world timeline
To prevent any conflicts from occurring between two characters' histories we have created a timeline which you may (and should) reference when creating your character. Within the timeline will be any and all events that affected the world in general such as two or more nations going to war. Furthermore, we have created additional timelines to reflect on more village-specific events. These specific events could be the death of prominent members of the village or any policies that changed that would affect other characters.
If you would like to add a global event then please contact me or any other admins we have at the time. As for village-wide events please contact the Village's leader, discuss it with them, and then the Kage/Lord will forward it to me or one of the other admins. Please keep in mind to have a specific date in mind for your event so that we can keep the timeline orderly. Additionally, if there is currently no kage or lord for that village then you would instead consult me or one of the other admins.
For this timeline, we have decided to implement a rather simple system for how to measure the years. Event dates will be marked with either -SD or +SD. This is to signify before or after the start of the roleplay. We may or may not change this system later, but for now, this should be easy for everyone to understand and remember.
Note: Since 2022 we have been moving away from the SD system and implementing the new Year system. It is the same system as in the real world, but instead of 2 [example: 2001] we use 1 [example: 1001].
2014 ooc = 1014 (0 SD) 2015 ooc = 1015 (+1 SD) 2016 ooc = 1016 (+2 SD) 2017 ooc = 1017 (+3 SD) 2018 ooc = 1018 (+4 SD) 2019 ooc = 1019 (+5 SD) 2020 ooc = 1020 (+6 SD) 2021 ooc = 1021 (+7 SD) 2022 ooc = 1022 (+8 SD) 2023 ooc = 1023 (+9 SD) 2024 ooc = 1024 (+10 SD)
world history Year 0 (- 1014 SD) | Start of the Warring Clans Period
Year 888 (- 126 SD) | Konohagakure no Sato Founded
Year 894 (- 120 SD) | Kirigakure no Sato Founded Witnessing the success of Hi no Kuni's [Fire Country's] shinobi village, the Daimyo of Mizu no Kuni [Water Country] quickly decided that he would need a shinobi as well; not only for the continued protection of his borders, but to also aid in maintaining a monopoly on sea trade between the multiple of continents situated around Mizu no Kuni.
To this effect, the Daimyo contacted the seven dominant tribes, who each inhabited one of the isles that made up Mizu no Kuni, and requested they join his forces. To this end, the seven tribe leaders were brought to a summit where after several days they each signed a contract and donated a sword of immense power to the newly made village in a show of loyalty.
The first Mizukage was elected by three candidates, Kaguya Minato, Hozuki Satoshi, and Yuki Katsumi. Hozuki Satoshi became the ruling Mizukage and during his first decade the village was built and the first generation of shinobi entered the academy.
Year 901 (- 113 SD) | Kumogakure no Sato Founded
Year 927 (- 87 SD) | Iwagakure no Sato Founded
Year 929 (- 85 SD) | Sunagakure no Sato Founded The last of the five great shinobi villages to form, while Kaze no Kuni [Wind Country] has the natural defensive barrier made by its majority of desert, due to the sheer amount of land they control the Daimyo decided they required their shinobi forces to help keep the country stabilized and their gold mines defended.
Year 931 (- 83 SD) | First Kage Summit After the formation of a fifth major Hidden Village, the Kage's decided to all meet in person for the first time in history, to discuss how the formation of Sunagakure would affect the world. Not only that, they decided it would be the perfect forum for the Village leaders to make requests of one another, and settle small disputes which had developed over the years. Thus the first Kage Summit commenced. It did not go as smoothly as some would have hoped, with Konohakagure and Iwagakure locking horns over a territorial dispute. The tension that was born here would eventually lead to the First Great Shinobi War.
Year 934 (- 80 SD) | Amegakure no Sato Founded In response to the forming of the five major shinobi villages, Arashi no Kuni [Storm Country] decided to capitalize on their immense wealth from their natural resources and funded the creation of their shinobi village. While it was not initially as grand as the great five (hence the label as a minor village) it was the first of the minor villages to be founded.
Year 936 (- 78 SD) | Kusagakure no Sato Founded
Year 937 (- 77 SD) | Yugakure no Sato Founded
Year 939 (- 75 SD) | Yukigakure no Sato Founded To protect the vast amount of mineral resources, as well as protect the life-preserving food shipments into the country the Snow Daimyo funded the building of Yukigakure to train a standing shinobi force.
Year 940 (- 74 SD) | Takigakure no Sato Founded
Year 941 (- 73 SD) | Hoshigakure no Sato Founded
Year 942 (- 72 SD) | First Shinobi War Commences The first war started between Konohagakure and Iwagakure, turning Kusagakure into a battlefield. Other shinobi villages are dragged into the war within the next four months with many of them trying to take advantage of the distracted Konoha and Iwa. (Suna + Kusa + Yuki + Konoha vs. Kiri + Taki + Hoshi + Yu vs. Ame + Iwa + Kumo.)
Year 946 (- 68 SD) | First Shinobi War Ends The war ends in essentially a stalemate, as nearly every village's leaders were killed either in battle or from natural causes which subsequently crippled all the village's morale. Among the deceased is the Mizukage, who is replaced by Kaguya Kaito after a brief period of rebuilding in Kirigakure. Kaguya Kaito would form the renowned Hunter-nin corps during his reign as well as shift the Kirigaure's ideals and Kirigakure would grow more isolated.
