Raika stands firm at the bow of the ship, though it's mostly to keep her seasick face from view of the other participants of the mission and maintain her stoic appearance that she'd started the mission with. The mission was a very strange one, with the waters rising and becoming more dangerous with the sea life apparently having been influenced by the weird chakra emanating from the meteorite. While the mission did not inherently involve actually doing any combat, they would be heading into unknown territory, and Raika already had her Byakugan activated in order to keep watch in the area around them, particularly underwater to try and make sure that they wouldn't be snuck up on.

Admittedly, her eyes sometimes strayed to the enemy shinobi from Kirigakure that she was taking this mission with. Yukigakure, while not currently an enemy to Konoha, was also becoming a little too chummy with Kirigakure lately, according to some vague reports about their activity near Kumogakure. Despite the reports having very few actual details that they might use to determine the extent of their alliance, it wouldn't do for Raika to be caught during the mission or immediately after the completion of the mission between two other shinobi. Still, for now at least, they likely would not risk the success of the mission to attack someone who was likely their current greatest asset for the completion of the mission. For now, most of her focus was reserved for the ocean. According to the previous trio that had done a mission to bring down the barrier, the wildlife was a serious safety concern, something involving an octopus. Eight arms was far more than two, and they needed to be prepared if any of them wanted to sink their vessel.

"Monsters below, danger ahead, and enemies at my back... Right where a Hyuuga should be..."

Hopefully, she'd muttered it low enough that the other two couldn't hear, and she'd done just a quick check on where the one named Yuzuki and the famed sword user Raimaa were at the moment she said it, just to make sure they couldn't catch her muttering under her breath. She was currently wearing her Himishi cloak, with the Hung Gar rings on her wrists and ankles, the cloak closed off so that all that could be seen of her clothing were her black combat boots and the Konoha headband loosely tied around her neck. Her black hair is flying out behind her, even with most of it pulled back in a tight ponytail to keep it away from her face. Although it wouldn't obscure her vision with the Byakugan, it was annoying to deal with it. Underneath, she's wearing her usual mission attire of a black tank top and dark gray coveralls, for once pulled all the way up instead of being pulled off and open to the waist.

DESCRIPTION:
[Decompression must be Completed.]Now that the water barrier has been eliminated, this team of shinobi has been assigned to delve deeper into the water zone and search for the ridge of the crater. Beyond this path and closer to the meteor, wildlife will become even more hostile and powerful, and the terrain will become treacherous to navigate, forming several river rapids and waterfalls under the assault of torrential downpours. Shinobi will have to somehow keep their vessel and themselves float through this chaos. Any civilians who have been left behind this close to the meteor's influence may have become a threat as well. After locating and mapping the path to the edge of the crater, shinobi are instructed to retreat.

Though, the same cannot be said of the prickling sensation upon her skin, quick side glances that the Konoha-nin keeps sneaking in her direction. Almost as if they're worried about her attempting to pull something on this mission, or perhaps, even after it.

Fortunately for them, she has no intention to. Though raised loyal to her village, she is by no means obligated to try and act upon whatever diplomatic relationships the countries currently have. At least, not without a direct command from someone higher up. And said higher-ups are far more concerned with ensuring the success of this cross-country operation than they are with sparking international conflicts.

In additional to that, she isn't even sure if she could take a Hyuuga down on her own. Much less one she assumes to be from their main branch, given the usage of the Byakugan. Her outwards appearance of an oversized hoodie, running shorts and a fishing rod paired with the far more menacing aura of the Yuki Jounin that accompanies them probably helps to sell her as the lesser threat of the bunch.

So many considerations that cross her mind, but none of them relevant to the problem that they face ahead. With fishing rod still rested upon her shoulder, she casts her gaze right out over the raging waters. Life hums strong underneath, echoing Isonami's song with twisted variations and notes. Since none of them seem to have drawn close to the boat just yet, she votes to hang back with the ship crew, offering assistance to steer the vessel through the rapids and chaos.

[Futago Raimaa]

Raimaa was already in her Light Armour, packing two swords. One wooden, one steel. One for men, one for monsters. After plenty of missions going out on boats, Raimaa had good sea legs, and so was not bothered too much by the rocking of the ship. She was glad to be with at least one person she knew though, because it was always nice to have friends. Funato got a pat on the head and a warm smile from Raimaa, before she turned to the Hyuga. Attempting to disarm some of this tension before it got in the way of the mission.

