouches are present in the scarf that can be used to store and quickly access weapons and other supplies.

A man tormented by a dark past which he is trying to escape and the constant strain of his duties as a shinobi, Mizuchi Ōji is a complex individual. He is a man of deep-seated, unrelenting fury dictated by the crappy hand he was dealt in life and his idea of how life should actually be lived. He is angry at the world with no finite point to focus that rage upon. While he is steadfast and unyielding in his pursuit of life, he is also very much a man of contradiction. Despite yearning for the natural human needs of love and family, he also abhors mankind for its warring, self-destructive nature. This is all because he had his life basically laid out for him from birth but never asked what he actually wanted from this life. He, therefore, has had to throw away the life which others set out for him to live a life predicated on his own self-reliance and create his own path.
Ōjis characterization presents itself in three layers. The first is the one is that which most become accustomed to when dealing with Ōji on a day to day basis: The whimsical medic. This is a surface level facade presenting a gentle and warm personality that augments his intelligence and willingness to help his fellow man. Most of the time, he is a soft-spoken, polite, and caring man who uses honorifics when addressing everyone, including subordinates and enemies. He rarely shows any signs of panic or distress, and has a great sense of duty. With his grace and kind manners, he lets others know quietly that while he may be soft, he is not to be taken lightly. Despite his gentle nature, several shinobi and even criminals fear him due to his reputation. It is in this form that he does most of his work, healing the injured, nursing the sick and making strides in discovery for Kiri’s Turtle Defense Unit. During these times, he is gentle, peaceful and patient. Always smiling, but the smile never makes its way to Ōji’s eyes. Anyone with the right level of emotional intelligence can see that something lurks, just beneath the surface.
Beneath this initial layer, a truer essence of Ōji rears it’s ugly head: the agent of destruction. Within this layer, He is deceptively cunning and fixated on victory at any cost. This is him falling back on the sins of his grueling training and years of assassinations. This personification is only shown when Ōji or someone close to him’s life is threatened, a situation is too serious for him to continue his facade, or if an would be assailant pushes his patience too far and his restraint falters. Some would refer to this as Ōji’s true self, the Black Snake in all his glory. However, while it is not a facade like the prior layer, it does hide certain aspects of his heart. During these times, Ōji’s normally warm nature becomes cold and distant, allowing him to contemplate taking the life of his opponent and even take vicious, bloodthirsty actions in the midst of it all. Within this persona, he is unrelenting, unforgiving and will not stop until the threat has been incapacitated. This is the embodiment of unyielding rage. But is this just another shinobi reveling in violence or is this all just a cry for help ?
Underneath all of these walls, stands an utterly tormented and lonely being, within this state, and it is rarely shown when he is in the company of others. He carries a deep longing for love but also possesses an understanding that he must walk this world alone. He is simply a man who has lost everything and wishes to put any positivity he can back into the Earth until he fades from the annals of history. In his life, he has lost both a great many friends and his only family. In several instances, people he trusted have either betrayed him or been killed for simply knowing him. This is reason he hides behind either extreme aloofness or uncontrollable rage to either ignore or scare all possible interactions away from himself, leaving him to his own solitude. This is the path he’s chosen. This is the state of Ōji. Overall, though he does find solace in the many books he reads and the constant questions he attempts to answer with his research, study and experiments. One day this man may find people to free him from the shackles of his torment.

◀ HISTORY ▶ Life is a fickle thing. One who leads the life of a thief or a murderer may live to a ripe, old age and die peacefully in their bed. On the other hand, a beautiful and innocent, little girl may die screaming in agony from a rare, unexpected ailment. Who can know the will of the gods. But in this world, you can’t choose the card you are dealt. You can only play your hand and hope to make a good play.
Mizuchi Ōji was born on a misty, winter night to a pair of battle hardened shinobi during the rising tension between the Sandaime Mizukage and the Mizu no Kuni Daimyo. This was a time of unrest and anxiety. The stubble of war was already rekindling as the winds of broken bonds and shattered alliances began to fester throughout the land. While all of this occurred in the background, Ōji lead a mostly normal life as a youth. Being taken care of by his family and being kept by a nanny any time both parents were away for a mission or operation. His family began to call him ‘Ox’ during these times due to his stubborn nature. A few years after his birth, Ōji’s parents were blessed to have a baby girl. Hime was absolutely beautiful and a delight to her father and mother. This delight extended to Ōji, loving his sister above all for her purity and peaceful spirit.
From the time of his youth, Ōji found love for books and learning. He read obsessively. He wished to learn as much as he can and read as much as he can. About to history of the village, the Land of Water, politics, shinobi, ninjutsu. Whatever material was available to him, he read. Especially once he joined the Ninja Academy. Reading about different jutsu, human anatomy and physiology, psychology, geology, the application of the maths and arts. Ōji’s test scores were remarkable. He also learned of his aptitude with precise chakra control as well as gaining skills in kenjutsu. He was also abreast of the current political landscape of the ongoing Cold War, moreso than his parents. Giving them painstaking details on the tensions, any time they were on vacation from the field. He was simply elated to be able to embrace so much knowledge. He would impart his knowledge to his peer and help them mend the rift between the Mizukage and the Daimyo. Knowledge was power, after all. Oh, the optimism of children, first formulating a dream.