Year 948 (- 66 SD) | Uzushiogakure no Sato Founded
Year 950 (- 64 SD) | Getsugakure no Sato Founded
Year 955 (- 59 SD) | Otogakure no Sato Founded
Year 955 (- 59 SD) | Ishigakure no Sato Founded
Year 957 (- 57 SD) | Shimogakure no Sato Founded
Year 958 (- 56 SD) | Tanigakure no Sato Founded
Year 971 (- 43 SD) | Second Shinobi War Begins War is started when Konoha shinobi are spotted attacking a prominent clan within Iwagakure. While many witnesses confirm this siting no evidence was found to truly link Konoha to the attack. This causes Iwa to accuse Konoha and Konoha denied the charges. (Suna + Konoha + Hoshi + Shimo + Ishi vs. Kumo + Iwa + Ame + Kusa + Oto + Taki + Yuki) Kirigakure largely sits out this war, but profits by secretly reinforcing two fronts of the war, one for each of the alliances.
Year 976 (- 38 SD) | Second Shinobi War Ends The war is ended when the Lord of Yugakure is killed, the village having sat out the entirety of the war. The Lord of Yugakure had been considered a friend by many people on both sides of the war. In respect of his death, a Non-Aggresion Pact is signed by all involved in the war promising to end the fighting.
Year 977 (- 37 SD) | Third Shinobi War Begins Not a year after a Non-Aggression Pact ends the second war, Sunagakure dispatches several assassins to target some of their former enemies from the last war. The leaders of Iwa, Kumo, Ame, Kusa, and Ishi are all targeted. Some of these succeed, but others fail. In response to this, the fragile peace that had been made months before was shattered and war resumed.
Year 990 (- 24 SD) | Third Shinobi War Ends The war ends with all villages heavily crippled from over a decade of fighting. Suna's Kazekage is executed for his crimes. Iwagakure wishes to hold Kaze no Kuni but lacks the resources to do so after the war. Control reverts to a heavily weakened Sunagakure. The Mizukage dies in his sleep after suffering from a terminal illness. Yuki Nobuhiro succeeds Kaguya Kaito as the Mizukage.
Year 992 (- 22 SD) | Yumegakure no Sato Founded
Year 1001 (- 13 SD) | The Ame-Suna Border Conflict Ame feels threatened when Suna runs a pipeline to a large river within the Storm Country's borders. Over two months, a small-scale war breaks out between the two countries with Suna eventually abandoning the pipeline.
Year 1002 (- 12 SD) | The Kumo-Shimo Conflict Just under two months after the Ame-Suna Border Conflict, Kumogakure begins a conflict with Shimogakure after the Raikage, Mageruhi Hazuna, kills several Shimo civilians within Kumogakure for no apparent reason. The conflict rages for three months before the Raikage dies under unexplained circumstances and hostilities end after that.
Year 1011-1013 (-3 SD ~ -1 SD) | The Kirigakure Civil War Upon hearing the news of the Mizukage's assassination, Kirigakure responded not with surrender, but with extreme force. Rivers ran red with blood on a near-constant basis, as the Land of Water turned into a massive battlefield between the Daimyo's forces and the Kirigakure loyalists. Many people from both sides of the conflict made their names in these years, as battle after bloody battle was waged, with neither side making any breakthroughs. Due to the constant state of war, the village spent most of it without an official leader, as they were unable to hold an official vote to crown the next Mizukage. Many members of their forces began to stand out among the rest, becoming field commanders more through necessity than any sort of promotion. At the end of the Civil War, Yuki Nanami is crowned Mizukage.
Year 1015 (+1 SD) | The Great Plague Kumogakure is placed under quarantine as the entire region of Kaminari no Kuni is swept through by a highly infectious, highly dangerous disease. For quite a while, medical science is baffled, even as the then-current Raikage, Kyuten Aoi, is stricken with illness. Konohagakure and other allied nations sent their support and medical shinobi to assist in reducing widespread effects. Shortly after the death of Kyuton Aoi, (and the deaths of a third of the population), a remedy is found, halting the progress of the disease. Kyuten Aoi is succeeded by Ryujin Imojin and the village is still quarantined.
A study of the disease and current political standings cast suspicions on their enemies to the West, taking caution towards Iwagakure and Takigakure.
Year 1016 (+2 SD) | The Iwagakure Civil War After years of civil unrest, Iwagakure all but exploded with fury led by one Tantetsu Toshu against the then-current Nohime regime. Drawing in alliances from everywhere from Ame to Taki, the civil war ended in the favour of the rebels, Tantetsu Toshu acted as Tsuchikage for some time before one Yutakako Takara was elected Tsuchikage.
Year 1017 (+3 SD) | Kumogakure's Quarantine is lifted During year +3 SD Jokyu Chihiro held the position of interim Raikage, the quarantine on Kumogakure was eventually lifted and the village was deemed cured and safe. It would also mark the return of Kyuumu Riku, who was elected Raikage and would relieve Chihiro of her duties as well as reopening Kumogakure freely to trade and partner with its allies and traveling consumers.
Year 1018+ (+4 SD) | A Time Of Peace Peace has reigned for some time now and the villages are rebuilding and forging alliances. Amongst the recovering nations is Iwagakure which has a significant increase in its resources and the life quality of its inhabitants. Kirigakure is rebuilding after a change in council members, the current Mizukage, Kurokawa Shio, would be relieved of his duties as Mizukage and Ishikawa Shin of the Yuki clan would succeed him as the Rokudaime. Sunagakure defeated rebellious groups in the west and reached a stable condition after their defeat in the Third War. Yukigakure is increasing its military power and resources as well as its alliances.