"Hey, did Yusaku get home alright? I know it was a few years ago but I've not gotten out of the house much to meet any other Hyuga" Raimaa would speak with a soft tone, one that did it's best to imply being friendly rather than mocking or trying to humiliate by bringing up that time they got caught spying on a foreign country and sent home like a naughty school boy.

She kept an eye on the surroundings as she asked, one hand on her swords and the other close to her bags of toys, in case anything came out to say hello.

The question about someone named Yusaku was a strange one. It sounded familiar, but she had the distinct feeling she'd only heard about him a little and had never spoken to him personally. This wasn't really anything out of the norm for Raika; she had been in Kawa for years, and when she'd returned to Konoha, many names and faces had changed, and some she never saw at all. Perhaps Yusaku had silently retired, or maybe he was gone in the dirt somewhere. She didn't know, and the best policy in this case was honesty, though it felt a bit strange for the most famous of the ninja in attendance to be dropping another shinobi's name. Judging by context clues, it sounds like someone she should know, perhaps because he was a Hyuuga? Not that it mattered, she'd never even met the clan head, likely because it could potentially end in somewhat strained political relations.

"Dunno, never met 'em. Could you please not distract me while I'm keeping a lookout? Thanks."

Raika's tone was perhaps a bit more informal than one would likely have addressed the usual legendary shinobi known the world over as the Pink Ghost, but she really was focused on trying to keep an eye out for any kind of monsters, literally, as they begin their approach towards land, and beyond that, the edge of the crater. Both are still just beyond the sight of her Byakugan, and just focusing on trying to look out for sea beasts is at least making her a little less seasick, since it gives her another thing to think about than the motion of the boat over the top of the ocean.

And then her Byakugan sees something far worse than the ship moving about, though it's only when she looks directly downwards. The sea floor seems to shift in her view, and she finds herself locking eyes, though indirectly, with a singular bulbous eye in the middle of the sandy bottom. It worries her immensely, but as long as it doesn't take interest with their small vessel-

But then there's more movement, and she can see that the sea floor itself is moving very, very gradually, almost too slowly for most people to see unless they were looking specifically for it, and she thinks this calls for a bit of panic to enter the tone of her voice.

"Guys? Company. 300 meters... directly down."

Even as she says this, she's already parting her blacker than black cloak, pulling the Fists of Iron on over both her knuckles and then firmly tightening her fists to prepare for what might be a coming onslaught, or might just be a curious sea creature that might not even mean any harm.

Yeah, right.

[attr="class","prism-onebody"]The light pat on the head and a warm smile is a welcome gesture compared to the subtle glares she's getting from the other woman. Though Yuzuki has the hardest time attempting to fish a name from the depths of her memory, she more or less associates the pink-haired jounin with the unfortunate case of 'down-bad' for Minami Sora .

Good thing that her ignorance of boundaries also allows her to get up close to the Hyuuga lady and break the ice. Or at least, attempt to break it. Whatever it is the conversation is about, she sees the quick dismissal of the topic. Perhaps, because of how high-stress this situation seems to be.

What was once the slow and gradual shifting of a creature against the sea floor now begins to pick up in speed as it ascends from the depths. She notices it just as the Konoha-nin does, her grip on her fishing rod tightening as she looks at the crew.

"Hard to starboard!" She barks, already gripping the rudders to change the course. Stunned for all but a second, the crew immediately jumps to action adjusting the sails and riggings.

"C'mon... c'mon...." The winds do not favour them in these rowdy waters, a curse muttered under her breath as she continues to keep one hand against the rudder and clumsily weaves her handseals with the other. Then for a moment, she lets go, all to clap her hands and summon a tailwind to bless their passage.

It rushes, pushes against the already howling winds and in its battle, just barely beats the storm out as it fills their sails. But their ship's movement is still relatively slow and they will not get far from the creature.

"Prepare to engage!"

Using this technique one is able to create a vacuum of wind that blows directly behind themselves. This jutsu can be used for several purposes but is mainly used for a burst of speed while running. After three hand seals the user claps their hands together which causes the tail wind to blow.

[Futago Raimaa]

"Not a very close-knit clan I take it" Raimaa would reply, turning from the woman. If a light conversation was enough to distract her from keeping watch, Raimaa worried about what she was going to do if she got hurt or anything that was an actual distraction. Still, no point lingering; she had a cute fish girl with her. Fisher girl. She needed to keep making that mental distinction because of Hakurei's crush....