Optimism never lasts. The year Ōji graduated from the Academy & became a full-fledged shinobi, the Mizukage was assassinated and the Kiri Civil War was underway. Not too long after being assigned a Jōnin sensei and a team, Ōji was on the battlefield testing his mantle against ninja twice his age with so much more valor and experience. It was bitter work but he survived and persevered through the years of battle. These battlefields were the place where Ōji’s moniker, The Black Snake, was coined. Sadly, his parents weren’t as lucky as he was. His father died in a raid near the Daimyo’s Palace and his mother was killed in an ambush a few months later, leaving Ōji responsible for their estate and as the guardian of his sister.
As the blood-stained waves of the civil war began to subside, Ōji was advanced to the rank of Chūnin due to his accolades in the field of battle. Having killed multiple assailants in the heat of battle, as well as saving one of his comrades, he was seen as a potent talent amongst his peers. His keen intellect and masterful chakra control began to lead him towards iryōjutsu, in which he had notable natural talent, to aid and help his comrades rather than focusing solely on slaughtering the enemy. After Yuki Nanami was crowned the new Mizukage, the spearhead sharpened and thrusted directly into the heart of the Daimyo’s palace, securing a victory. The war was finally over. Ōji, freshly promoted, and eager to enjoy a much needed break, would return home to terrible news. His sister somehow contracted some unknown, incurable disease that simply baffled the doctors and researchers throughout the village.
For months, while trying to doctor on and take care of his ailing sister, while researching the disease and its effects, he also began draining all the resources and equity from his family’s estate to send her to specialists throughout the Land of Water. Many sleepless nights and grueling days lead to a breakthrough in Ōji’s research of his sister’s condition. He discovered the root of the ailment and began to theorize possible ways to counteract it and begin treating it but sadly, he was called back into action to aid the village as the Sanbi had been released and had began rampaging. He was forced to leave one obligation to deal with the other. He would save his sister after helping his comrades with this shit-show. As he arrived to the scene, Ōji quickly discovered that it wasn’t much that he could do. He remained until the beast was sealed helping on the back line, supporting the front and helping and helping the injured and wounded. Ōji saved many lives on this day. After the monster was sealed and all the dust cleared, Kiri found itself, once again without a leader and the village vastly scared by the rampage. But Ōji had other matters to attend to.
The world is cold and twisted in its workings. As Ōji saved lives on the battlefield as a shinobi, he lost the only life he truly wished to save, as a brother. The ninja came home to witness the horrid scene of the twisted cadaver that used to be the once beloved Hime. He had failed. He’d failed his parents, his family, himself and most of all, Hime. This completely shattered Ōji’s world. Everything that he worked for, strived for and lived for was now gone. All he had now was an empty house, a body to bury and piles of books: useless knowledge.
After all this, Ōji began to drown himself in his work, in his practice. His work became his only aim, more deliberate, more precise. Now in the field, he became more creative in the practice of his medical ninjutsu, using his knowledge of anatomy, physiology, science and chakra to remarkable effect healing and outright protecting comrades, while dismantling enemies down to the molecule. This is the time he solidified his moniker throughout the ninja world. Now devoid of family and compassion, Ōji’s only purpose was to be a shinobi. A killing machine to his enemies and a savior to his comrades. When he wasn’t on a mission, Ōji continued to venture into the study of poisons, medical procedures, special cases and cures for multiple diseases, discovering more than many would expect and gaining more questions than even his highest superiors could answer.
Over the years, while Ōji continued to dazzle his higher ups with his abilities, the village was still struggling with stability. He had seen the office of Mizukage trade the hand of three different keyholders. And with the Mizukage acting as the village’s Kage and the land’s Daimyo, it was to the upmost importance that it became solidified. As he took a permanent position in the Kiri Medical Corps as well as the Turtle Defense Unit, the beautiful Kaguya Minako would be rising to the office of Mizukage. It really didn’t bother Ōji one way or another who held the position but he preferred to not be on a sinking ship so long as he could help it. But this leader seemed to have at least a tad more sense than the previous two. This was a generally good time for the village as it began to fully reestablish itself. Through all this, Ōji continued to make strides discovery and practical application of medical ninjutsu, while helping to create new defenses and poisons for the village and taking missions in the meantime.
