However, it wasn’t much; that was precisely why Shō was required to investigate. With a simple nod of acknowledgment, he left the office in a hurry.

When Ikana was brought forth to do this mission, it wasn't the first high ranked assignment she'd been assigned to. Though it was the first of this nature. Hearing of the bombings, she figured it could have been for any number of reasons. Extremist terrorism. Dissent. Perhaps a series of accidents. Whatever the case, as Ikana came to the office, taking step by step, the youthful Kunoichi was silent, before coming across him. A special jounin. More specifically, the elder brother of one of her students. Gure Sho. Upon entry, she bows politely. "Konichiwa."

Ikana was a ninja that some might say was in "popular demand". In the sense that she was a girl that was skilled at nearly everything she dedicated her mind to. With a vast myriad of Jutsu, and a growing experience that made her more valuable in these times. What more, she'd always put the mission first. Advanced to make her goals a reality. Frankly. She didn't know what to think of how her life had been in recent times. Things felt stagnant, not in the sense that she wasn't advancing in terms of power and skill. No. If anything, that was almost frightening now. Instead, what bothered her was her own isolation. It was easy to smile and nod her head, be polite.

Though Ikana could never say she was truly happy. Not after everything she'd been through. Not after the life she'd lived. Nor the life she envisioned in her future.

"We should investigate the site of the bombings. Sho-San. As well as determine their source and kind."

As Sho prepared for the mission ahead, he felt a sense of relief wash over him. It seemed that he wouldn't need to expend energy searching for a suitable partner; the organisation had already made the decision for him. His assigned companion was none other than Ikana, the kunoichi whom he had first encountered in a rather unconventional manner.

As Ikana greeted him with a polite bow, Shō returned the gesture with equal respect, his mind momentarily drifting back to their first encounter. Back then, she was his sister's private tutor, a fact that initially sparked his concern as a protective older brother. Worried about his sister's well-being, Shō had ventured out to meet this kunoichi entrusted with her education.

Yet, from the moment they crossed paths, he felt nothing but amazement. Ikana's expertise and dedication surpassed his initial expectations, leaving him impressed by her skill and demeanour. It only took a short spar for Shō to recognise her exceptional talent, a recognition echoed by her rapid ascent through the ranks to become a chuunin.

Coincidentally, they were put together as a team during the harrowing Mizukage's Red Keep campaign, a mission fraught with danger and uncertainty. Though they emerged victorious, the memories of the perilous battles was something he didn’t want to be reminded of, for they almost died during the mission.

With a nod of acknowledgment, Shō and Ikana bypassed the need for formalities. Having known each other before allowing them to skip pass the pointless and lengthy introduction. "Yes, that's exactly what I have in mind too." Shō replied, his tone firm and decisive. "Let's meet up in the port and depart with the trader when you're ready."

Shō suggested sea travel due to it being the most expedient option, he highlighted the significant time savings compared to travelling on foot. It wasn't some tiny improvement on efficiency, but it was about three to five times faster than the alternatives.

If he thought of her ascent as rapid, she saw it as little more than a snail's pace. For she had once upon a time stood to be Kirigakure's greatest asset, and now, she had lived a life of what she assumed was mediocrity. A sense of general uselessness despite the power she held to do incredible things. Her life's value was dependent on her work and the ability to complete it. Nor did she think the things she did held any major difference; at least, as far as she knew. Training others? How much difference did she make in people's lives really? People didn't know her. The real her.

Because she didn't know herself. Or denied it. When he suggested moving by ship, she would move with him with a simple nod of her head. "Hai. Since you're the higher rank. I'll have you take lead on this operation. Sho-San." Just like that? Before long? They were off along the boat, and she found herself mostly idling. Thinking of financial reports, or vaguely of her trainings and progress. However, she mostly stood alone and looked out towards the passing sea. Her eyes seemed to be a bit more glass like. Empty as she found herself never realizing. Never realizing she'd never bonded heavily or strongly interacted with Sho since their mission or his assessment.