And then, came the call to action. Fisher Queen corroborated what the Hyuga was saying, and so Raimaa shifted a bit and pulled out a Kunai from one of her many stores. It was a strange thing, more like a giant spiraling senbon than a Kunai, but would do the job if any monster came up to say hello. While recently broaching into more elemental natures, she had yet to collect an amount of jutsus relevant to them, so she just had to stand with weapon in hand, watching where they had pointed out the creature and waiting for it to crest above the water.

Shecould always smash the thing to pieces with her Thunder God's Drums, but that was a waste and inefficient to boot, so she would wear for the optimal moment before going all spray and pray.

Raika moves herself away from the edge of the boat as the beast seems to have noticed the change in the ship's movement, and is now moving much more and causing the sea to become quite rough. The Hyuuga doesn't want to be toppled overboard and have to try and deal with the sea beast alone; there's safety on the boat for now, at least. It's a good thing she did, because the sudden gust of wind hitting the ship from the back is pushing them forwards with a sudden burst of speed, with the rudder turning them away from the sea monster. Her Byakugan catches sight of an incoming attack, so she turns towards the stern of the ship, using her strength to push herself in the right directly just as what seems like a chasing tentacle erupts from the water, looking as though it's going to try and take out the ship's sail. Raika is already in the air when the limb rises from the deep, pulling Raiton chakra to her fists, just enough to make the iron knuckles spark.

"How 'bout some tempura fry?!"

With that one-liner, she meets the approaching tentacle with her fist, putting the strength of her launch and the power of her own fists, and even the weight of the Hung Gar rings into the blow. Granted, she needn't have put quite so much force into it, as most of the work is done by the Raiton element coursing around and through the metal that pierces the slimy and saltwater-slicked skin of the beast, finding purchase thanks to the sharpened spikes. While the Raiton chakra might not normally have had much effect on such a large foe, the extra saltiness of the seawater should have some effect on the beast, and the use of all of that additional strength becomes apparent as she uses some of that energy to launch herself back to the boat off of the tentacle.

Granted, she has to land somewhat poorly, but she's already aware of how she's going to land. There's a crunching noise, but she's already started healing, and after a bit of a struggle, she stands up once again as though she hadn't just momentarily made her knee go in the wrong direction. The pain was mind-blowing and nearly drove her mind white with the heat of it, but she's already back to focusing on the task at hand, gesturing elsewhere.

"Another one, coming from the bow!"

Her legs are still a bit jelly-feeling after the hard landing and the quick healing thanks to one of her most powerful techniques, but she knows that Raimaa and Yuzuki are both capable fighters. While Yuzuki is focused on the ship's safety, she and Raimaa can take turns defending it in a more direct method, perhaps getting the beast to give up on its idea of a meal.

[attr="class","prism-onebody"]The sea is a cruel and stubborn being, not so easily tamed by the whims of humans. Pity the child that would dare to stand up to her is just as equally stubborn and determined to make her yield.

The tentacle that emerges from the waters invites a wild shower of sea spray, the ship rocked furiously by the sudden shift of the ocean. And as the dripping limb is beaten and sent tumbling limply back into the ocean, it creates yet another wave that rises and crashes against the side of the ship.

The crack of Hyuuga bones isn't something she catches over the roar of beast and storm, her attention poured into keeping track of each limb's movement as she jams the rudder in the necessary direction.

"Brace!"

The next one emerging from the bow of the ship forces her to abruptly amend their course yet again. However, the precarious turns of the ship mixed with the slick of seawater across on the deck catches a few of the sailors off-guard.

While some are lucky enough to simply trip and slide a little, there is a poor soul standing far too close to the side of the ship. Right as his body begins to tip over the taffrail, a wire streaks straight through the chaos, coiling around his torso and pulling him into a graceless flop back onto the deck.

"Ground yourselves!" With chakra, rope, or simply keeping one's center of balance down. "Stay away from the edges!"

Dozens of footsteps scratching against the deck, each member of the crew kept on her radar as she unhooks her fishing line from the poor sailor and quickly reels it back in. While the two handle the defense, she just has to keep this ship and crew alive.

Shouldn't be all that hard compared to what she does in the Suiryuu Ryodan, should it?

With the flick of a wrist and tug of a finger the wielder of a chain or wire is able to cause a loop to appear within the weapon. This works equally well for all chain and rope-based weapons, and allows the loop to be made while the chain is attacking, defending, or otherwise in motion. Depending on the user’s skill level and mastery of bukijutsu, these loops can appear seemingly from nowhere and very quickly, and ensnare foes that were not expecting it.