After the mysterious disappearance of the Mizukage, a new one was quickly chosen by the council, the adopted son of the previous. He was a younger man but he seemed to have a fire burning in his heart for change and advancement. He would lead the village to more stability, solidifying a concrete alliance with Yuki as well as marking the next Chunin Exams in Kirigakure, itself. During this time, Ōji was continuing to make his mark in the Medical Corps of the Village. During the Kiri Chunin Exams, Ōji was chosen for spearhead the Medical Team that synthesized the antidote for the Mizukage’s palytoxin, which was released to test in inspiring Chunin during the Exams. He was highly commended for this due to the difficulty and the specificity. After accomplishing multiple high risk procedures over time, which saved lives at key times, by himself, Ōji was placed into position as the new Head Medic of the Kiri Medical Facility placing him over all medical and scientific operations within the village and throughout the Land of Water. Taking the place of an unethical predecessor, Ōji fixed many work practices associated with the previous leader, working directly with the Mizukage to ensure that nothing underhanded or unapproved was going on anywhere within any of his facilities or through any of his staff. After this, Ōji streamlined the processes of the Medical Corps creating better communication systems and protocols to better distribute duties during emergencies as well as more regularly save lives earlier to avoid lasting or more dramatic effects to their patients. Not to long after this, Ōji finally received a promotion to the rank of Jōnin showing more than enough skill and understanding for the rank to be extended.
Now as the Head of the Kiri Medical Corps and a freshly minted Jōnin, Ōji hasn’t lost a step in his research or stride in medical prowess or discovery. He remains working day in and day out and continuing in aiding the Turtle Defense Unit in experimental applications. Despite his professional success, he remains devoid of personal connection, friends or any interpersonal relationships at all, fully committed to his work as a shinobi and a medic. So he continues on his path, a false smile painted on his face.
◀ FIGHTING STYLE ▶Ōji’s usual approach is to initiate combat using decoys or clones to feel out his opponent, figuring out the extent of their techniques, skills, weapons, and tools, as well as calculating countermeasures. Even when caught by surprised, Ōji usually has defensive measures in order, just in case. Once he identifies an opponent’s weakness, he employs his combative medical prowess to power through his enemy’s defenses with chakra scalpels or debilitate their bodies with his poison-laced weapons, or one of his multitude of options, exploiting their weaknesses at every opportunity. If placed on the back foot, he will resort to using his sword skills or summoning reinforcements to buffer his offensive and defensive capabilities. He isn’t above retreating if the situation seems hopeless.

Medical Expertise
Ōji is a truly once in a lifetime talent as it applies to medical prominence, practical and theoretical application of medicine, healing, poisons and treatments. He has an acute knowledge of human physiology and anatomy. He is able to identify ailments at a glance and treat conditions many researchers and medics would deem extremely troublesome or complicated alone. He’s well-rounded enough to treat psychological damage, operate on nerve and spine injuries, and even synthesize complex antidotes for poisons most would consider incurable. He can also use his refined chakra control to perform even the most advanced medical ninjutsu, like the Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique, by himself in the field, without the need for cooperation or complicated formulas and yet still regenerate limbs or organs on his patients. He has used acupuncture to paralyze unruly patients or troublesome enemies. He is also talented enough with the Chakra Scalpel Technique to cut through defences and even disable opponents by severing their chakra pathway system connections.
Precise Chakra Control
Ōji’s chakra control speaks for itself. Able to perform multiple high level techniques subsequently without wasting any extra chakra or depleting his stamina, as well as being able to maintain these techniques for extended periods of time. His innate talent allows him to precisely gather chakra from any part of his body and use any of his techniques to its maximum potential with no wasted chakra or timing. Ōji expands his chakra control to the point that he is able to rapidly accumulate large amounts of chakra within his body without his enemies noticing. His level of control outclasses the majority of his peers.
Immense Intelligence
Possessing a keen intellect, Ōji is notably one of the most intelligent shinobi in the Land of Water. Through the study of ninjutsu, science, history, politics, and through the school of hard-knocks and experience, he has accumulated a well spring of knowledge that can be applied in and out of the field, as well as in and outside of combat. His knowledge has given him an innate understanding of the abilities of others or what happens when independent variables are entered into an equation. He can use his gathered knowledge to plan around an opponents' abilities by employing appropriate countermeasures. He is able to instantly deduce an impending technique simply from the hand seals. Outside of battle, Ōji has developed many methods of treatment and cures within his medical research, even being chosen for the team to synthesize an antidote for the Mizukage’s personal poison during the Chunin Exams. He has also shown a great aptitude for creation and invention, having created a number of devices and techniques to aid him in battle, in the field and with his medical practice.

A formidable combatant, Ōji strongly favors using swords, when forced to attack or defend in close quarters, which he wields with deadly proficiency thanks to his unique gifts and lifetime of training. He exhibits powerful strikes with equally impressive speed behind them. He can perform attacks with perfect precision, applying his medical knowledge to sever tendons or rupture arteries. He is highly proficient in combining swordplay with his other skills and instantly switching between any of them. With swordsmanship alone, Ōji is able to hold his own against kenjutsu experts and taijutsu masters.
Kiri’s Black Snake
Through years of shinobi training and pitched combat, Ōji has developed a considerable mastery in the art of stealth, combat, and assassination. He has repeatedly shown impressive skill in staying hidden and unseen while maneuvering towards his target. He can completely hide his presence, remaining undetected until he intentionally reveals himself. Even extremely perceptive and intuitive shinobi was caught by surprise. Ōji is able to fully conceal his chakra and move in complete silence and even effectively attack in zero visibility. He is able to move in on a target and execute them, leaving the scene with no evidence of his presence once so ever.
