A night spent camping on a high-altitude mountainside would likely be more strenuous for some genin than others, but every effort had been made to ensure that every one of the participants had the opportunity to get a decent nights’ rest. As dawn broke, a hearty breakfast was served: steamed rice, miso soup, boiled vegetables and natto and grilled fish; savory grilled pork and fried eggs, enough carbs and fat and protein to keep a young shinobi fueled and fighting for hours.
Spectators began arriving and filing into their seats in the makeshift Thunderdome; those who were unable to make the trek up the mountain would still be able to watch the broadcasts in the village below, but any and all who could preferred to watch the day’s spectacle in person. Guards and proctors alike were stationed around the arena and at various points in the stands, but the best seats in the house were reserved for the attending Daimyo, village leaders, and their various entourages: an isolated platform for the Lords and Ladies of nations across the world to witness the accomplishments of their burgeoning youth.
The genin participating, after all their preparations had been made, would be shepherded into the center of the large amphitheater into neat rows. The fighting grounds were 75 meters long and 50 meters wide, more than enough space for various kinds of ninjutsu and flying projectiles. The acoustics of the pop-up Thunderdome were almost as perfect as the original: directed by Yanki architects and forged by Yamamoto doton specialists, the hollow interior of the structure allowed the murmurs of the crowd to echo and bounce about the arena. As Kizumi once more stepped forward to address all gathered, she had no need for a microphone: all she had to do was raise her voice, and it carried perfectly throughout the Thunderdome.
"Each of you put forth your best effort yesterday,” she said, clasping her hands behind her back. "You went up against riddles, poisons, mazes; exploding puppets, countless clones, cat-and-mouse chases; all in an effort to lay claim to eleven precious scrolls. You defended those scrolls through a brutal vertical race through the mountains, navigating around the various traps and obstacles that lay in your path to finally make your way here: to the Thunderdome, where you can now further prove your skill and qualification for the rank of Chuunin in combat.”
A lone cherry-red eye scraped over the faces of the assembled genin, taking in their expressions. "There will be two rounds of fights,” she said. "One-on-one, and two-on-two. Those of you who managed to make it to this arena with a scroll in hand have been afforded a choice of a benefit to carry with you into this round. Each fight will be no longer than thirty minutes. If there is no clear victor by the end of the time limit, the proctors will declare one based on your performance throughout the fight.”
A wide smile bloomed on her face, and she offered a short bow to those assembled: a gesture of respect and appreciation for their time, their effort, their blood and sweat and tears. "All that’s left to do now is fight,” she said. "And for gods’ sakes, have fun with it. Let the battles begin!”
The genin would be ushered into their own spectator area all together, and each pair of fighters would be called up one by one: no one would know who they were fighting until their names were called and they were brought down into the arena proper.
RULES & GUIDELINES:
01. I will start each of the fight threads. The actual fight will not begin until the first participant posts in their designated thread. At that point, each participant will have a total of 72 hours to reply before they are automatically skipped.
02. Each fight has an IC maximum time limit of half an hour. OOC this equates to just under three weeks. The first round of fights will automatically end and winners will be declared on Saturday March 2rd.
03. Lethal force against fellow participants is strongly discouraged. If lives are endangered, proctors will intervene to ensure highest possible chance of survival for all parties involved.
04. Summons and familiars are allowed.
05. Purposefully attacking anyone outside of the designated fighting arena will result in immediate disqualification.
06. Exiting the arena is considered forfeiture of a fight, and will be considered as a loss.
07. Please try to keep your posts limited to no more than an action, a reaction, and a movement, and refrain from the overuse of caveats and what-if scenarios.
08. Remember that while this is technically a competition, OOC collaboration is key. If conflicting actions require resolutions, please communicate with each other to resolve it in your designated CE Discord channel or speak to me directly in the CHAT WITH TACT category. Battle-modding will be provided if necessary.