[Futago Raimaa]

Hyuga up first. Not what she would have advised, being the easily distracted radar and all, but she wanted to get in so Raimaa wouldn't get in her way about that. Raiton was also great as a Chakra nature, but then Raimaa was biased like that.

Fisher Queen managed to hook herself a crewman that was about to take a drink, which implied a much greater dexterity with that rod than she had originally taken her for. Was quite impressive to use a rod like that for such things. Raimaa loved creativity and unique applications of things people didn't expect to be weapons.

And then it was Raimaa's turn, as a second tendril burst from the water, maddened at the damage the first had suffered. Raimaa would hold her Spin-nai in one hand for a moment, then change hands and throw it at the beast with unnatural force. A crack of air burst out the back of the projectile as it neared it's target, accelerating it even further. Spinning like a mad-thing from the strong throw and burst of wind, it would drill a fist-sized hole clean through the tentacle, spilling blood and slimy tentacle flesh into the water. That'd probably attract something later, but that was for later.

This technique, like many before, is based around using chakra to enhance the weapon's properties. Like now, a bit of chakra is put into every shuriken before throw. Half-way to the target, chakra is released in a violent burst, launching the projectiles forward with twice as much speed as before. It can surprise opponents preparing to defend against them, and throw them off-guard.

Raika finally shakes some of the pain out of her legs, standing a bit taller now, watching through the use of her Byakugan as the strange screaming kunai punches a hole straight through the tentacle, and she wonders for a moment if that could be replicated in some way. But she can't focus on that for the moment, because the giant tentacles having risen up only to be beaten down seems to have enraged whatever sea beast is under their ship. For now, at least, the sea creature has only been lifting an exploratory tentacle to see if what it was spying on was something it could eat, but it finally appears to have decided that it was not for eating after having lost feeling in one of its graspers and having another one destroyed.

Instead of keeping up its assault, it seems to have decided that the ship was of little interest, and moves away from the ship instead. While this might seem like a good thing, the creature is also a bit panicked, and in its haste to put distance between itself and the ship, they become embroiled in a sea that had been almost placid moments ago. The Hyuuga seems annoyed with the additional work, but she's quick to move along the deck, focusing chakra to the bottom of her feet in order to keep herself from being launched off the ship or slipping out into the sea while also gripping sailors and using her strength to tug them down to a seated position and tying them in with some loose line. While it might not be comfortable, it was more safe than trying to do too much and wind up overboard in the wild waves around them.

After having secured a few of the sailors that had been struggling, she stops and feels for any more motion from the ship, but for now, it seems to have settled. Raika gradually stands, keeping her head still as she searches all around for any further signs of immediate danger, but she sees no giant watching eyes or other beasts in the sea around the ship, and the wild motions seem to have settled temporarily. And only now does her seasickness return, making her face a bit pale and then just a slight green color as she tries to keep herself from thinking too much about it.

"Hopefully, no more of that..."

At the very least, she gets to work at loosening the bindings she'd put on the sailors that they were on this expedition with. There was no reason for them to be locked in place for any longer.

[attr="class","prism-onebody"]The defense is impeccable, not a single soul lost to a hungering beast that lurks below. As blood splatters down the side of the ship and into the waters, Yuzuki continues to steer the ship to the best of her ability, her lips drawing thin as most of the crew is forcefully seated by the Hyuuga lady. Thankfully, there are some that are steadfast in their duties, sticking to the deck with Tree-walking and aiding her in altering the ship's course such that it doesn't get battered and overturned by the rampant waves.

Though there is no doubt that predators will be attracted by the scent, she assumes that the battle against an injured giant squid will at least give them some time to escape. It is only when she fails to sense any imminent danger that she dares to relax, heaving a great sigh of relief as she slumps over her station.

"I think we're good for now." Nothing dangerous approaching, even if there are plenty of things she would consider dangerous lurking way within her range of perception. Straightening her posture, she looks up and gives the crew closest to her a brief lookover. "Tend to injuries - Cuts, sprains, whatever. We need everyone to be at their best."

There really shouldn't be much considering how quickly the other two dispatched the threat.

[Futago Raimaa]

Well, that was over quickly, and now she was bored again. The icicle that was the Hyuga was not going to be any conversational partner at all, and there was nothing left for her to fight. There was meant to be a shark with nine rows of teeth jumping out and talking about dough. Shanties lied to her. She wondered what else lied to her, but that was just a dry place to go and nobody wanted to be dry. Being dry in the linguistic sense was dull and boring. 

So she did all that was left to do on the ship right now and walked over to Funato, giving her a gentle pat on the head.
"You did well catching that guy. I love creative uses of things" Raimaa would exclaim, giving her a beaming smile.

And then there was nothing left to do. Just watch the medics do what they were trained for - Raimaa would just get in the way there, not having a lot of medical capability - and be on guard for anything that might come out later. On a ship was never her best moment, she couldn't engage the enemy or be proactive or anything. Just, watch.

For now, at least, it seemed that the danger of the sea beast was over and done with, although she could sense some remaining unease among the crew. And if she could feel it, it was likely that the other two could also feel the shift in the mood. She'd heard that sailors were a superstitious bunch, although the Land of Fire didn't have much of a need in daily life for sailing vessels, so most of what Raika knows about sailors are what she's picked up on from others. In this case, the stories about their superstition seemed to be true. Raika's Byakugan eyes scan the sea again, but it seems as though the giant squid had been doing an adequate job of scaring away most other dangers. Or perhaps eating those same dangers. She deactivates her Byakugan for the moment and rubs at her temples, which had begun to pulse with the beginnings of a headache. She must have been getting a bit rusty, or perhaps just stressed; the last time she'd been away from Hibana for this long had been when she was doing the Chuunin Exams, and that had been a short marathon of constant effort which had distracted her.

If Raimaa thought her apparent ignoring of Raika would strike a nerve, she'd be sorely mistaken; Raika had been ignored most of her life, and when she had not been ignored, it had usually not been for the better. She would have also praised Yuzuki for saving that crewmate's life and for skillfully steering the ship to keep them all safe, but the girl was from Kirigakure, and was therefore an enemy outside of the confines of the mission. And besides, she'd been taught as a young girl that too much praise was both unnecessary and potentially harmful to one's growth. So instead of heaping praise onto the brunette, she gives a curt nod and then returns to the bow of the ship.

A quick activation of her Byakugan and focusing her attention directly forwards does give her an unmistakable view of something ahead of them by a good distance further than normal eyes would be able to see it, and she raises her hand to bring attention forwards, all fingers together to point directly ahead of them.

"Land ho!"

This was odd, though. They were still supposed to be some distance from the edge of the crater, so what could this land mass be?

For a moment, there is uncertainty in how to take the compliment, but that rush of endorphins induced by the gentle headpat almost immediately dismantles her guard.

"Wasn't much. You guys did most of the work." A nod back to the Hyuuga and a cheery smile that attempts to mimic a sorely missed spot of sun in this horrible situation. "All we need to do now is -"

Land, one that seems to be shifting ever so slightly. Or rather, the remains of unfortunate vessels that had made an attempt to travel this exact path they did and catching and piling onto one another.

Jolting up, Yuzuki rushes for the side of the boat, glancing at the waters and looking up in the direction of said island.

"That's ain't land. That's shipwreck cove right there. And the currents are drawing us right on a collision course." Her lips draw thin, quick steps to the sides to begin altering the riggings once more. "We'll alter the course to avoid crashing. But there are bodies in that mess."

Not quite moving as they are woven between the gaps of the wreckage, some even a little twisted with limbs bending at rather awkward angles. Whether they are dead or alive isn't something she can determine with all the 'island's shaking.

"Should we attempt to retrieve them?"

"I'll go look over the people, check if there are any survivors" Raimaa would state. Not telling them what she was going to do to the survivors. They had neither the space nor the spare resources to look after nearly dead people, so it would be best just to kill them off here and ease the suffering of slowly freezing to death with broken legs.

Leaping off the side of the boat, Raimaa would then kick off the air to make sure she got enough distance to land squarely on the boat, and begin her morose journey through the land of the soon to be dead.

DESCRIPTION:

With the chakra-focusing technique of Water Walking, and the minute hovering of Wind Walk, one can mesh the concepts together to allow them to thread chakra through there feet and create a momentary platform to stand on. While it is flashy and impresses the locals, it is not actually true flight as the platform only lasts a second or two, so you have to be careful how high you fall with it. The platform you make under your feet is no less gentle for having fallen sixty foot than the ground would be.

Trying to fly with it is not advised when there are enemies about, as precision chakra threading is not a simple task, and getting knocked off balance by enemy projectiles would also disrupt your aireal gait, which risks a hard greeting with the ground if you can't immediately recover your stance.
